Hyundai opens new battery and electrification research centre at IIT Delhi
Hyundai Motor Group today announced the opening of the Hyundai Center of Excellence for future mobility technology (Hyundai CoE) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. This initiative is establishing a joint research system to advance future mobility technologies focussed on electrification and battery systems.Hyundai has selected nine joint research projects in collaboration with IITs as part of its long-term academic-industrial cooperation framework. These projects cover key focus areas, including battery cells, systems and testing; battery management system; energy density enhancement; safety; durability and diagnostic technologies.advertisementThe Steering Committee of the Hyundai CoE will be co-chaired by Executive Vice President Chang Hwan Kim and IIT Delhi Professor Bijaya Ketan Panigrahi.

Unlike the general operation methods of academic-industrial projects, the program allows university faculty members to propose their own research topics, which are then reviewed and selected by Hyundai.advertisementPreviously limited to domestic universities and Korean professors at overseas institutions, the program has been expanded to include foreign faculties, beginning with professors at IITs.Starting with IIT Delhi, the Hyundai CoE will expand in phases to build an India-wide network of experts, connecting leading researchers and institutions across the country.Currently, Hyundai collaborates with three IITs (IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IIT Madras), engaging around 30 professors. Doloo tea workers protest over dues, poor working conditions
Silchar: Around 2,000 tea garden workers held simultaneous protest rallies at two locations in Cachar's Doloo Tea Estate on Saturday, demanding settlement of long-pending dues and improvement of working and living conditions. The protest, organised by Akhil Bharatiya Chah Mazdoor Sangha, took place at Doloo division's playground and the community hall in the Moynagarh division. Workers — both regular and non-regular — voiced anger over alleged neglect by the Kolkata-based Doloo Tea Company (India) Ltd, which owns the estate, union sources said on Sunday. The estate employs around 1,900 regular and non-regular staff, but the total workforce, including contract and unregistered labourers, is estimated to exceed 6,000. Slogans rend the air as agitated workers marched to the estate office, where they submitted a memorandum listing a series of long-standing grievances. Faced with growing tension, the general manager of the estate appeared before the protestors, received their demands and assured the crowd that steps would be taken to address their issues. The rally concluded after the assurance and workers resumed their duties. A meeting followed between management, union leaders, and the garden panchayat to find solutions. Among the key demands were: clearing jungle overgrowth across all sections of the estate to enable work, immediate repair of dilapidated workers' quarters, uninterrupted supply of medicines at the garden hospital, ending the practice of making sick workers report to the hospital twice daily for photos, repair of internal roads in all divisions, payment of outstanding gratuity to retired or eligible workers, provision of employment for casual workers and replanting tea bushes in vacant areas to boost productivity.

With an estimated cost of over $600 billion, the project will move forward through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
