DGCA Orders Air India To Carry Out More Checks On Boeing 787 Fleet After Tragic Plane Crash
New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Friday ordered enhanced safety inspection of Air India's Boeing 787-8/9 fleet, following the devastating crash of the Tata Group airline's London-bound flight, within seconds of take-off from the Ahmedabad airport, in which 241 people were killed on Thursday.
As a preventive measure, the DGCA has directed Air India to carry out additional maintenance actions on 8787-8/9 aircraft equipped with Genx engines with immediate effect in coordination with the regional offices concerned of the DGCA.
These include a one-time check before departure of flight from India with effect from June 15 onwards, inspection of fuel parameter monitoring and associated system checks, as well as inspection of cabin air compressor and associated systems.
Air India also has to carry out an electronic engine control system test, an engine fuel-driven actuator-operational test, and an oil system check. Besides, the airline has to carry out a serviceability check of the aircraft hydraulic system, review of take-off parameters, and introduce 'Flight Control Inspection' in transit inspection till further notice.
Air India also has to undertake power assurance checks within two weeks and closure of maintenance action based upon the review of repetitive snags during the last 15 days on 8787-8/9 aircraft at the earliest. The report of these above checks has to be submitted to the DGCA for review, the order further states.
The black box of Air India's ill-fated Flight AI171 has been recovered, and investigations have begun to find out the cause of the crash. Meanwhile, experienced pilots are of the view that it could have been a twin-engine failure of the Boeing Dreamliner, which could be due to a bird hit or contaminated fuel or blockage of fuel or a combination of these factors. Indian investigators will be joined by experts from the US and UK in the coming days to carry out the probe.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was flown by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, who had over 8,000 hours of flying and his co-pilot Clive Kunder, who had over 1,000 hours of experience. Immediately after take-off, the pilots gave a Mayday call, after which there was no communication from the pilots, and the plane came crashing to the ground, hitting a medical college building as it went up in flames.

'I got to know that an agency from Turkiye used to take care of the maintenance and service of the aircraft. India will have to keep a close eye on the aviation sector,' Ramdev told ANI news agency. 'There is a possibility of a conspiracy by that agency.' Without providing any evidence for his claims, Ramdev said that India must stop allowing foreign companies to interfere in such sensitive matters. Celebi provided ground-based services at nine airports across India – Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Kannur, Chennai, and the MOPA airport in Goa. Its services include passenger handling, baggage processing, aircraft loading, cargo management, and ramp services. The company also runs one of Delhi airport's two cargo terminals as a joint venture with the airport operator.

Gurgaon man loses Rs 35k in Hibox stock trading app scam
Gurgaon: A city resident fell victim to the Hibox stock trading app scam that defrauded nearly 40,000 investors of Rs 500 crore last year. Mukul, a 21-year-old from Dhani Kumbha, Pataudi, invested Rs 35,696 from June 28, 2023, to August 2, 2023, after being promised double returns. While initial withdrawals were processed, the app later restricted access to both investments and profits on Aug 2 last year. The app, which promised guaranteed returns of 1-5% daily, amounting to 30 to 90 per cent returns monthly, withheld funds citing technical issues. Mukul, an accountant at a private company in Mumbai, said he sought to secure substantial investments and profits for a promising future. "I got to know about this app through a friend who assured me of exorbitant profits. Initially, I invested Rs 300 and earned a profit on the same day. By making small investments, I also withdrew profits of up to Rs 3,000. I reinvested this money in the app. When I invested Rs 35,696 after gaining some confidence in Aug last year, the app restricted my withdrawals," he said, adding that he also repeatedly contacted a helpline number provided on the app. "On some occasion they said there was a technical glitch, on other server issue. Following this, I lodged a complaint on the cyber portal," he said. "My friend who told me about the app also lost around Rs 1 lakh." Explaining the app's modus operandi, Mukul said that there were levels of investments. "Initially, people could only invest amounts up to Rs 5,000. As they started investing more frequently, they were able to unlock higher levels of investment which had assurances of higher returns. People also benefited by referring the app to others," he said. An unidentified individual was booked in connection with the case on Thursday by cyber police, Manesar, under Section 318(4) (cheating) of BNS and an official stated that further investigation into the fraud was ongoing by Gurgaon cyber police. Meanwhile, a 30-year-old Chennai resident, Sivaram, the main accused in the investment scam, was arrested by Delhi police last year and Rs 18 crore were seized from his bank account. Multiple influencers including Youtuber Elvish Yadav and comedian Bharti Singh were also summoned by Delhi police last year after over 600 complaints were received against them for promoting the app. According to the complaints, influencers including Saurav Joshi, Abhishek Malhan, Purav Jha, Elvish Yadav, Bharti Singh, Harsh Limbachiya, Lakshay Choudhary, Adarsh Singh, Amit, and Dilraj Singh Rawat promoted the app and lured people into investing through Hibox. Air India steps up support for crash victims' families with financial aid, on-ground assistance
New Delhi: Air India on Saturday announced that it will provide an interim compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the families of each person who lost their life in the tragic plane crash of flight AI 171 in Ahmedabad, as well as to the sole survivor. This amount is separate from the Rs 1 crore assistance already committed by Tata Sons. In a video message shared on social media platform X, Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson said that over 200 trained caregivers are now stationed in Ahmedabad, offering round-the-clock support to the victims' families. Each affected family has been assigned a dedicated support person, along with access to counselling and other necessary services. Wilson, who personally visited the crash site and met some of the grieving families, said the airline's senior leadership, including Tata Sons and Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, had already been to the city and that key members of the airline's management team will remain present 'for as long as it takes.' "The process of reuniting the next of kin with their loved ones' remains and personal belongings has begun," he stated. He added that Air India teams are working closely with local authorities and families to manage this delicate and emotional task, including arrangements for repatriation wherever needed. 'This is an emotional process, and we ask that families be given space,' Wilson said. Meanwhile, Air India has also begun conducting precautionary safety checks on its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, as directed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Wilson further said: "As has been confirmed by the authorities, the aircraft's data recorder has been recovered, which will form part of the official investigation, and Air India continues to fully cooperate with these investigations." Acknowledging the efforts of first responders, emergency workers, and the airline's crew, he said, "At this juncture, I also wish to acknowledge the work done by first responders and those from many organisations since the accident, and also to our crew, who continue to operate with professionalism and with safety always as their primary responsibility." In an earlier statement on Saturday, the airline said nine aircraft have already completed the inspections, with the remaining 24 expected to be checked within the regulator's prescribed timeline. These checks, which include engine-related tests and assessments of fuel systems, hydraulics, and cabin compressors, are being carried out as each aircraft returns to India.
