Computer and Electronic Recycling: Donations Urgently Needed for Quebec Charities Français
The Electronic Recycling Association Calls on Quebec Businesses to Help Bridge the Technology Gap
MONTREAL, May 23, 2025 /CNW/ - The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is urging individuals and businesses across Quebec to donate their unused laptops, computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices. Many local charities remain on ERA's waitlist, unable to fully deliver their programs due to a lack of essential technology.
As a Canadian non-profit organization, ERA is committed to reducing electronic waste and increasing digital access by refurbishing donated electronics and distributing them to schools, charities, and community organizations across Canada.
Several Quebec charities are currently in urgent need of technology donations, including:
Fondation Chez Doris – A Montreal-based organization providing shelter and services for vulnerable and homeless women, in need of technology to improve client intake and case management.
YES Employment + Entrepreneurship – Supporting job seekers and aspiring entrepreneurs, YES urgently needs laptops to facilitate career training, resume development, and virtual workshops.
Association de Montréal pour la Déficience Intellectuelle – Dedicated to individuals living with intellectual disabilities, this organization needs computers to support adaptive learning and communication.
Les Amis de Maywood – A low-income seniors' residence in Pointe-Claire seeking desktop computers to improve resident engagement and daily operations.
Corporation d'Éducation Jeunesse – Focused on educational equity, this organization supports youth from underserved backgrounds and requires laptops for tutoring and academic support programs.
"These organizations are doing vital work in their communities, but without access to functioning computers and other technology, they are limited in what they can offer," said Bojan Paduh, Founder and President of the ERA. "Every donation helps close the digital divide and expands their ability to serve those who need it most."

Edmonton, Sunrise mayors up the ante in bet over Stanley Cup rematch
EDMONTON – If history repeats itself, Edmonton's mayor may soon declare an official Florida Panthers Day in Alberta's capital city. Last year's bet between Amarjeet Sohi and Mike Ryan, the mayor of Sunrise, Fla., where the Panthers play, saw salt be rubbed in the wounds of Edmontonians when their own mayor was forced to wear a Panthers jersey during a council meeting. This time around, with the Edmonton Oilers set to take on the Panthers again in the Stanley Cup Final, the municipal pride of both respective cities is being put on the line. The losing team's mayor will read a decree written by the victor in city hall and declare a certain day be set aside to honour the championship winner in the losing city. 'We both had a good laugh about how much fun this could be,' Ryan said in an interview about this year's wager. He joked that 'when the city of Sunrise celebrates the Florida Panthers winning again' he plans to write a declaration that is bearable, but still a little bit embarrassing for Sohi to read. 'Mayor Sohi's a consummate professional and respectful, so I'm confident that if Edmonton was to win, he'll send me something that I won't be too embarrassed to read, too,' Ryan said. Sohi, in a video posted on social media Tuesday, was more than confident he wouldn't be making a declaration any time soon. 'Edmonton is more ready than ever,' he said. 'The Oilers have the passion, the grit, and the talent to bring the cup home to Canada where it rightfully belongs.' Things have changed since the mayors made their bet last year. The Panthers, of course, won their first Stanley Cup in team history — and there was also the re-election of U.S. President Donald Trump. Since taking office again Trump has launched an ever-evolving trade war between the two countries while repeatedly saying Canada would be better off if it became part of the United States. Statistics Canada recently reported that the number of Canadians flying to the U.S. was down by 12.5 per cent compared with 2019, and down nearly six per cent alone compared with April of last year. Experts have said Trump's trade war and thinly veiled threats to Canadian sovereignty at least partially explain the drop, but Ryan said he thinks Canadians will flock to Sunrise to support the Oilers just as they did last year. 'I know we're ready to welcome the Edmonton fans and the Canadian fans,' Ryan said. 'I don't expect any changes.' 'For hockey fans, this is a great distraction for whatever else is going on in the world.' Wildfires force Hudbay Minerals to suspend work at Snow Lake mine in Manitoba
TORONTO - Hudbay Minerals Inc. says wildfires burning in northern Manitoba have forced it to suspend work at its Snow Lake mine. Last week, the Toronto-based company said it planned to maintain output at the gold, copper and zinc mine at reduced levels. But the town of Snow Lake was put under a precautionary early evacuation notice on Tuesday, so Hudbay has decided to temporarily wind down its operations there. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW It says only essential personnel will remain on site to help with emergency activities. The miner says its infrastructure and facilities in the Snow Lake and Flin Flon areas are at low risk of being damaged. It says it still expects to meet its annual targets for Snow Lake, given strong performance there so far this year. 'The safety of our employees, their families, our First Nations partners and the communities we serve remains our top priority. With the wildfires spreading, Hudbay has taken additional actions to support our employees, including $1 million in direct financial support and establishing a Community Relief Donations Fund,' said senior vice-president Rob Carter. 'We are collaborating closely with local communities and municipal and provincial authorities to provide support during this challenging time. We will continue to monitor the situation, ensuring a safe return to full operations as soon as it is advisable.' Hudbay removed non-essential staff in the Flin Flon, Man., area last week. It hasn't been actively mining in the area near the Manitoba-Saskatchewan boundary since 2022, but it still runs care and maintenance work and also has services there to support Snow Lake 200 kilometres to the east.
