Ole Miss Makes Big Football Announcement on Monday
Ole Miss Makes Big Football Announcement on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Ole Miss football program has been completely revitalized over the last five seasons under the leadership of head coach Lane Kiffin. Advertisement Before Kiffin took over, the team endured a four-year postseason drought. However, the team has qualified for five straight bowl games and won three since Kiffin accepted the job before the 2020 college football season. Ole Miss has also become a launching point for many NFL careers, as the Rebels had eight players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. Another 12 signed as undrafted free agents, so 20 total players from last year's team are currently on NFL rosters. Former Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart (left) with head coach Lane Kiffin (right).Matt Bush-Imagn Images On Monday, the program made the big announcement that their 2025 season tickets had sold out. This is the eighth time that season tickets have sold out in the modern era of Rebels football. Advertisement The Rebels will be a completely new-look team in 2025, as three-year starting quarterback Jaxson Dart is now with the New York Giants in the NFL. Sophomore Austin Simmons, who has 282 career passing yards and two touchdowns, is expected to take his place. Star wide receiver Tre Harris and cornerback Trey Amos were both drafted, and the entire starting defensive line from last year's team moved on to the NFL this offseason as well. All eyes will be on Princewill Umanmielen and Suntarine Perkins to wreak havoc for the Rebels' defense. Five-star freshman wide receiver Caleb Cunningham should contribute right away as a pass-catcher. Ole Miss will play a total of eight games at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi this season. They will open up the 2025 campaign at home against Georgia State on August 30, then they will have a four-game home stand from September 13 to October 11. Ole Miss Defender Earns Massive Preseason Honor
Ole Miss Defender Earns Massive Preseason Honor originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Ole Miss football team is going to look a bit different this season after losing nearly 20 players to the NFL and several others to the transfer portal. Advertisement All-SEC players like quarterback Jaxson Dart, cornerback Trey Amos and defensive tackle Walter Nolen will be difficult for the Rebels to replace, but head coach Lane Kiffin brought in another highly touted recruiting class this offseason. Linebacker Suntarine Perkins is one of just two starting defenders from last year's team that will be in the fold once again this season. After a 10.5-sack, 14-tackle-for-loss campaign in 2024, expectations are high for the third-year player. Ole Miss linebacker Suntarine Perkins (4).Petre Thomas-Imagn Images Perkins also recorded 60 total tackles, recovered two fumbles and intercepted one pass during his true sophomore season at Ole Miss last year. The former five-star recruit could even be a first-round pick in 2026. Advertisement On Monday, the Ole Miss football program announced on their social media pages that Perkins had earned a handful of prestigious preseason honors. College football expert Phil Steele placed Perkins on both his preseason All-SEC and All-American teams. Steele had him as a Second-Team All-SEC player and a Fourth-Team All-American. Last season, Steele placed Perkins on his All-American honorable mention team, and Perkins earned Third-Team All-SEC honors from Steele, the SEC coaches and College Football Network. Several other Rebels made these respective lists, as kicker Lucas Carneiro was projected to be First-Team All-SEC and a Third-Team All-American. Advertisement Wide receiver Cayden Lee and tight end Dae'Quan Wright were also predicted to land on the Third-Team All-SEC and linebacker TJ Dottery was slotted in with the Fourth-Team. Sheff Utd set to replace Wilder with Selles
Chris Wilder was given a three-year contract in January but is expected to be sacked by Sheffield United on Wednesday [Getty Images] Sheffield United are expected to confirm the departure of manager Chris Wilder on Wednesday after they failed to secure an immediate return to the Premier League. Former Southampton, Reading and Hull City manager, Ruben Selles, is expected to take over at Bramall Lane after Wilder's departure is confirmed. Advertisement The Blades finished third in the Championship but lost to Sunderland in injury time in the play-off final last month. Wilder, 57, was in his second spell in charge of his boyhood team and had been looking to guide them to promotion for the third time. His imminent exit means that of the three teams who failed to go up through the Championship play-offs, only Coventry City will start next season with the same manager. Wilder initially took over at Bramall Lane in May 2016 and guided them to the League One title in his first season in charge. Promotion to the Premier League followed two years later and they finished ninth in their first season in the top flight. Advertisement However, they struggled badly the following season, and Wilder was sacked in March 2021 with relegation inevitable. He had spells with Middlesbrough and Watford before returning to Bramall Lane in December 2023, after Paul Heckingbottom was sacked with the Blades bottom of the Premier League. Two-point deduction Wilder was unable to arrest the slide, as they ended the season having conceded 101 goals and accumulated just 16 points. They started last season with a two-point deduction because of missed transfer payments in the 2022-23 campaign but challenged at the top of the division throughout. A long-mooted takeover by American-based consortium COH Sports was completed in December, and Wilder signed a new three-year deal in January. Advertisement With seven games to go, they were two points clear at the top of the league. But they then lost three matches in eight days to Oxford United, Millwall and Plymouth Argyle. While another defeat at Burnley - a fourth in five games - condemned them to the play-offs, despite finishing the regular season with 90 points. They cruised into the play-off final with a thumping 6-0 aggregate win over Bristol City and took the lead in the final at Wembley against the Black Cats. A second goal was controversially ruled out by VAR - the only match in the Championship in which the system was used all season - and Sunderland came back to equalise. Advertisement Then down to 10 men temporarily, with a player off injured and all their substitutes used, Tommy Watson score a 95th-minute winner for the Black Cats. It stretched their wretched run in the play-offs to no successes from 10 attempts and leaves them facing up to another season in the second tier.
