This platform was built at a cost of about Rs 20 crore.
The Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Railway station Hubballi is a prominent junction in Karnataka as it serves as a major hub of trade and commerce in the North Karnataka region. It connects railway lines towards Bengaluru (Davanagere side), Hosapete (Gadag side), and Vasco-Da-Gama/Belagavi (Londa side).
This platform is expected to enhance the operational capacity of the yard along with addressing the need to hold and run additional trains in the near future. The long platform is also expected to save precious time of passengers by avoiding the detention of express trains while arriving at the station. Moreover, the long platform can be a help for Railways as it can now operate trains simultaneously in two directions.
The record has been recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records, said IR officials.
The history of Indian Railways is more than 160 years old as the first passenger train in India ran from Mumbai to Thane on April 16, 1853. This marked the beginning of India's extensive railway network, which is now the fourth-largest rail network in the world.

Five Qatar-based Keralites dead in Kenya road accident
Thiruvananthapuram: At least 5 Keralites based in Qatar were killed after their tourist bus met with an accident in Kenya, where they were on holiday, on Monday, according to the chief minister's office. Sajith Sankar of Loka Kerala Sabha, the Kerala govt initiative to tackle issues of non-resident Keralites, told TOI from Kenya that according to details collected by them, Geetha Shoji Isaac, 58, of Thiruvananthapuram; Jasna Makkar Kuttikattuchalil, 29; her 18-month-old daughter Roohie Mehrin Mohammed of Thoyakkavu near Venkitangu, Thrissur; Riya Ann Rodrigues, 41, and her eight-year-old daughter Tyra Rodrigues of Mannur panchayat in Palakkad were killed in the accident. "A group of 28 Indians from Qatar were visiting Kenya, where their bus met with an unfortunate road accident yesterday," the Embassy of India in Doha said on Tuesday. The accident occurred on Ol Jororok-Nakuru Road in Nyandarua County, according to the High Commission of India in Nairobi. The bus reportedly fell into a gorge around 7 pm IST. The CMO said in a statement that Indian nationals injured in the accident, including Keralites, were being shifted to major hospitals in Nairobi. The bodies of the deceased are also expected to be brought to Nairobi. Conveying his condolences to the victims' families, the chief minister said the global contact centre of NORKA Roots, the state-run agency for Non-Resident Keralites, at 1800 425 3939 (toll-free in India) or +91 88020 12345 (missed call service for those abroad) could be contacted for more details. The relatives of Jasna said her husband Muhammed Haneef was injured in the accident. He was admitted to a hospital in Nyandarua County initially and later airlifted to Nairobi for better treatment. Abdul Azeez, the younger brother of Haneef's father, said Haneef was not yet informed about the death of his wife and baby. Haneef is working as a chartered accountant in Qatar while Jasna was employed in a hospital there. He said Haneef's sister and brother-in-law were travelling from Qatar to Nairobi. "Only after they reach there, we would get to know when the bodies of Jasna and Mehrin can be brought here. We are trying to expedite the process through the Indian Embassy," he said. Riya was travelling with her husband Joel and two children when the mishap occurred. "We received the news of the accident on Tuesday morning. The mortal remains are kept at a govt facility in Kenya now, awaiting further formalities," said Hussain Shafeek A, the local ward member. Both Riya and Joel have been working in the travel industry in Qatar for several years.

Coffee table books, gift hampers for Mansarovar pilgrims
: The Kailash Mansarovar Bhawan in Indirapuram is gearing up to welcome the first batch of pilgrims set to arrive on Wednesday. The Mansarovar Yatra is resuming after a five-year hiatus following the Covid-19 pandemic, and the district administration aims to provide a smooth and memorable experience for the devotees. The inaugural batch of 50 devotees from across the country is expected to arrive sometime after noon on Wednesday. A total of 750 pilgrims will arrive in batches of 50 until Aug 25. ADM (city) Vikas Kashyap told TOI that each pilgrim will receive a thoughtful hamper containing a tulsi rudraksh mala, a bag, cap, umbrella, tracksuit, t-shirt, and a memento. "It is an effort from us to make the journey as smooth and memorable as possible," Kashyap said. Additionally, pilgrims will also be presented with a coffee table book featuring literature about Kailash Mansarovar. Each batch of pilgrims will stay at the Bhawan for four days, during which they will undergo document verification, medical examination, and complete other formalities at the Ministry of External Affairs office in Delhi. Buses arranged by Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam and Sikkim Tourism Development Cooperation (STDC), responsible for logistical arrangements on the Indian side, will transport pilgrims to and from the Bhawan. District magistrate Deepak Meena said that fire safety mock drills, electrical safety NOC, and other necessary safety measures have been put in place ahead of arrivals. If we see any symptomatic person, Covid testing will be done. However, unnecessary testing will be avoided," he said.

5 from Kerala killed in Kenya bus accident
Five from Kerala were killed in a road accident in Kenya on Monday, the Indian Embassy in Qatar said Tuesday. A group of 28 Indians, expatriates in Qatar, left on June 6 to visit Kenya. They were touring Kenya when their bus met with an accident in Nyandarua County in Central Kenya. Several others in the bus have sustained injuries. The deceased were identified as Geetha Isaac, 58, a resident of Thiruvalla; Jasna Kuttikkattuchalily (29) of Thrissur and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Ruhi Mehrin; Riya Ann, 41, of Palakkad and her eight-year-old daughter. The Indian embassy in Qatar posted on X: 'A group of 28 Indians from Qatar were visiting Kenya, where their bus met with an unfortunate road accident yesterday. As per available information, five Indian nationals have lost their lives in the accident. Officials from HCI Nairobi are on the ground and extending all help.' Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan conveyed condolences to the families of the victims and assured support, the Chief Minister Office said Tuesday. In its statement, the CMO said Loka Kerala Sabha in Kenya has been working closely with the Indian High Commission and local authorities to help those affected. NORKA ROOTS, the state government entity for expatriates' welfare, is coordinating support efforts through its global contact centre. The CMO also said all the injured persons are being shifted to hospitals in Nairobi. The bodies of the victims will also be taken to Nairobi.
