Tropical system forming close to Mexico, could bring heavy rain
The first tropical system of the season in the eastern Pacific, to be named Alvin when it reaches tropical storm strength, is forecast to form about 300 miles southwest of Mexico on Wednesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The storm is predicted to strengthen through Friday, with a chance for it to reach low-end hurricane strength due in part to above-average water temperatures in the region.

More rain and a few storms tomorrow
The Latest from Storm Team 5… After a quiet start to the weekend, multiple waves of rain and storms moved the area on Sunday, bringing about a quarter to three quarters of an inch of rain and some hail up to 1″ in diameter. Thankfully, tonight, the rain is done for and I am expecting a quiet night with clouds arriving late. Lows in the low to mid 50s. The upper level part of the system will move in tomorrow, bringing scattered rain and a few thunderstorms once again for the morning, lasting through at least the afternoon, before activity begins to taper later in the evening. Plenty of dry hours are expected tomorrow. Additional rain amounts between 0.10″ to 0.25″, isolated higher. Highs tomorrow will be very cool compared to average, in the upper 50s and low to middle 60s! Nicer looking day expected on Tuesday with a mix of sun & clouds with highs back in the 70s. Warmer weather returns Wednesday with mostly sunny skies, high temperature will reach the low to mid 80s. Then, a few days of rain chances move in to the end the week. Photos: Wind and rain shake up otherwise lazy Sunday
PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Wind and rain brought a temporary respite from the blazing sun Sunday. The weather also made for some interesting cloud formations (below). The precipitation temporarily interrupted the North American sand Soccer Championships taking place at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. WAVY meteorologist Don Slater breaks down how it all played out: As expected, an active low pressure system (a mini-cyclone) moved eastward from halfway across the U.S. to get us this morning. We had numerous severe thunderstorm warnings from 5:47am to 9:45am, but damage appears to be limited to trees and power lines down. That damage was mostly in Southampton County, VA. Though we did see tree and power line damage in southern Chesapeake. After some quiet time in the late morning and early afternoon, it was also expected that we could see some severe weather in the afternoon. And though the thunderstorms were more widely scattered, we did get some damage to trees in James City County. As of 9:00 pm, more thunderstorms are approaching from the west…especially for areas from the Peninsula and northward. NWS confirms two tornadoes from Saturdays storm
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — The National Weather Service has confirmed two tornadoes hit the Tri-State during a storm on Saturday. A release from the National Weather Service says the tornadoes touched down in Owensboro Kentucky and in Hatfield Indiana. The Owensboro tornado was rated an EF-0 with peak winds of 85 miles per hour. Officials say the tornado developed along Highway 431 and damaged a billboard. Several stores were also damaged. The tornado traveled 2.14 miles. The Tornado in Hatfield was rated an EF-0 with peak winds of 65 miles per hour. Officials say the tornado made brief contact with the ground and traveled 0.59 miles.
