The KwaZulu-Natal House of Traditional Leaders (KZNHTL) will on Wednesday discuss the arrest of two amakhosi who are facing murder and rape charges, which are not related to each other.
Inkosi Simphiwe Zuma, who is a popular associate and relative of Jacob Zuma, has been charged following the murder of his induna, who is also his relative.
Another, Inkosi Thulabenzwe Dlamini, who is a relative of former African Union Commission chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, is appearing in court for allegedly raping an 18-year-old woman last month.
When contacted about the arrests, KZNHTL secretary Ntshinkala Dumo said the House would comment after its meeting on Wednesday.
'At the moment, there is still consultation, and once the decision is taken, it will be communicated after the meeting that is rescheduled for tomorrow,' said Dumo.

Inkosi has been charged in connection with the murder of the senior induna of his Nxabalala tribal authority in Mpendle, KwaZulu-Natal midlands, Qalokunye Zuma, who was also his relative.
Both Inkosi Zuma and Inkosi Dlamini did not respond to questions sent to them via WhatsApp, and their phones were not answered.
National Prosecuting Authority's KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said Zuma faced charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, and was remanded in custody until Wednesday for a bail application.
Inkosi Zuma faces the charges along with another induna of his clan, who is also an accused in the murder of a Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor in uMngeni Municipality, Nhlalayenza Ndlovu.
Inkosi Zuma was well-known for supporting the former president during court appearances. The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) leaders would normally visit his palace to conduct traditional ceremonies.
Inkosi Zuma's co-accused in the murder of Qalokunye Zuma is Zwelithini Buthelezi, who is also an induna in KwaNxamalala.
Qalokunye Zuma was a senior induna, in charge of all izinduna in the tribal authority, when he was sprayed with bullets and killed in front of his children, wife, and customers who were buying at his tavern at his homestead in Novuka village in January 2023.
Ndlovu was the chief whip at the uMngeni Municipality when he was killed in the same executional style in December 2023.
Qalokunye Zuma was in his bedroom when strangers arrived at his homestead asking to talk to him.
When he approached them, they opened fire, killing him instantly before getting away in a car that was parked nearby.
A few days after the murder, Inkosi Zuma told this reporter that he was shocked by the murder of Qalokunye Zuma, whom he said was his close confidant
'Which is why I promoted him to be my prime minister (chief induna).'
At the time, Inkosi Zuma said he was shocked that a person could be killed in broad daylight and in full view of the people because Impendle was known to be a peaceful rural town.
'Had it been a faction fighting, we would be able to deal with it by talking to warring factions to lay down arms,' said Inkosi Zuma.
On social media, a member of the Zuma family told a journalist that the implication of the Inkosi in the murder was shocking because Inkosi Zuma and Qalokunye Zuma were related.
Buthelezi, who was arrested a month earlier before Inkosi's arrest, made his first appearance on May 30 in Ndlovu's murder, and the case was postponed to July 9.
According to the DA, Buthelezi did not apply for bail.
In the Ndlovu's murder, Buthelezi is charged along with Thobani Hlongwa, who was alleged to be the trigger man, and another suspect whose identity could not be established.
Meanwhile, Inkosi Dlamini of the Bhidla Tribal Authority, will appear at the Ixopo Magistrate's Court on Friday facing rape and kidnapping charges.
'The charge of kidnapping was added because he drove past the area where he was supposed to drop the girl,' said a councillor who attended Inkosi Dlamini's court appearances but who declined to be named for fear of victimisation.
Inkosi Dlamini threw a big party to wish Dlamini-Zuma good luck when she was going to the 2017 ANC national elective conference in Nasrec, Johannesburg, to compete with President Cyril Ramaphosa for the party's presidency position.
It was alleged that Inkosi Dlamini gave an 18-year-old girl a lift on May 3, but instead of dropping her at her destination, he continued driving the car and only stopped at a spot where there were no people and allegedly raped her.
In a statement released shortly after Inkosi Dlamini's arrest and his first appearance at the Hlanganani Magistrate's Court on May 9, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu condemned the alleged sexual assault on the victim.
'This vile act — allegedly committed by someone who holds a position of leadership and authority— is a betrayal of the moral, ethical, and societal responsibilities bestowed upon traditional leaders; it flies in the face of the values we seek to uphold in a just, safe, and respectful society.
'It is clear that this Inkosi premeditated this and executed his plan using his car.
'All along and up to now, when engaging with my counterpart in CoGTA, it has been around the role that traditional leaders need to play on various social ills and around their security concerns, but we have never thought that we now have to engage on their involvement in the act of rape,' said Mchunu in a statement.

Alleged cop killers denied bail as Hawks reveal sinister plot

On 26 June 2025, the Hawks said three alleged cop killers have been denied bail by the Ermelo District Court. 'The trio were remanded in custody for further investigation,' said Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Magonseni Nkosi. Siyabonga Duba (31), Njabulo Zwane (27) and Vusi Shabalala (43) form part of 10 suspects who are facing murder charges. All 10 are accused of murdering the Ermelo Vehicle Investigation Unit commander, Lieutenant Colonel Piet Pretorius. Additionally, they are charged with conspiracy to commit murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They are also charged with defeating the ends of justice. He said on 16 January 2025, the suspects allegedly concealed the murder weapon and set alight a vehicle that had been used in the commission of the crime. 'The first five suspects were arrested in Nelspruit by the Secunda based Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, in less than 12 hours after the incident,' said Nkosi. The rest of the alleged cop killers are Mthobisi Nkosi (40), Aubrey Xaba (35), Skhumbuzo Skhakhane (40), Niko Mujovo (30), Gift Mdluli (34), Valencia Skhosana (36) and Phepheni Duba (37). Of the group, Phepheni Duba was granted R10 000 bail earlier this year, while Valencia Nkosi was denied bail. The rest abandoned their bail applications. 'All ten suspects are expected to appear before the same court, Ermelo District Court, on 14 August 2025,' said Nkosi. The Hawks expressed that they were pleased that the court has decided to keep the accused behind bars for at least another month. The Mpumalanga Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber, said he was satisfied with the investigation's progress. He said the team assigned would ensure that justice prevails in this matter. Diddy verdict looms: Will music mogul face life in prison or walk free?

It has been seven weeks of revealing testimony in the Diddy trial. The federal trial of hip hop royalty, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, will come to a dramatic end this week. The rapper and producer faces charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution, stemming from allegations that he led a criminal enterprise spanning decades. The hip hop legend could do life in prison should he be found guilty. The prosecution presented 34 witnesses and has since rested. The list of witnesses included former partners, sex workers, Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura, and a woman whose identity has been protected and is identified as Jane or Jane Doe. These women testified to being coerced into sexual encounters that were driven by drugs, and that these instances often involved escorts and lavish 'freak-off' parties. Video footage was also introduced along with text messages and financial records to further drive home allegations around abuse, intimidation, and manipulation. The rapper's defence team elected to present no witnesses. Diddy did not take the stand either. His lawyers focused their energies on cross-examination and introduced evidence to illustrate how these encounters were consensual. Diddy told the judge that the choice not to take the stand was solely his decision after intensive deliberation with his counsel. A few of the allegations against the man who unearthed talents like The Notorious B.I.G. and Mary J. Blige have been dropped. These include allegations of attempted kidnapping, attempted arson involving rapper Kid Cudi, and aiding and abetting sex trafficking. The prosecution will set out to cement the portrait they have painted of Diddy as a violent predator. A person who uses his influence and his social cache to take advantage of women. The defence will attempt to convince the jury that Diddy is a victim of opportunistic individuals whose motivation is centred on resentments and fiscal gains. If the Bad Boy Entertainment founder is found guilty, he could face life in prison. More than just his freedom hangs in the balance as a guilty verdict could have detrimental implications for his legacy as a legend in the hip hop industry. Former President Jacob Zuma challenges ANC expulsion in court

MKP president Jacob Zuma has launched a court application to challenge his membership expulsion from the ANC. Image: Independent Media Former President Jacob Zuma's battle to remain an ANC party member has again been thrust into the spotlight after he hauled president Cyril Ramaphosa and his former party to court on Thursday. Zuma, who is the former president of the ANC and now leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) launched a court application in a bid to challenge his expulsion from the party. His decision to take the ANC and its leader to court came after the party's disciplinary committee expelled him in July 2024 for publicly endorsing the MKP ahead of the general elections. He argued that the disciplinary steps that the ANC followed in 2024 were illegal and violated his constitutional rights. In a surprising revelation, Zuma admitted that he wants to remain in the ANC to take it over and "rescue" it from its current leadership. In a podcast, Zuma stated that he wants to stay within the ANC to change it from within, claiming that the current leadership had strayed from the principles of the party's founders. Next Stay Close ✕ "If I was not a member of that organisation [ANC] it would be very difficult to try to change it from the inside. They would ask what I wanted from their organisation when I was not a member…and that would be the end of the debate," Zuma said. Zuma's court application, launched on Thursday, the 70th anniversary of the Freedom Charter, seeks to set aside the ANC's decision to terminate his 65-year-long membership. MKP spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela has labeled the ANC's disciplinary hearing as a "kangaroo court" and accused the party of "betraying the people by entering into a Government of National Unity (GNU) with the DA and Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus)". 'President Zuma is on record saying that his membership of the real ANC of Luthuli, Tambo and Mandela cannot be erased by sell-outs and DA puppets like Ramaphosa and Mbalula (ANC secretary-general). 'It was indeed the sell-out tendencies of these traitors which led to the formation of the MK Party on 16 December 2023 and the removal of the ANC from power 5 months later in the May 2024 elections,' Ndhlela said. Ndhlela further said his party was fully behind Zuma and would hopefully see his dual membership of the MK Party and the real ANC, not the 'sell-out ANC of Ramaphosa', restored. 'Such an outcome will bring us closer to the much-needed unity of black people in the centuries old struggle for total liberation and the return of the land to its rightful owners, the African people as a whole,' Ndhlela said. ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu did not respond to a request for comment, however, Mbalula had previously labelled Zuma's attempts to challenge his dismissal from the party as mischief. 'He (Zuma) is a mischievous, uncouth, ridiculous old man who basically thrives on disunity for his own self-interest,' Mbalula had said, although it was not clear whether the ANC would oppose the court challenge. Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya had also not responded to questions. ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has been taken to court by Jacob Zuma who wants to retain his ANC membership. Image: Kamogelo Moichela Sources within the ANC have expressed skepticism about Zuma's intentions, with some suggesting that he is simply trying to destabilise the party and others saying he would be good for the party ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections. "This man (Zuma) just wants to waste money with lawyers and the courts. This is precisely why he created the MKP, just to destabilise the ANC," a source said. Another source hinted that Zuma's desire to remain in the ANC might be linked to his pension benefits. "There is talk amongst comrades of changing the country's constitution on the remuneration of former presidents to take away Zuma's that would be another reason he wants to continue within the party," the source said.
