Kettlewell among contenders for Kilmarnock job
Stuart Kettlewell is among a number of candidates being spoken to by Kilmarnock about the Scottish Premiership club's managerial vacancy.The Rugby Park outfit have been left hunting for a replacement for Derek McInnes after he opted to join Hearts.And Kettlewell, who quit as Motherwell boss in January citing personal abuse during a run of poor results, is reportedly close, external to being appointed as his successor.However, Kilmarnock chairman Billy Bowie and his fellow directors will hold further interviews before make an appointment.Scotland assistant John Carver and former Kilmarnock forward Steven Naismith have both also been lined with the post.

In appointing a new manager, Kilmarnock clearly want to avoid any of the complications that surrounded the departure of McInnes.That all got a bit tricky with the mounting speculation followed by a defeat at Motherwell and the understandable dismay of some fans. The decision that McInnes wouldn't be in charge for the final match of the season against his prospective new employers was clearly an exercise in damage limitation.Kettlewell is not an unexpected name to be linked with the job. He is available and can point to a strong evidence of work at Motherwell and Ross County.For now, interviews for the vacant post continue, but names of candidates and timeframe are being kept well under wraps.

Jason: Now Dundee have decided to dispense with Tony Docherty's services I'd quite happily see him in the dugout at Rugby Park. He did a good job there and I think he'd be an ideal replacement and it's not too much of a risk. He knows the league and the players in it, so I think it would hopefully be a smooth transition.John: Either Paul Lambert or David Martindale. I think both managers could improve our style of football, giving better entertainment for the fans. Alastair Johnston hopes takeover can start to ‘extinguish rot' from Rangers past
Johnston was ousted from his post as chairman when Scottish businessman Whyte bought Rangers from majority shareholder Sir David Murray in May 2011. The club subsequently lurched into administration in February 2012 and then were consigned to liquidation three months later, before Rangers re-emerged in the bottom tier of Scottish football as a new company with Whyte having departed under a cloud. Johnston predicted then that it would take a decade for the Govan club to recalibrate. Although they lifted the Scottish Premiership title in 2021 and enjoyed success in Europe, Celtic still retain a strong grip on Scottish football with 13 title wins in the last 14 years, amongst a plethora of other silverware. However, Rangers fans and Johnston are looking for better times ahead following the confirmation last week that an American consortium, headed by healthcare tycoon Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises, has acquired a 51 per cent controlling stake in the club. Johnston, who returned to the board as a non-executive director in 2017 when South Africa-based Dave King was chairman, is standing down with a new-look board taking shape but the United States-based Glaswegian and lifelong Gers fan is optimistic about developments. The 76-year-old told the PA news agency: 'I was asked to respond to a question at the Rangers AGM last December as to the options available to the club in order for it to return to its glory days. 'My comments were reported at the time as being somewhat bemusing. 'I responded by describing the current circumstances in English football about so many of the leading clubs being taken over by American investors and, in several cases, their approach included an ownership model that involved multiple teams. Rangers Football Club is pleased to announce that a consortium of investors, led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, has purchased a majority stake in the club, with approval from the Scottish FA. 'It took about six months for the Rangers board to reach a mutually acceptable arrangement that would be in the best interests of our club. Gary Neville has named the four players Manchester United must sell this summer in order for his former club to move forward under Ruben Amorim. The Red Devils have moved quickly to revamp their attack in the weeks following their crushing Europa League final defeat by Tottenham, which consigned them a season without European football and its associated riches. United announced the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5million this week, while Brentford 's Bryan Mbeumo has outlined his desire to join the project at Old Trafford. But, given the financial issues before the club and the failure to claim the estimated £100m windfall from Champions League participation, the club need to recoup considerable sums from player sales. Neville believes that among the host of potential stars on the chopping block, Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho must all leave in this window. The first three stars have all been out on loan for at least the past six months and have enjoyed spells that is sure to attract from clubs. Meanwhile, Garnacho clashed with Amorim after the defeat by Spurs and is set to leave in short order. Despite being an academy product, Neville conceded that when a player publicly clashes with his boss, 'the manager has to win'. But that is not the case for another United starlet, who the 50-year-old reckons the Red Devils should build their team around. 'Marcus Rashford has to leave for him and the club,' he said on the It's Called Soccer podcast. 'I would worry that Aston Villa haven't announced that they're keeping him already because I think that could have been an easy deal to do with United if they were going to keep him, so it sounds to me like Villa aren't going to keep him. 'I would say for Marcus' sake and for United's sake that it feels like that path has come to an end.' Barcelona are reportedly among the clubs interested in the 27-year-old England international. The 2024-25 LaLiga champions have made their interest in Rashford no secret, with the club's sporting director Deco revealing he 'likes' the England international earlier this month. However, a major stumbling block remains in the form of the asking price, with United looking to get £40m for one of their most successful academy graduates in recent years. Mail Sport understands Rashford is expected to leave United this summer after his fall out with Amorim and has been keen on joining Barca for some time. Elsewhere, Jadon Sancho helped Chelsea clinch a top-four spot and scored in the final of the Conference League as the Blues beat Real Betis 4-1. Neville continued: 'I feel a little bit similarly with him as I do with Marcus. I'd be a bit concerned that Chelsea haven't made the noises that they're going to keep him. 'Again, Manchester United have to make sure they part ways with him and, from Jadon's point of view, he has to make sure that he parts ways with Manchester United.' Neville shared the view that Antony has found his 'perfect' destination in Seville, more specifically in league that 'he's suited down to the ground'. While Garnacho has to depart after taking on his manager. He added: 'If the manager doesn't win, the manager has to leave and I don't think that's going to happen this time. That's happened far too many times before. I think Garnacho will leave purely because of that, I think they've had enough. 'Garnacho can play in the Premier League, no doubt, but I think he'll love it in Spain, he'll thrive over there, he'll score goals. He'll probably be someone next season that we're all looking back on thinking, 'Why didn't Manchester United keep him?', that type of thing will probably happen, there's an element of that, but I think he has to go.' But Neville expressed a very different opinion when it comes to Kobbie Mainoo, who has also been linked with a move away this summer as the club look to avoid breaching the league's Profit and Sustainability rules. 'Mainoo, no. That's a step too far,' said Neville. 'If we can't give Kobbie Mainoo a job in that two in midfield… I look at Mainoo and the way he plays football and I think a top club would want him. Why can't we make him a top player? If he's one of ours and he's shown talent. 'I don't know what's gone on there in the last few months. He's obviously had some injuries which has caused him a problem so he needs to stay fit, but I'd like to think he could be one of that two in midfield that Ruben Amorim plays.'
