Ireland's Sharlene Mawdsley produces season's best performance in US
IRISH ATHLETE Sharlene Mawdsley produced a season's best performance in the 400m event at the Grand Slam Track in Philadelphia today.
The 26-year-old finished fifth out of eight athletes with a time of 51.12.

The race was won by Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist Marileidy Paulino from the Dominican Republic in a time of 49.12.
Bahrain's Salwa Eid Naser, a former world champion, had seemingly finished second but was ultimately disqualified for a lane impediment.
Nickisha Pryce of Jamaica (50.04) consequently moved up to the runners-up spot, while American pair Isabella Whittaker (50.16) and Alexis Holmes (51.02) also finished ahead of the Tipperary native.
Mawdsley returns to action tomorrow, as she competes in the 200m at 9.43pm Irish time.
Andrew Coscoran also features on Sunday — the 3000m event starts at 9:27pm Irish time.

TRIPLE DEFENDING CHAMPION Iga Swiatek marched into the last four at Roland Garros on Tuesday with a straight-sets victory over 13th seed Elina Svitolina. Swiatek bested the former world number three 6-1, 7-5 in just over 90 minutes on Court Philippe Chatrier to continue her bid to equal a 102-year record by winning four successive French Open titles. Munster hurling final ticket update as provincial council provide timeline
The Munster council are expecting Saturday's mouth-watering senior hurling final between Cork and Limerick at the TUS Gaelic Grounds to be a sellout. John Kiely's Treaty side beat Cork to finish top in the round robin phase but both counties ended with a remarkably similar record - won two, drew one and lost one each. Pat Ryan is hoping to lead the Rebels to a first provincial title since 2018 while Limerick are going for their seventh Munster title in a row. It is one of the great days in the Irish sport calendar and there is still a prospect of some tickets being returned for general sale. That will only happen if clubs do not take up the full allocation they were given in the two counties. However, a Munster council source does not expect that to happen, given the excitement and demand around the game. Tickets for the Munster hurling showpiece are still with the counties so the council can't say if it is a sellout until Thursday when any leftover tickets are due to be returned. The TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick has a capacity of 44,023. While it was previously expanded to 49,866 in 2004, subsequent renovations and safety regulations have limited the official capacity to 44,023.
