Suspect in murder of local 32-year-old father arrested in Kentucky
A suspect in the murder of a 32-year-old Fairborn man was arrested in Kentucky on Wednesday.

Detectives identified Brandon Peters as a suspect in the shooting death of Cievion Smith.

As News Center 7 previously reported, Smith was shot and killed outside his apartment complex in Fairborn on Monday.
Detectives learned that Peters ran to Oak Grove, Kentucky, according to a Fairborn police spokesperson.
Around noon on Wednesday, Oak Grove Police found Peters and took him into custody.
Peters is believed to be in custody of the Christian County Jail and awaits extradition back to Fairborn.
Further information about his connection to Smith was not available.

DOJ requests Colorado's 2024, 2020 voting records: ‘Highly unusual and concerning'
DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado's Secretary of State revealed Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Justice asked Colorado to turn over all records that relate to the 2024 federal elections and preserve all records from the 2020 election. The election official sent an email highlighting reporting by NPR, which said the DOJ request was made on May 12. Colorado elections official: Executive order amounts to voter suppression, poll tax 'What they're going to do with all this data, I don't know,' Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, a Democrat, told NPR and shared with FOX31 via email. 'But I'm sure they will use it to push their ridiculous disinformation and lies to the American public.' Colorado's elections have been heralded by Griswold and other officials as being the 'gold standard' of elections for the nation. The news comes on the heels of the Justice Department trying to insert itself into the case of former Mesa County election clerk Tina Peters. Peters has asked to be released from prison while she appeals her conviction, citing her physical and mental health condition, all while trying to capture a pardon from President Donald Trump. Peters was convicted of allowing Trump supporters access to election equipment after his 2020 defeat. She was sentenced to nine years behind bars in October after continuing to press discredited claims about rigged voting machines, even alleging that the secretary of state ordered an illegal deletion of records, but those claims have never been found credible. Jurors found Peters guilty in August for using someone else's security badge to give an expert affiliated with My Pillow chief executive Mike Lindell access to the Mesa County election system and deceiving other officials about that person's identity. Lindell is a prominent promoter of false claims that voting machines were manipulated to steal the election from Trump and is currently standing trial in Denver. Additionally, in October 2024, the Colorado Republican Party revealed that the Secretary of State's website showed partial passwords for election systems in 63 of Colorado's 64 counties. The passwords were posted for months in a hidden tab on the website, according to an investigation, but posed no risk to the election. After the leak, the passwords were updated and the security of voting machines was verified. However, the GOP accused Griswold of quietly trying to fix the matter and called for her resignation. Metro Atlanta parents ‘made a dumb decision' by giving 1-year-old beer, report says
A dinner date at a Coweta restaurant led to the arrest of a couple. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] On June 3, Coweta County deputies were called to the Old Chicago Pizza + Taproom on Fischer Crossing regarding a suspicious person. When the deputy arrived, he met with a manager who pointed out a man in the parking lot, saying he was giving the baby in the back seat beer at the bar. The manager informed the deputy he had video of the incident. The deputy made contact with the man, later identified as 34-year-old Craig Banks. According to the report, Banks had a strong odor of alcohol coming from him. Banks told the deputy that he had been at the restaurant for about an hour. According to the report, while speaking with Banks, he asked why the deputy was talking to him and when the deputy responded, Banks said, 'My baby is one, why the [expletive] would I do that?' Banks told the deputy he and his wife, identified as Paetyn Gregory, 30, went to the restaurant to have one drink. The bartender said Banks ordered a 23-ounce Yuengling Beer. While holding the child, Gregory explained to the deputy, they hadn't been drinking, and she gave the child a sip of her tea, and she knew nothing about the child drinking beer. According to the report, it happened about six times, each time the bartender turned around. Gregory gave the baby to the father to get a high chair and continued to give the child beer, authorities said. Once Gregory came back with the chair, Banks put the child in the chair, looked over to see if anyone was looking, and continued to give the child beer out of his glass as the child's mother was still watching and laughing, according to the report. Deputies said Gregory was seen on video laughing the whole time Banks was giving the kid the beer, after telling officers she didn't think about it. She told deputies the child turned one last month. She was then arrested. Both parents were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. They were booked into the Coweta County Jail. The child was picked turned over into the care of a grandparent.

Traffic Alert: Deadly crash in Yulee closes parts of U.S. 17
Drivers in Yulee are being asked to avoid the area at Goodbread Road and U.S. 17. Parts of U.S. 17 are closed in both directions because of a deadly crash. Nassau County deputies are redirecting traffic. Drivers are being turned around at U.S. 17 and County Road 218. The Florida Highway Patrol is also on the scene.
