Gillian Anderson was ‘profoundly affected' by memoir that inspired The Salt Path

The novel, written by Raynor Winn, follows the author and her husband, Moth, as they lose their home and embark on a long-distance walk with only a few pennies in their pockets.
The X-Files star Anderson, 56, plays Winn in the new film while Harry Potter actor Jason Isaacs stars as her husband.
'I first discovered The Salt Path probably about a year and a half or two before they went into prep', she told the Big Issue.
'I bought Ray's audiobook and was profoundly affected by it. I was then trying to find out about the rights.
'I knew Lloyd Levin, one of the producers, when I used to live in LA.
'I reached out after I found out that he had the rights. It had been a few years, did he think it was actually going to happen?
'If he didn't, could I take over the rights or do it with them? He said, 'we are making this', then they came to me for Ray.'
Isaacs, 61, told the magazine: 'It shocked me how quickly and easily they became homeless. One moment they were sure that they were going to keep their home, then they're sitting in court and suddenly there is a date, a ticking clock.'
After they lost their home the couple completed the 1,000km South West Coast Path, which follows the coastline of Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, and Dorset.
As well as delving into the issue of homelessness, the book and film explore Moth's diagnosis of corticobasal degeneration (CBD), a rare condition that can cause gradually worsening problems with movement, speech, memory and swallowing, according to the NHS website.
In 2017, Winn had an article published in the Big Issue and said 'everything changed' for her after this.
The Salt Path was published in March 2018 and became a Sunday Times bestseller.
The film will be released on May 30.

BBC Radio Scotland presenter Bryan Burnett announces cancer diagnosis

BBC Radio Scotland presenter Bryan Burnett has announced that he will be taking a break from his presenting role following a cancer diagnosis. The broadcaster, 59, announced on Thursday that he would be stepping back from his early evening programme Get It On to undergo appendiceal cancer treatment. Speaking on air, he said the tumour was first discovered earlier this year while he was having surgery to remove his appendix. He said: 'Appendix cancer is incredibly rare but the good news is it is treatable, but I do have to have some fairly hefty abdominal surgery next week. 'It's going to mean I am going to be off work for a couple of months and you know how hard I will find that. However, I'm expected to make a full recovery, which is good news, and will be back on air, on the show that I truly love, later in the year. 'Those of you who are regular listeners know that we are such a close team on Get It On, so I also want to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to my brilliant producers for all the hand-holding and encouragement they've given me since they found out my news. I'm sure they will let you know how I'm doing over the next few weeks.' In a statement he said his treatment will begin next week and will involve abdominal surgery and chemotherapy. Burnett said: 'I've experienced the most incredible care and kindness from the NHS staff who have been looking after me. 'My surgeon is a Get It On listener so I know I'm in good hands. 'I will really miss the music and the chat when I'm off but our listeners have given me hundreds of great playlists so that will keep me going over the next few months.' Broadcaster Grant Stott will step in to present the show in his absence. Hayley Valentine, director BBC Scotland, said: 'Bryan is one of our most popular broadcasters on Radio Scotland and I know listeners will join us in wishing him well as he embarks on his treatment. 'We look forward to welcoming him back to the Get It On studio once he's recovered.'

Tom Felton returning as Draco Malfoy for ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' on Broadway

Tom Felton is reprising his role as Draco Malfoy — this time on Broadway. The actor announced exclusively on TODAY that he will be returning as the beloved villain of the 'Harry Potter' series in the Broadway production, 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,' for 19 weeks starting in November. 'It's very much a pinch-me situation,' Felton told Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin on June 5. 'I keep thinking I'm dreaming. I let go of that character 16 years ago, and now I get to step back into his shoes, as a father this time, in a new story.' Felton, 37, will become the first member of the original film cast to join the Broadway show, which takes place 19 years after the end of the original series, as Draco, Harry, Ron and Hermione are sending their own children off to Hogwarts. ''Potter' was a massive chunk of my childhood, and now I get to sort of go back whilst also going forward,' Felton later told 'The play is such an independent story from the 'Potter' films that I grew up with. We start 19 years later ... now we're no longer children. We actually are the parents. So as much as it is reprising an old role for me, it's very much treading into new, unfamiliar territory. I know him quite well as a kid. I don't know him that well as an adult. So that's the that's the exciting challenge ahead for me.' The reprisal of the role marks the first time Felton will portray Draco in nearly 15 years, and is also Felton's Broadway debut. 'It's very, very easy to get emotional,' Felton said. 'When they put my blond wig on for the theater production, I just immediately cried. It was just sort of like a blast from the past. ... It was something that I never thought I'd see again.' Felton is set to star in the show Nov. 11, 2025, to March 22, 2026, at the Lyric Theatre in New York City. Fans can sign up for first access to tickets which will unlock entry to a presale that begins on June 10 at 11 a.m. ET. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on June 12 at 11 a.m. ET. 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,' the highest-grossing non-musical play in Broadway history, has sold more than 10 million tickets worldwide since its premiere in London in 2016. It is the fourth longest-running Broadway play ever and has productions running currently in London, New York, Hamburg and Tokyo. Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, producers behind the Broadway production, said in a statement that they can't wait to see Felton portray the role 'once again with the same depth, gravity, and humanity he has always brought to Draco.' 'It's not lost on us that this is a cultural moment charged with nostalgia, evolution, and emotion,' Friedman and Callender said. 'Tom's return to Hogwarts bridges generations of fans and breathes new life into a beloved story. We're beyond thrilled to welcome Tom back 'home' but also into a new family: our Broadway company.' A renewed 'Harry Potter' craze is only beginning on Broadway, as HBO announced it would be adapting J.K. Rowling's books into a television series earlier this year. After casting directors watched tens of thousands of children audition, Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout were chosen to play Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively.
