Belal Muhammad fires back at 'most active loser' Kevin Holland ahead of UFC 316

Belal Muhammad fires back at 'most active loser' Kevin Holland ahead of UFC 316 It's always the ones that'll never touch gold that have the most to say doesn't This bum lose every other fight he's in — Belal Muhammad (@bullyb170) June 4, 2025 MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Kevin Holland got an instant response when he said he was happy to see Belal Muhammad lose the UFC welterweight title. Muhammad (24-4 MMA, 15-4 UFC) lost his belt to Jack Della Maddalena by unanimous decision at UFC 315. The pair predominantly stood for the five rounds, which earned them the Fight of the Night bonus. Despite the entertaining battle Muhammad put on against Della Maddalena, Holland (27-13 MMA, 14-10 UFC) decided to take a jab at the former champion when asked about the fight. "Du Plessis is a better champ to watch than Belal, so it was pretty cool to see Belal lose the belt," Holland told MMA Junkie and other reporters during Wednesday's media day. "I thought Belal was going to lose the belt, regardless. I said a long time ago when Islam (Makhachev) was teaching him to hold the belt, if it was someone to take the belt from him, it would be Islam. "I thought Islam was going to come up, regardless, and take it. Belal's best win to me was Sean Brady. I was shocked that he ever beat Brady, but I've never thought the world of Belal. He's a hard worker. He puts in the work. But camps boil down to who's going to put in the most work, and as long as you outwork Belal during the camp, you can damn sure outwork him in the fight. That's all he really has is work ethic." Muhammad fired back at Holland. "It's always the ones that'll never touch gold that have the most to say. Doesn't this bum lose every other fight he's in." Holland took to Instagram to ask, "If you haven't defended the belt, did you really get a f*cking belt?" The pair continued to trade barbs, as Muhammad criticized Holland's record, and Holland mocked Muhammad's striking in his loss to Della Maddalena. Your only as good as your last fight!! 😂 😂😂 but nah good one just wished you would of did better with those canelo hands 🤡 — Kevin Holland (@Trailblaze2top) June 4, 2025 Holland will remain at welterweight when he takes on Vicente Luque (23-10-1 MMA, 16-6 UFC) in Saturday's UFC 316 main card opener (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Ian Machado Garry: Leon Edwards should retire, clearly doesn't have love for it anymore

Ian Machado Garry: Leon Edwards should retire, clearly doesn't have love for it anymore Ian Machado Garry doesn't think former UFC champ Leon Edwards can hang with the rising contenders anymore. After going on a 13-fight unbeaten streak, Edwards (22-5 MMA, 14-4 UFC) has dropped back-to-back fights – losing his welterweight title to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304, followed by a submission loss to Sean Brady at UFC Fight Night 255 in March. Judging by the dominant nature of his loss to Brady, Machado Garry (16-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) questions Edwards' fighting spirit. "If I was Leon, I would be retiring," Machado Garry told talkSPORT MMA. "He clearly doesn't have the love for it anymore, clearly doesn't have the talent for it against the best young youth in the division. Just kick it in, say you were a world champion and go off into the streets of Birmingham and tell the people the story of what was, not what is." As for his own career, 27-year-old Machado Garry remains confident that he will realize his goal of becoming UFC champion. "It should have come back in UFC 315 in Canada. That's the truth: It should have," Machado Garry said of a title shot. "But they decided to go with a guy who's been out for a year and coming off a broken arm and not being active for a year. But that's up to them as a business, and they can do what they want. All I know is I was present for the world title fight between Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena in Canada, and had I fought that night, I would have a belt wrapped around my waist. That's what I fully believe."

Chael Sonnen on Belal Muhammad's UFC title loss: 'They don't ever give him his credit'

Chael Sonnen on Belal Muhammad's UFC title loss: 'They don't ever give him his credit' Chael Sonnen doesn't understand the criticism surrounding former UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad. Muhammad (24-4 MMA, 15-4 UFC) lost his welterweight title to Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315 last month in a Fight of the Night battle. Muhammad is often criticized for his fighting style, but he stood toe-to-toe with Della Maddalena for five rounds. Sonnen says the hate toward Muhammad is unwarranted. He praised him for taking on all comers and taking the long road to the top. "Why does the whole world treat him like crap? What did Belal ever do to anybody," Sonnen told The Schmo. "Half of the UFC, it's divided in the first floor and second floor. The guys on the second floor don't like him; the guys on the first floor do like him. I don't understand this. All Belal has ever done is fight the hardest guys, ask for opportunities and keep his mouth shut when it doesn't go his way. "He walks out there in an undercard against Sean Brady, who by the way nobody else has ever, prior or since, even come close to beating. They don't ever give him his credit. The best thing he's done, which was about two weeks after his fight, he called for his next fight which by the way had he won, is what he would have done days ago." Sonnen also liked the way Muhammad handled his loss, and his determination to get his belt back. "There's a time in life where if you ever want to become a gentlemen you have to learn how to lose," Sonnen added. "You have to learn that if things don't go your way, you get back on that horse. That's a great example that Belal set for everybody and it's yet another thing that he won't get credit for, but he deserves it."
