Nico Williams sends transfer message to Barcelona
Athletic Club star Nico Williams this week forwarded something of a request to La Liga rivals Barcelona, regarding their ongoing pursuit of his signature. That's according to Diario Sport, who have on Saturday provided an insight into the situation. Advertisement Wide-man Nico has of course already agreed on the terms of a contract with Barcelona, all the way through the summer of 2031. With Athletic Club having made clear that they have no intention of negotiating a transfer with Barca, the Blaugrana have in turn been left with no other option than to pay the Spanish international's exit clause, in full. And it is precisely as much which Nico himself would like to see forked over at the earliest possibility opportunity. As per a report from Sport, whilst the 22-year-old has not set many conditions for his joining Barcelona, he has sent one request to Deco and co: Advertisement 'He wants the payment of his clause to be done before July 9, the date on which Athletic returns to work to carry out the preseason. Nico does not want soap operas or speculation of any kind and is clear that the pressure he would have to endure would be very strong if he joins the discipline of the Basque team.' Real Madrid ‘optimistic' about sealing defender signing
La Liga giants Real Madrid remain confident when it comes to their chances of tying up a deal for Benfica star Álvaro Carreras. That's according to journalist Jorge C Picon, who has this weekend provided the latest on the situation. Advertisement The name of Spaniard Carreras has of course taken its place centre stage in the media headlines in his home country over recent weeks. This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that new Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso had identified the 22-year-old as the perfect addition to his squad for next season. An agreement with Benfica, in turn, was not expected to be long in being found. To date, though, no such accord has been forthcoming, culminating in mounting concern amongst those of a Real Madrid persuasion. But as alluded to above, if the latest word doing the rounds in the media on Saturday is anything to go by, Los Blancos' fanbase, as of yet, need not fret. Advertisement As per a report from transfer insider Jorge C Picon: 'Real Madrid are still keeping an eye on Álvaro Carreras, who remains the top choice for the left-back position. Although the club wanted to have him for the Club World Cup, they will aim to bring him in once it concludes. Optimism surrounds his arrival.' Conor Laird – GSFN
