Prince of Wales leaves surprise message on Radio 2

Glasgow Times8 hours ago

William left the message to highlight the Earthshot Prize – a global environmental award of which he is founder and president.
Also appearing on the show on Tuesday morning was conservationist and presenter Robert Irwin, who was in the studio with Mills to answer voicenotes with animal-themed questions from children.
Irwin, who is the son of the late Australian conservationist Steve Irwin, was told by Mills there was just one voicenote left to be played and was shocked to hear that it was none other than Prince William.
William said: 'Good morning, Scott, or should I say G'day, Scott? I know you've got the fantastic Robert Irwin on the show this morning, brilliant ambassador for the Earthshot Prize. Sorry, I can't be with you both this morning, hoping to catch up with you soon.'
The prince went on: 'You're very much invited to the Earthshot Prize in Rio in Brazil in November. It's going to be a fantastic event, great show.
'Just beware Scott, that Robert likes to pull random terrifying animals and creatures out of his pockets while he's on anyone's show and talking to them. So just watch your back at all times that a tarantula or something doesn't suddenly pop onto your desk.
'But listen, have a good show, and hope to catch up on you both very soon. Goodbye.'
Irwin, who is an ambassador for the Earthshot Prize, was left laughing by the message. He also spoke to Scott about continuing his father's legacy as a committed conservationist.
Each year, five winners are awarded the Earthshot Prize from a shortlist of 15.
On its website it describes Brazil as being a fitting place to host the prize in November, as it is home to more than half of the Amazon rainforest and nearly a fifth of the world's biodiversity.

Kate's 'strict realisation' amid cancer recovery following Royal Ascot absence

The Princess of Wales is still gradually returning to full-time royal duties following her treatment for cancer - and one insider has revealed how she views her work now The Princess of Wales is now 'quite strict' when it comes to working out what public outings she needs to be at, according to an insider. Kate has been gradually returning to public duties following her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment and it is understood that she is trying to find the right balance. But in a surprise move last week, she missed Royal Ascot for the second successive year, despite her name originally appearing on the official list of those taking part in a carriage procession on the second day of the festival. And now as she navigates her return to full-time duties, one source has spoken out about her current approach to public appearances. ‌ ‌ Speaking to the Daily Mail, they said: "She's quite strict now at working out what she needs to be at and what she doesn't,' a source says. "And people forget that even if they aren't seeing her in public, she is very hands-on behind the scenes with the team in the office. She has her own projects to pursue, such as her early years initiative. That's a lifelong commitment for HRH." Previously, another royal source reiterated that Kensington Palace has consistently stressed the need for 'flexibility' around the Princess of Wales ' public engagements. They added that the princess completed three engagements in the week leading up to Royal Ascot, attending the new V&A East Storeroom exhibition space in London, the King's official birthday celebrations at Trooping the Colour and Garter Day in Windsor. It is not clear when the princess took the decision not to join the royals at the races, but fans had been hoping to see Kate as William was one of the figures awarding prizes during the second day of the meeting. ‌ She was named among the guests joining King Charles and Queen Camilla in the traditional carriage procession, but a revised list was quickly issued after Kensington Palace confirmed she would not be attending. Kate announced in January she was now in remission and focussed on healing, while the King is still undergoing weekly treatment for the disease. Before she made her first public appearance after her diagnosis at Trooping the Colour last year, she revealed how she was "taking each day as it comes". Speaking at the time, she said: "As anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty." ‌ In September when her chemotherapy treatment ended, Kate described in an emotional video message how the previous nine months had been "incredibly tough for us as a family" and "doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus". William later said in a separate interview that 2024 had been a 'brutal' year. The princess' measured return to royal duties was welcomed by Queen Elizabeth II's former communications secretary Ailsa Anderson. Speaking before Kate's withdrawal from Royal Ascot, she told People magazine: "She's being sensible, listening to what her body is telling her and easing back into public life."

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's star-studded $10m wedding guest list 'revealed'

Some of the biggest names in Hollywood have jetted out to Venice this week to celebrate the severely swanky wedding of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez. The billionaire businessman, 61, and the former journalist, 55, went public with their relationship in 2019, and announced their engagement in 2023, after four years of dating. Details have remained under wraps over their nuptials but plans haven't gone down well with locals who have launched protests – hanging banners, stickers, posters and signs around the area condemning the celebrations. Kim Kardashian and momager Kris Jenner are said to be making the journey to Italy – having celebrated the bride's hen do in Paris last month – with Orlando Bloom also reportedly on the guest list. According to TMZ, Katy Perry received an invite after jetting to space with Lauren for a controversial trip, but is currently on the Australian leg of her tour, so may be sitting the event out. Although a full, finalized guest list has not been shared, the outlet reports that a string of famous faces received invites to support the happy couple on their big day. Around 200 people were personally invited, with suggesting that they were spending roughly $50,000 per person – racking up a rumored $10million bill. Following their jaunt to space, Gayle King is thought to have been sent an invitation along with her best friend, Oprah Winfrey. Kim has been a close friend of Lauren for years and will most likely be spotted around Venice alongside her mom, Kris, and the businesswoman's long-term boyfriend, Corey Gamble. It was also claimed that Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, Camila Morrone, Brooks Nader and Jewel scored a summons. Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria may also be in attendance, after heading to Paris for the bride-to-be's bachelorette. TMZ reports that film producer Brian Grazer and businessman Michael Kives will be checking out the sites in Venice, with iconic fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg allegedly making the trip with her husband, Barry Diller, and son Alexander von Fürstenberg. Lauren's ex, Tony Gonzalez, has also made the guest list – which is not surprising as his wife, October Gonzalez, attended her pre-wedding bash in France. However, the publication alleges that her ex-husband, Patrick Whitesell, will not be rubbing shoulders with the guests – though it is unclear whether he was invited. Jeff and Lauren were first linked at the beginning of 2019, amid reports that they had been spending time together. Shortly after, the mogul announced his divorce from ex-wife MacKenzie Scott – who he shares four children with – officially bringing their 25-year marriage to an end. The ex-Good Day LA host also separated from her husband – Endeavour agency chairman Patrick, after welcoming two children together. She is also mom to a son with NFL star Tony. It is unclear how the lovebirds met, but reports claim that they grew close while working on several projects together. Lauren has remained by Jeff's side ever since, and has publicly supported him at his space missions in 2021. They took things to the next level two years ago, and announced their engagement after a trip to the South of France. Unpacking the romantic moment with Vogue, she recalled: 'When he opened the box, I think I blacked out a bit.' She also confirmed that she would be changing her name when they tie the knot, adding: 'Uh, yes, one hundred percent. I am looking forward to being Mrs Bezos.' Last January, Lauren shared a glimpse into their relationship with a sweet post on Instagram, to mark her beau's milestone 60th birthday. More Trending 'Today is another day where your laughter fills our home, and that smile of yours lights up every room,' she penned, beside a string of snaps. 'Wishing you an abundance of simple joys and quiet moments of happiness. May this year be filled with everything you love, from peaceful mornings to joyous celebrations. 'I hope each day brings you countless reasons to smile, just like you give me a reason to smile every single day. Love you, and happy birthday, my love.' Got a story? Listen as Prince William attempts unexpected accent in BBC Radio 2 voice note

Prince William surprised BBC Radio 2 host Scott Mills live on air with an unexpected voice note on Tuesday's (24 June) show. The Prince of Wales donned an Australian accent and said: ''Good morning, Scott, or should I say g'day, Scott?' Featuring on the show was Robert Irwin, an Australian ambassador for the Earthshot Prize, and William apologised for not being able to be there to greet him in person. He then joked Mills should be cautious of Irwin as he 'likes to pull random terrifying animals and creatures out of his pockets while he's on anyone's show and talking to them'.
