Banking hub opens in Crewkerne to help customers face-to-face
A new banking hub has opened, after a town was left with only a single building society for local residents.Liberal Democrat MP Adam Dance put in the request for the service to be introduced in Crewkerne, Somerset, and became its first customer.Alice Samuel, the town's mayor, said the benefit of the hub is "you don't have to travel out of town, it's there and it's accessible".Crewkerne is the latest town in the county to get the service, following Wellington and Frome.
Ms Samuel said: "Lots of people don't feel confident doing online banking, or even speaking on the phone to banks, so you can actually speak to someone from your bank face-to-face."Cat Farrow, customer and strategy director from Cash Access UK, said: "The way people are banking is changing, for that reason banks have closed branches but the great thing about banking hubs is they can share facilities."It's a much more efficient way of doing things."

Elon Musk says he now 'regrets' some of his social media posts about Trump after major fallout
A reunion of the world's richest man and the most powerful may not be imminent, but at least one of them has now expressed his regrets as their relationship lies in ruins. Elon Musk said on X in the early hours of Wednesday that he 'regrets' some of the barbs he posted as he and President Donald Trump traded insults on social media and said they 'went too far.' Musk didn't elaborate in his 3 a.m. ET message on which posts from last week he regretted and he didn't explain what caused his sudden change of heart. At the height of their online feud — sparked by landmark spending legislation Trump calls the 'big, beautiful bill' — Musk said president wouldn't have won the election without him and accused him of undermining the work of DOGE in cutting billions from federal budgets. Musk referred to the bill as a 'disgusting abomination' that would land the U.S. in unsustainable debt. Trump on Saturday made clear his disappointment with his former ally, suggesting the U.S. government could cut its lucrative ties with Musk's businesses and prompting the angry Tesla founder to highlight the president's one-time links with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Musk replied 'Yes' to an X user who suggested Trump should be impeached. In an interview Saturday Trump told NBC News that there would be unspecified 'serious consequences' for Musk were he to financially back any Democrat candidates in future elections who oppose the government's sweeping budget bill. The bill has already passed the House, but it could be rejected in the Senate with just four Republican defections needed to defeat it. Musk has previously been an influential advisor to the Trump administration and a major Republican donor, leading the Department of Government Efficiencies in cutting billions from federal budgets and fronting election campaigns. The pair showered each other with praise and the president invited Musk to attend cabinet meetings. Trump marked the official end of Musk's government role with a ceremony in the Oval Office during which he handed the Tesla founder a symbolic golden key. But as Trump's priorities shifted to passing his budget bill and Musk wound down his time at the White House to return to his businesses, the relationship soured. The stakes are high for Musk and his companies, some of which rely on government subsidies. Tesla lost $152 billion from its market capitalization in the wake of the spat, its biggest ever hit, but its stock price has since pared some of those losses.

How Trump's $45 million DC parade will lower food prices
President Trump promised to get those grocery prices down. He's a master dealmaker, so he said prices would drop on Day 1. I've noticed that didn't happen, since I'm still paying $10 for a box of Patriot-O's cereal ("It's like an insurrection in your tummy!") and alternating which kid gets to eat dinner each night. Trump spending millions sending troops to LA will lower food prices But that's all part of Trump's genius. He SAID grocery prices would fall immediately, then they didn't, and now he's spending millions on things that appear to have nothing to do with lowering grocery prices or inflation. CHECKMATE, DEMOCRATS! Opinion: After LA, Trump hard launches new First Amendment: Only MAGA can protest I'm confident that once MY president uses loads of taxpayer money squashing the LA protests he smartly provoked and celebrating his birthday by destroying the streets of DC with a tank parade, grocery stores and food suppliers will have no choice but to drop their prices. Because who knows what this guy might do next? It's the art of the deal, baby! Trump's business savvy means we all benefit from his birthday parade Say you're a grocery store owner and you're about to slap a price tag on a box of cereal. Those cereal producers might be charging the store more because of Trump's incredibly smart tariffs, or because of supply chain issues, or because of the inflation Trump promised would disappear, that hasn't disappeared yet. (That's also part of his master plan - he's trying to confuse inflation so it won't know what to expect out of him. Classic dealmaker maneuver.) Opinion: Trump lied about LA protests to deploy the National Guard. He wants violence. If you're a Marxist, radical, socialist Democrat, you probably think: The grocery store owner is going to put a higher price on the cereal because it costs them more, and they need to make a profit. WRONG! 'I'm going to patriotically lower the cost of this cereal' That grocery store owner is going to think: "Since President Trump was willing to spend millions in taxpayer money to send the Marines into Los Angeles to fight people I don't like, and because he loves America so much he made America pay for his birthday parade, I'm going to patriotically lower the cost of this cereal to make my president look good, even if it means I'll go out of business in three months." Duh. That's a little thing called good ol' American capitalism, you lefty doorknobs. Look it up!! Enjoy the military parade and the US invasion of LA, MAGA! So yes, as an American who loves America and has invested my life savings in President Trump's cryptocurrency, I feel 1,000% confident that dropping nearly $200 million on invading Los Angeles and rolling tanks through our nation's capital will lower grocery prices and probably also reduce inflation. The rest of you just don't understand how America can get great again. Maybe if you watch the big June 14 military parade that we're paying for, you'll understand.
