The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) on Saturday announced the 'Elite Retained Players', 'Retained Young Players', and 'New Young Players' for Season 12, with the season 12 auction set to take place on May 31 and June 1 in Mumbai.
While most franchises have retained their key players, they will also be looking to build stronger units in the upcoming PKL Season 12 Player Auction.
Top players retained by their respective teams include Sunil Kumar and Amirmohammad Zafardanesh (U Mumba), Jaideep Dahiya (Haryana Steelers), Surender Gill (UP Yoddhas), and the Puneri Paltan duo of Aslam Inamdar and Mohit Goyat.
Meanwhile, a total of 83 players were retained across three categories: 25 in the Elite Retained Players (ERP) category, 23 in the Retained Young Players (RYP) category, and 35 in the New Young Players (NYP) category.
500+ players, including notable Indian players like Pawan Sehrawat, Arjun Deshwal, Ashu Malik and PKL 11's top raider Devank Dalal, are set to go under the hammer. Iranian powerhouses Fazel Atrachali and Mohammadreza Shadloui alongside PKL veterans Maninder Singh, and Pardeep Narwal, will also enter the PKL 12 auction.
An interesting statistic to note is that star raider Naveen Kumar will go under the hammer for the first time. The PKL 8 winner will enter the auction having scored 1102 Raid Points for Dabang Delhi K.C. across six seasons. He will be the first player in the history of the league to have 1000+ points with a single team before entering a PKL auction.
For the auction, both domestic and overseas players will be divided into four categories: A, B, C, and D. Within each category, players will be further classified as 'All-Rounders', 'Defenders', and 'Raiders'. The base prices for each category are:
Category A: INR 30 Lakh
Category B: INR 20 Lakh
Category C: INR 13 Lakh
Category D: INR 9 Lakh
Each franchise will have a total salary purse of INR 5 Crore available for its squad.

As IPL Ends, A New League Tips Off: India Gets Its Own Professional Basketball League

As Season 18 of the Indian Premier League comes to a close, another global sport is preparing to step into the spotlight. Basketball, long popular among Indian youth but lacking professional infrastructure, is now set to establish its own space with a dedicated league. ACG Sports, in collaboration with the Basketball Federation of India, has officially announced the launch of a new professional basketball league — with the broader goal of transforming the sport's ecosystem in the country. The announcement was made at Mumbai's Taj Lands End, in the presence of: Karan Singh (Managing Director, ACG), Jeffrey Loeliger (Director, ACG Sports), Aadhav Arjuna (President, Basketball Federation of India) and Kulvinder Singh Gill (Secretary General, Basketball Federation of India) A League the Nation Can Rally Behind Jeffrey Loeliger highlighted the importance of building a connected ecosystem. 'Every part of this ecosystem — players, associations, fans — is co-dependent. The goal of this league is to elevate talent, feed into the national teams, and ultimately make basketball accessible to any kid, anywhere in India,' he said. Speaking on the timing of the launch, Karan Singh remarked, 'This was long overdue. From day one, we agreed with the federation that this sport — its players, its talent — deserves investment. We need to unify the basketball ecosystem under one body and bring in passionate partners who want to build it sustainably.' Replicating the Dalmiya Model Aadhav Arjuna, President of the BFI, drew a compelling comparison to cricket's rise in India. 'Over a hundred years ago, cricket wasn't our sport — it was hockey. But it was Jagmohan Dalmiya's vision that brought in commerce and changed the game. That's what we need now for basketball,' he said. 'We already have the schools, the courts, the youth. What we need is a strong narrative — one that brings together government, business, and passion. Dalmiya had that. We're building toward it.' Building Basketball Culture On growing the sport beyond the court, Jeffrey pointed to the need for basketball to permeate everyday life. 'You see kids wearing jerseys, tracking sneaker drops, copying moves from YouTube — basketball already lives in their culture,' he said. He also emphasized that the league must be fan-first to be sustainable — a lesson drawn from the Australian model. 'Young fans are the biggest consumers now — and they're loyal. They'll grow up, spend on the sport, and even build careers around it. That's where long-term success lies.' The Road Ahead While the official launch signals a strong beginning, several key pieces are still in motion — including scheduling, the franchise/ownership model, and final confirmation of men's and women's participation. Venue availability and syncing with national player calendars are also under consideration. A High Performance Centre is slated to launch next year, where identified raw talent will be trained by top coaches and developed into elite professionals.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma absence felt immediately after Team India lands in England: 'Get used to it. Time to witness…'

For the first time since 2011, an England-bound Indian Test team will not feature either Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. The two senior batters announced their retirement from the traditional format last month, leaving the BCCI selectors to pick a new-look Indian side, with Shubman Gill at the helm. But their absence was felt immediately after the Indian side landed in London on Saturday, amid no fans or media at the airport. From the airport to the practice ground, Adelaide had thronged with fans and media when Kohli landed with the Indian team for the tour of Australia last November. The 36-year-old, believed to be playing his final Test series in Australia, had made headlines even before the contest got underway. Such was the hype that Indian team management was forced to conduct a closed-door practice session, forcing fans to climb trees to catch a glimpse of the superstar. But none was seen on Saturday in London after the Gill-led side landed for the five-match Test series, starting June 20. In a video that went viral on social media, Indian journalist Vimal Kumar said, "I did not get to see that hype. Not a single fan or media personnel was seen." While few fans reckoned the aur of Test cricket was gone with the retirement of Kohli and Rohit, some feared it was the "downfall of Indian Test cricket." However, few remained optimistic, saying that the aura would return with Gill getting his bat to do the talking. The first question Gill was asked at the press conference in Mumbai earlier this week before the departure to London, was about the absence of Kohli and Rohit, and the pressure it would put on the young side. But the captain boldly dismissed it, saying it was just like any tough situation they had faced before. "Pressure is always there in every tour. Definitely, two very experienced players who played for such a long time and won so many times, very difficult to fill their space. But it is not a different kind of pressure, all of us players are used to it," he said in the pre-tour presser on Wednesday.

IND vs ENG: KL Rahul to NOT open in England? Star cricketer gives his opinion on Team India combination

KL Rahul and Gautam Gambhir. (PIC - X) New Delhi: The Indian team will start the new cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC) with a five-match Test series against England. After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Tests, there is bound to be a change in the combination of the Indian team. It will be interesting to see how India's top order looks against England. Rohit usually used to open, while Kohli used to play at number four. Now it remains to be seen who the team management chooses for these two positions. Ricky Ponting has a different opinion about the opening order: KL Rahul opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal for India A in the second unofficial Test match against England Lions. Rahul strengthened his claim as an opening batsman by scoring a century. It is also believed that the same opening pair will play against England, but former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has a different opinion about this. Ricky Ponting said what the top order will be like: In the ICC review, Ponting said, I think Sai Sudarshan and Yashasvi Jaiswal will open the innings in England. In my view, Sudarshan is a brilliant player and technically I also think he can do well in Test cricket. India will have two young openers, so it is possible that they may field an experienced player at number three. In this situation, KL Rahul or Karun Nair can come at number three and Gill can come to bat at number four. As a young captain, it would be better for him not to open or come at number three. Sudarshan, Yashasvi, KL Rahul, Gill and Karun Nair can be India's top five batsmen in the England series.
