Fanatics Sportsbook promo for Stanley Cup Playoffs: Hurricanes vs. Capitals Game 2 predictions, odds
Game 1 between the Washington Capitals and the Carolina Hurricanes appeared a lot closer than it was.
Although the final score was 2-1 in favor of the Hurricanes, the box score shows that Carolina could have won this contest going away.
The Canes outshot the Caps, 33-14, and they created 60 more shot attempts than Washington.
The expected goals ended 4.2 to 2.5 in favor of Carolina.
Will Game 2 look any different? Or will the Caps find their legs and send this series to Raleigh tied at one?

Hurricanes vs. Capitals Game 2 betting preview
The knock on the Hurricanes for the past three seasons has been that they have to work extremely hard to generate their scoring chances, and they don't have the finishing talent to execute on the opportunities that they do create.
That showed in Game 1, as the Canes didn't get on the scoreboard until the third period and needed overtime to dispatch the Caps despite generating 90 shot attempts.
Betting on the NHL?
It's hard not to be impressed with the way Carolina played in Game 1 but, at the same time, you have to imagine that the Caps will improve and close the gap, which shrinks the margin for error even more for the Canes.
Hurricanes vs. Capitals Game 2 pick
The Capitals will need to make some adjustments, but there are some options available to Spencer Carbery to give his team more punch at 5-on-5.
Aliaksei Protas got on the board Tuesday, and he should be in line to move up the lineup after playing his second game since returning from injury.

Protas notched 30 goals in the regular season, and pushing him up to play with Dylan Strome and Alex Ovechkin or Pierre-Luc Dubois and Tom Wilson would give the Caps more scoring punch.
The price on Protas to get on the board again looks quite tempting for Game 2.
The Play: Aliaksei Protas to score 1+ goals (+450)

RUMOR: The ‘high bidder' for Mitch Marner in free agency
The post RUMOR: The 'high bidder' for Mitch Marner in free agency appeared first on ClutchPoints. Mitch Marner struggled in the latter part of the second round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, as the Toronto Maple Leafs fell in seven games to the defending champion Florida Panthers. The star right winger, in what could be his last run with the franchise that drafted him a decade ago, lumbers into the offseason. It won't be long before he gains a pep in his step, however. Advertisement The 28-year-old will enter free agency and command one of the biggest NHL contracts of the summer. Despite his occasional playoff struggles, Marner helped the Leafs get to the point where they became postseason mainstays. There are some moribund teams that yearn for high-stakes hockey after an extended stay in the doldrums. And if that franchise is willing to pay a substantial amount of money for the prospect of brighter days, it may just land the multi-time All-Star. The Anaheim Ducks proved how serious they are about leaping back into relevance when they hired the controversial yet legendary Joel Quenneville to be their new head coach. Now, they might have the urge to go on a big summer shopping spree. Will Ducks pull the trigger on Mitch Marner? The front office has the means to make some noise if it so chooses. 'Several folks pointed to Anaheim and {general manager} Pat Verbeek wanting to make a big move or two to finally push the young club forward after seven consecutive years out of the playoffs,' James Mirtle of The Athletic reported. Advertisement 'Some of the chatter is that they'll potentially be the high bidder for Mitch Marner, with an unheard-of average annual value north of the $14 million that the Oilers' Leon Draisaitl currently makes as the NHL's highest-paid player.' The Ducks and their fans are suffering through a franchise-record playoffs drought. It is plausible that they would be willing to shell out a historic contract to end the ongoing failures. People will understandably fret over the idea of backing up the Brink's truck for someone who has a tendency to underwhelm in big games, but Anaheim residents have not sniffed a postseason game since 2018. The team cannot pursue The Cup without first gaining entry to the party. A player who has four straight 90-plus-point seasons under his belt can help the Ducks barge their way through the door. Ambition and desperation could very well reign supreme in the upcoming Marner sweepstakes.

Oilers' Connor McDavid sends subtle warning after embarrassing Game 3 loss
The post Oilers' Connor McDavid sends subtle warning after embarrassing Game 3 loss appeared first on ClutchPoints. Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers were dominated by the Florida Panthers in Game 3 of the 2025 Stanley Cup Final. Edmonton lost its cool in the third period, sparking a line brawl between the teams. In the end, the Oilers dropped this game by a score of 6-1. And they now trail in this series. Advertisement Edmonton did not put its best foot forward in this game. And their performance shows a major contrast between their first two games. They played rather tight, close games against the Panthers back home in Edmonton. They won the first game in overtime while dropping Game 2 in double overtime. Still, the Oilers had things to clean up. And it seems as if McDavid agrees. He made a rather striking comment following Game 3 to this effect. It was essentially a warning to Florida that this team is not ready to roll over and give up. 'I don't think our best has shown up all series long, but it's coming,' McDavid said, via The Athletic's Chris Johnston. How Oilers' Connor McDavid can impact 2025 Stanley Cup Final Walter Tychnowicz-Imagn Images There are very, very few players like McDavid in NHL history, let alone the current makeup of the league. The Oilers captain is on track to go down as one of the greatest players of all time. The only thing he is missing is a Stanley Cup. Advertisement McDavid has shown he can make a massive impact in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Last season, the Oilers captain had a historic postseason run that resulted in him winning the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP. This is in spite of the fact that his team lost the Stanley Cup Final in seven games against these same Panthers. McDavid was a force in last year's Final. In fact, he was the only player who scored more than 10 points in the series. He had 11 points in seven games as Edmonton fought back from 3-0 down. The next closest players in terms of scoring for the Oilers were Warren Foegele and Evan Bouchard, who each had five points. There aren't many players who can break games open like McDavid. And even fewer can take over an entire series. The Oilers captain may need to take over one more time this postseason if he wants this Panthers series to end with his first Stanley Cup ring. Oilers' Stuart Skinner pulled from Game 3 amid disastrous night vs. Panthers
The post Oilers' Stuart Skinner pulled from Game 3 amid disastrous night vs. Panthers appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Edmonton Oilers had some life entering Game 3 of the 2025 Stanley Cup Final. They played two extremely close games against the Florida Panthers. And they were one goal away from a 2-0 series lead. Unfortunately, they dropped the ball hard in Game 3 on Monday. Goalie Stuart Skinner was at the forefront of this disastrous performance. Advertisement Skinner allowed five goals on 23 shots against the Panthers. Edmonton did not support him at all, either, as they scored just once. In the end, Skinner was pulled from Game 3. Veteran backup Calvin Pickard took the crease to finish out the remainder of this contest. Pickard played well enough in Game 3 to stop the bleeding. However, he did not spark the team toward a miraculous victory. The Panthers won Game 3 by a score of 6-1 after they scored a power-play goal on Pickard in the third. The Oilers are down 2-1 in the 2025 Stanley Cup Final, and they are walking a razor's edge the rest of this series. Oilers walking fine line with Panthers loss in Game 3 Jim Rassol-Imagn Images The Oilers fell behind the Los Angeles Kings 2-0 in the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. It was an unfortunate spot to be in early on. But Edmonton remained composed, and they rattled off four wins to claim the series. This may not be the case in the 2025 Stanley Cup Final. Advertisement The Oilers lost their cool against the Panthers on Monday night. It's a highly emotional series, to this is understandable to an extent. However, now that Florida knows they can get in Edmonton's head, the Oilers must tread carefully the rest of this series. The Oilers are two games from having their season end in the ultimate heartbreak. Last season was a crushing loss without question. Having that fate repeat itself this year may go beyond crushing for this group. Let's see how the team responds in Game 4 at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida.
