Used tires set on fire outside of DeKalb County business, officials say
DeKalb County Fire Rescue are on the scene of a business fire, Channel 2 Action News has learned.
Fire officials say just before 10 p.m., they received a call about a possible tire shop at Covington Drive and Midway Road.

When they arrived, they found used tires outside of the business were set on fire and spread to the structure. Capt. Jaeson Daniels, DKFR PIO says it is unclear if the business was operable.
The fire has been extinguished, according to Capt. Daniels.
A Channel 2 Action News photographer says DeKalb County Police are on scene and have a man in custody on scene.

Channel 2 Action News has reached out to DKPD to learn more about the person in custody and if the person was involved in the fire being set.

Man accused of causing wrong-way crash on I-75 was driving without valid license, court records say
A man, accused of driving the wrong way on Interstate 75 and causing a crash, appeared in court Tuesday. Law enforcement tried to deploy stop sticks to disable the vehicle, but they were unsuccessful. Then a passenger that was in the bed of the truck, identified as 49-year-old Thomas Downey, began throwing wood from the bed of the truck. 'We have officers flying past this vehicle while wood is being thrown at them, to get in front and start breaking down and locking down intersections,' Major Jeremy Roy said in a press conference Monday. Collins then, according to law enforcement, began driving east in the westbound lanes of Route 35 before following a ramp the wrong way and driving south on northbound I-75. 'I believe some of these suspects are doing this intentionally to think that we're going to back off and we're just not going to do that anymore,' Roy said. The wrong-way crash happened before law enforcement could stop Collins. Collins is now in jail after entering a 'not guilty' plea in court, facing charges of vehicular assault, obstructing official business and failure to comply with an officer. All while driving without a valid driver's license. Collins appeared in court from jail by video. The judge set his bond at $20,000 without the ability to pay 10% of the bond as bail, meaning he would have to pay the full amount in cash to be released and placed on electronic monitoring as his case moves forward. EXCLUSIVE: Union City man saves woman from car explosion: ‘She would have died'
A Union City man who rescued a woman from a burning car said he had just seconds before the car exploded. 'I kept stepping over the flames,' Michael Craig told Channel 2's Audrey Washington on Tuesday. 'When the car crashed here, I came and ran right here,' Craig explained. Craig said on Monday evening, he heard a crash, ran outside, and saw the unthinkable -- a burning car in his neighbor's Rosewood Place home in Union City. 'I just saw somebody in the car, and that it was on fire,' Craig said. Fairburn firefighters posted video of the scene on their Facebook page. Fire officials said it appeared the driver somehow lost control before she slammed into the house. Craig said the driver seemed disoriented. 'Her window was down, and then she rolled it back up. And I said, 'Your car is on fire, don't do that, don't do that!' So, I had her throw me the keys and I hit the key fob to unlock the car,' Craig told Washington. 'By that time, her feet had caught on fire, and a guy got a fire extinguisher, and he sprayed her feet, and we carried her across the street,' Craig explained. The driver is now recovering. Craig said he can only imagine what could have happened. 'If I didn't come outside, she would have died. She would've burned in that car,' Craig said. 'So, you saved her life?' Washington asked. 'I did,' Craig answered. Neighbors said the homeowners are staying with family. Channel 2 Action News is working to get an update on the driver's condition.

Former school staffer who pleaded guilty to sexual relationship with student sentenced to prison
A former teacher at a prominent Catholic high school in Ohio accused of having a sexual relationship with a student has been sentenced. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] According to our news partner WCPO, Emily Nutley was sentenced to spend three years in prison for each count of sexual battery, and her sentences will run concurrently. In April, Nutley, 43, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery of a student. When she is released, Nutley will have to register as a tier 3 sex offender, WCPO says. Nutley was a supervisor of a program designed to help St. Xavier High School students struggling academically in fall 2023. According to Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers, the relationship occurred with a 17-year-old student assigned to the program. Powers said Nutley and the student engaged in sexual activities on the school's campus, including after hours in her office at the school and one additional time off campus. 'When the victim attempted to stop the encounters, Nutley continued to contact the victim via text messages,' Powers said. St. X administrators brought the sexual relationship to light during an internal investigation. Springfield Township police investigated the allegations, which led to charges of six counts of sexual battery. Prosecutors believe the 17-year-old was the only victim.
