"There have been corrections, and we felt like there has been a good reaction to those corrections. But clearly, other times, we haven't felt that way, and we've made it very clear with our statements.
"But I can only see a way forward and getting better, because this year has certainly been frustrating for the most part. So let's see if it improves, and maybe today's press release from the FIA is already a sign of the intentions of making everything a bit clearer."
George Russell
George Russell emphasized that the FIA's efforts make no difference to the drivers. He added:
"Obviously, this is maybe more transparency for you, but for us, it doesn't really change anything.
"I think it is positive that you have those papers to understand what they are working towards. I think we'll have to see in due course. There have obviously been some small changes in the last couple of months, positively."
Lewis Hamilton
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton claimed that the document would not change anything about the way he drives. He said:
"I'm not driving to these guidelines, if I'm really honest, I'm just driving what I feel naturally. But, of course, the FIA stewards have a tough job. Every racing manoeuvre looks different.
"I think having some sort of boundary is good. I've not really had any problems in terms of they've not affected me so far.
"Different people come in, and different people come up with different things, year on year, and some of them are good. Some of them are not so good. I don't want to judge it just yet."
Pierre Gasly
Alpine's Pierre Gasly acknowledged that the FIA was working on the grey areas in the regulations. He added:
"To me, it's clear on how hard you can race and the limit of it.
"Obviously, as drivers, you always take it right up to the limit and try to use any grey area that you can. But I think step by step, we're reducing these grey areas. And I think it's, at least to me, it's very clear on what you can do and can't do."
Oscar Piastri
Oscar Piastri pointed out that the document contains guidelines, but the stewards will be in charge of handing out the penalties. He explained:
"I think the first important thing to point out is that they are guidelines. They're not set-in-stone rules.
"Trying to put in words every single racing scenario is impossible. So, it's a very difficult job. I think these guidelines provide the Stewards with some guidelines on what should be acceptable and what's not.
"Obviously, there are still degrees of factors that can't really be written down. Every situation is different, but I think it at least gives us as drivers some clarity on what is and isn't allowed.
"There have probably been some tweaks since they came out — I can't remember when they came out exactly, but maybe in the last 18 months or so.
"It's just important that people don't treat them as black and white — this is what needs to happen, this is what isn't going to happen — because even if you wrote 10 pages of lines and a driver's going to find a grey area just from the situation you end up in.
"So I think it's important to recognise that and not jump to conclusions like, "it says this in this sentence, so this is what should happen." It's still in the stewards' hands."
Max Verstappen plainly stated that he "hadn't seen" the guidelines since he was "busy."

Let's get this out of the way: F1: The Movie is the kind of action-packed fun you'd expect of a summer blockbuster. If you've never followed Formula 1 racing or only briefly known about it, like Netflix's Drive To Survive, it may be your gateway into becoming a fan. As Top Gun ultimately became a commercial tool for recruiting people into the Navy, F1: The Movie is pure Hollywood, designed to market F1 to the masses. WARNING: SPOILERS For fans of F1, those who race, and the media that covers it, F1: The Movie could come as a disappointment. Where movies like the 1966 John Frankenheimer classic Grand Prix, or more recently Ron Howard's Rush, feel more parts documentary combined with drama, F1: The Movie is one part Days Of Thunder, one part The Natural, and one part Major League. The storyline and the reality of what happens behind the scenes and on the track in Formula 1 begin at the start and don't end until the credits. What is irrefutably compelling and will keep most race fans engaged is the eye-popping on-track sequences and state-of-the-art camera placement that not only makes one feel like they're on the cars, but inside the eyes of the principal racing characters in the film. Given that sign-off came from the FIA, F1, Liberty Media, with Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff producing, the movie's incredible backdrop of actual race weekend access with real drivers like Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclec, and more in cameos, gives the feel of it being at the F1 race schedule. In at least one scene, the movie recreates Lewis Hamilton's 2023 Mexico Grand Prix overtake of Charles Leclerc, replacing Hayes for Hamilton. Directed by Top Gun: Maverick's Joseph Kosinski, Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, an aged driver that was seen as an F1 prodigy with Lotus in the '90s but due to a tragic accident at the 1993 Spanish GP, has become washed up (somehow Pitt's outstanding driving as part of the winning the LMGT3 class at the 24 Hours of Daytona in the opening scenes keeps him labeled as 'washed up', but I digress). Now living out of a van, Hayes gets contacted by F1 team owner Rubin Cervantes, played by Javier Bardem, about a seat opening with his struggling fictitious APXGP team. From the jump, this is where Hollywood and reality diverge. Pitt is box office gold. Perhaps it's the lack of young action stars, but Pitt's role is following in the footsteps of Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise, as older stars still make moviegoers believe they can excel far beyond their prime. Pitt is age 61. While he's spent time behind the wheel in race cars – most recently taking laps in the 2023 MCL60 McLaren F1 car at Circuit Of The Americas (COTA) – the notion that Pitt would ever be in the shape needed to race at the top levels required for Formula 1 is a fantastic leap. The current trend is to pluck drivers in their teens from F2 and develop them. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso is currently the oldest driver on the grid at 43. Hence, the analogy of Robert Redford's role as Roy Hobbs in 1984's The Natural comes to mind: a young prodigy is beset by tragedy and emerges as an aged athlete to resurrect their career. While the analytics and high-tech aspects of Formula 1 are touched on, the actual race strategy falls into the realm of the 'wild maverick upends the team and F1 with his driving antics.' Early on, Pitt's Sonny Hayes makes intentional contact with other cars and the barriers to purposely bring out the safety car to help teammate Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, get the inferior APXGP car closer to the pack on restarts. If the FIA stewards are trigger-happy with doling out penalties in the real F1, Hayes and the APXGP team would be suspended and fined off the grid. At one point, Hayes pits for a tire change, and refuses to leave the box when the team has opted for a hard tire strategy over the driver's stubborn demand for softs. A full 30 seconds later, the team relents, Hayes gets his softs, and off he goes. No driver could do this and not be sent packing the second they were out of the car. While F1: The Movie is going to be a great marketing vehicle to bring in fans, for the industry, it plays hard against the role of women in the paddock. It's Brad Pitt. It's a summer blockbuster. Like the aforementioned Days Of Thunder, there has to be a love interest, and it's here that the plot sees Hayes and APXGP technical director Kate McKenna, played by Irish actor Kerry Condon, make the connection. While there have been cases of personnel that work with drivers form romantic relationships (in IndyCar the late Dan Wheldon married Susie Behm who worked for Keystone Marketing doing PR work for Jim Beam, which sponsored his car at the time), the notion that a romantic fling between a driver and technical director would be completely off-limits. And early in the racing sequences, tire-gunner Jodie, played by Callie Cooke, makes what seems like a rookie mistake that only the sage male lead in Pitt can help her overcome her lack of confidence and shine. It's here that the movie undermines F1's efforts to lure women into the sport. It may all play well on the screen with regular moviegoers, but it does a disservice to F1's sincere efforts to bring diversity to the paddock. So, is F1: The Movie like the real Formula 1? Of course not. It is a highly entertaining movie that, due to the incredible driving scenes, is a must-see at the theater. It has a chance at being one of – if not the – top box office draws of the summer. It will undoubtedly make new fans of Formula 1 and open-wheel racing, which is great for the sport. However, the movie is anything but documentary material. If F1: The Movie is the gateway drug to the world of Formula 1, the education of these new fans will be a long-standing part of the equation.

Kids, I have to admit something. I'm a shameless sports movie fan. Add a weepy ending, and I'll see a flick multiple times. Well, F1® The Movie hits theaters this week, combining not just one, but two of my favorite things. I fell hard for Formula 1 more than a decade ago and still love it. Is this highbrow sports movie on pace to win the championship? Or is this set for a 'DNF' at the box office? Read on. F1® The Movie F1® The Movie follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a journeyman driver recruited by an old friend (Javier Bardem) to lead a struggling Formula One team. There are only two problems. The car is a beast, and the team's B driver (Damson Idris) is young, headstrong and desperately in need of mentoring. Kerry Condon and Tobias Menzies costar in the film. Joseph Kosinski directs F1® The Movie from a script by Ehren Kruger. Friends, sometimes a movie comes along that leaves you stumped. It leaves you scratching your head, wondering just how to interpret it. That's my long way of saying, F1® The Movie, surprisingly, is less of a racing movie and more of a Formula One film, and everything that entails. Kosinski showed audiences how good he is with action sequences while directing Top Gun: Maverick . I was intrigued. Kosinski directing F1 racing sequences in IMAX? Count me in. RELATED: Bring Her Back Spoiler Review Inside Baseball Truthfully, the impressive racing sequences aren't taken as far as they can go. Racing takes a back seat to the F1 world and all its complexities. We hear about tire strategies, we see aerodynamic engineering, DRS and there's so much about FIA rules. So much. This is all to say that F1® The Movie is very 'Inside Baseball.' It goes without saying that fans of the sport are certain to enjoy this one. Luckily, the film spent a lot of time shooting in and around the Grand Prix circuit. This is sure to be candy for F1 fans. It's fan fiction in the best way possible, thanks to the dozens of familiar names and faces who will be instantly recognizable to anyone following Formula One. With all this being said, though, I really struggle to see the joy here for non-F1 people. Even the racing sequences are structured less like an action film and more like Formula One TV coverage or a video game. Don't get me wrong, there are racing sequences, but I was left wanting more — especially with all the emphasis the film's marketing placed on IMAX. If you have Abu Dhabi and Las Vegas at your disposal for nighttime races, use them. Wow me. Unfortunately, it's never quite as impressive as it realistically could be. RELATED: Movie Review: From the World of John Wick: Ballerina A Change of Pace Switching gears, F1® The Movie brings Brad Pitt a very interesting change of pace. The actor is one of the few remaining old-school 'movie stars.' You go to a 'Brad Pitt movie.' He's identifiable across the generations. In Pitt's hands, Sonny Hayes is a gritty and grizzled old driver, and there's a very real sense that the sun is going down on his story. As I watched, I found myself immediately reminded of films like True Grit and The Shootist from the late 1960s and early 1970s. These movies came as the sun set on John Wayne's career. At that time, the once dynamic action movie lead was moving a little slower, and there was the very real feeling that he wasn't quite the main character in these stories anymore. This was a man whose action movie days were behind him. The world he knew had passed him by. RELATED: Movie Review: The Phoenician Scheme While Pitt isn't quite in the same stage of life as Wayne in those classic films, there's a similar sense of melancholy at play here. This feels like a change for Pitt. There's a sense of self-awareness that his star persona needs to transition, and he's beginning to embrace his inner grizzled old man. Give those of us who remember Legends of the Fall your thoughts during this difficult time. Melodrama The main issue plaguing F1® The Movie , though, revolves around Kruger's script. For much of the movie, the story is comfortable with its easy, almost slice-of-life narrative. As mentioned, this is Formula One fan fiction. However, as the movie slides into act three, it suddenly veers sharply into melodramatic territory. We all know sports movies. Melodrama is not a rarity in this genre. However, the emotional plot twist happens so late into this two and a half hour movie that it hardly feels needed. The stakes feel manufactured, and by that point in the story, the twist serves only to distract from this interesting world. RELATED: Movie Review: Materialists When all is said and done, I'm going to be watching with interest how F1® The Movie does this weekend. I'm struggling to write this review because friends, I am biased. I'm a Formula 1 fangirl going back more than a decade. However, I am also a realist. F1® The Movie looks on the surface to be a racing film, when in truth, it's an F1 movie with all the 'inside baseball' rules and jargon that come with it. I can't say that F1® The Movie will be an easy sit for those not well-versed in Formula One; however, you never know, try it out and you might be a fan.
