Cork City confirm appointment of new boss as ex-Aston Villa coach gets the nod

Cork City have confirmed the appointment of Ipswich Town defender Gerard Nash as their new manager.
The 38-year-old has taken over from Tim Clancy after a spell in the Swedish top-flight as assistant manager of GAIS.
Clancy announced his sudden and shock departure from the role just hours after last weekend's defeat to Derry City.
The club moved quickly to recruit a replacement and Nash, a Leixlip native who played for Ipswich before injury ended his career at the age of 20, was linked with the post almost immediately.
Nash began his coaching career shortly after his playing days were ended, working in the Ipswich academy.
He had spells in charge of their Under-18 and Under-23 teams, before moving to the FAI as a High Performance Coach.

In 2022 he landed the Under-18s head coach job at Aston Villa, and he remained there until last summer when he joined GAIS.
Nash said: 'I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed as the new Men's First Team Manager at Cork City FC.
'Everyone in Ireland knows the history that the club has, its fantastic support base, and the potential within the existing players.
'I have watched a lot of the league this season from afar, and I have no doubt that there is so much more we can deliver.
'Everyone in the league knows that Cork City are one of the biggest clubs in the country and Turner's Cross is a great place to watch a game of football.
'I know we have quality in the dressing room, and I cannot wait to get started.'
Leesiders owner Dermot Usher came under fire from some fans in the wake of Clancy's departure, with the former boss citing a lack of resources as one of the reasons behind his exit.
He reacted to the Nash appointment, saying: 'I am very pleased to welcome Ger to the club.
'He has a long and very impressive track record as a coach, and he really impressed us with his thoughts on taking on the role.
'From speaking to him, I know how motivated he is to take on the job, and I know he will give it everything he has.
'Everyone at the club wants to see us improve and begin to climb the table, and I share Ger's belief that we have the talent in our dressing room to improve.'
Nash will watch Friday's game away to St Patrick's Athletic from the stands, as Liam Kearney and Greg Yelverton will take charge.

Former Cork and Bohs star wants English club move after rejecting SPL stay

Dan Casey is looking to pursue a move to an English club after rejecting an offer to stay at Motherwell. Former Cork City and Bohs defender Casey, 27, was with the Steelmen since February 2023 and played 85 times for the club since initially moving on a short-term deal. However the club has confirmed that Casey has decided to move on, having turned down a new deal with the SPL outfit. His loss is a blow as Casey played 41 times last term - more than any other player at the club - and with the club currently looking for a new manager, following Michael Wimmer's departure last month. 'My time with Motherwell has come to an end," said Casey. "I've loved every minute of being here. 'Some of my favourite football memories were made here and I'll always be grateful for that. "A huge thank you to all the Motherwell staff, my teammates and especially the fans for everything.'
