Travel expert shares his 'most important hack' for never getting lost on holiday

Ever found yourself hopelessly lost while on holiday? It's a real dampener, particularly if you're on a tight schedule.
Getting lost might lead to serendipitous discoveries, but not when you're against the clock or want to make the most your time abroad.
This is where travel expert Neil Atkinson, the brains behind Luxury Group Stay, steps in with his useful hack to ensure you never lose your way - and it involves a bit of a throwback approach.
Neil divulged: "Downloading an offline map of the area you're travelling to is one of the most important travel hacks I always recommend. It's completely free and can save you hours of stress, whether you're exploring the Lake District or wandering through Barcelona."
With an offline map downloaded, data issues won't derail your adventure. Just remember to grab it while you've got web access.
Neil advised: "I always tell people to do it before leaving home, or at least while still on hotel Wi-Fi.", reports the Mirror.
Admittedly, there are some downsides, albeit trivial ones. Neil mentioned: "You'll only get driving directions when offline, not public transport routes, and you won't see real-time traffic updates."
The good news is that offline maps don't your memory storage, leaving you plenty of space for even the vastest metropolises.
Neil's parting wisdom focuses on preparation: "Make sure to download a wider area than you think you'll need. Better to have too much map than too little when you're in the middle of nowhere!".
If you need a map when you're off the grid, just take these straightforward steps:

Ruthless Ryanair axes all flights from one of Europe's 'most expensive' airports

Ryanair has axed all of its flights from Maastricht Airport in the Netherlands, as it continues to battle against aviation levies across Europe. The budget airline recently announced that all of its routes from the Dutch airport will be cancelled from October 26. Ryanair criticised the airport's costs and the country's rising aviation taxes, branding Maastricht one of Europe's 'most expensive' airports and arguing that these factors will 'irreparably damage Dutch connectivity'. Maastricht Airport introduced an eco-tax back in 2021, which resulted in Ryanair facing a bill of almost €30 per passenger. The mass cancellation will see routes to popular destinations such as Alicante, Bari, Girona, Porto, and Zadar removed - resulting in the loss of 150,000 seats per annum, as well as five direct connections. Ryanair's CCO Jason McGuinness expressed disappointment with the decision, blaming Maastricht Airport for its 'soaring' taxes which have increased by 275 per cent in the last four years. "Ryanair continues to grow traffic (this year from 200m to 206m) by offering unbeatable low fares to customers across Europe at airports that have low access costs," he stated. "Maastricht's sky-high costs are damaging its connectivity. [This is] evidenced by the Airport's failure to recover its traffic post-Covid, lagging far behind the rest of Europe at just 50 per cent of pre-Covid traffic in 2024 – a figure set to fall even further following Ryanair's exit," reports the Mirror. Ryanair has a history of pulling flights from airports in response to unwanted fees. Earlier this year, the airline announced an 18 per cent reduction in its summer traffic in Spain, resulting in the loss of 800,000 seats and 12 routes. It also cancelled all flights to and from Aalborg, after Denmark confirmed a 50DKK (€6.70) fee would be applied to all passengers departing from Denmark, to be paid by airlines.

Woman's naked body discovered on notorious party island in popular holiday hotspot

More info The naked body of a British holidaymaker was discovered by a local resident on the infamous 'Full Moon Party' island this morning. Police hurried to the scene and found the 54-year-old washed up on a beach in Koh Phangan, southern Thailand. She was found lying face-down wearing only an orange bra, with her underwear having floated ashore nearby, reports the Mirror. Officers reported no signs of assault on her body. The Full Moon Party, which originated on the island of Ko Phangan in 1985, occurs every month on Haad Rin Beach - on the night of, before, or after every full moon. This year's event is scheduled for next week on June 10. The woman was transported to the Koh Phangan Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police Lieutenant Pongnaphat Somboon of the Koh Phangan Police Station stated: "An X-ray of the victim's body found a large amount of sand and water in her lungs. We believe the cause of death was drowning. We will call the British Embassy to notify her relatives." The woman was discovered by local resident Theerapong while he was out for a stroll in the area at 6.30am. Authorities said the woman had been on the island for about a month and was residing in a nearby bungalow. She intended to check out of the accommodation on June 11 - one day after the island's Full Moon Party. Staff noted the woman frequently consumed alcohol and it's been reported she injured her head after a tumble outside a supermarket on June 2. Locals came to her aid, escorting her back to her accommodation, where she declined any medical help. Upon discovering her remains, officers conducted a room check and found her possessions undisturbed. The woman is thought to have last been observed enjoying a swim at the beach on Monday evening. Police Lieutenant Pongnaphat commented: "We do not believe there is anything suspicious but CCTV images will be checked to ensure that the death was accidental." Fatalities sadly continue to loom over sought-after spots such as Phuket, Pattaya, and Krabi due to potent rip currents, inadequate swimming skills, and ignoring safety signage. Harry to be 'even angrier in new royal row' if latest move goes wrong

Prince Harry's potential new career move could ignite a fresh Royal controversy, an expert has suggested. While Meghan has been enjoying the spotlight with the launch of her As Ever business, her husband seems to have taken a more subdued role as the couple appear to be pursuing separate career paths. However, it is rumoured that this could change as Harry seeks a 'new purpose'. Reports suggest that Harry might be launching his own commercial venture in the coming months, alongside focusing on his Invictus Games Foundation. Details about the potential venture remain undisclosed and will be one of the first tasks for the Sussex's newly assembled team of advisors. However, former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond has warned that if Harry chooses to pursue a profit-making path, it could be fraught with difficulties. Speaking to the Mirror, she said: "Personally, I think this commercial route opens him up to all sorts of accusations of trading on his royal status which would make him an even angrier young man than at present. I think Harry is still trying to figure out where he goes from here. By normal standards, he's a very rich man, but life in Montecito doesn't come cheap, especially with all the security costs he deems necessary." The question arises whether Prince Harry is content with Meghan being the main earner while he focuses on their children and charity work. Some might wonder if he feels compelled to also engage in commercial activities, reports the Mirror. Prince Harry has been actively promoting his charitable endeavours in recent public appearances. He was spotted earlier this month at a Las Vegas event championing the Diana Award, and just this week, he made a surprise appearance at a travel conference in Shanghai, delivering a speech on sustainable travel as Travalyst's co-founder. Jennie commented: "There's nothing wrong with being a stay-at-home dad and using his influence to help charities around the world. He's brilliant at interacting with people and at just being Harry. He should perhaps stick to what he's born to, trained for and truly good at." Harry's visit to China coincided with his father King Charles's arrival in Canada for a significant tour, marking Harry's first time in China. However, Jennie noted: "Fortunately it seems not to have overshadowed Charles and Camilla's trip to Canada. In fact, it seems to have made very little news at all. If the idea was to garner as much publicity for the cause as possible, it would seem to have fallen rather short. "There was no advance information about it and not much of a splash when he was there. But he is clearly employed by Travalyst to make keynote speeches like this, and I'm sure he made a good job of it. The timing of the conference would have been coincidental to the King's trip to Canada, certainly not deliberate. "However, the irony of flying across the world to promote sustainable, environmentally friendly travel is hard to ignore. Surely a video speech would have been more ethical? "The same criticism could be lobbed at William flying around the world to host the Earthshot Awards but sometimes it just raises the profile in a way nothing else could. I'm not sure that Harry's presence did the same."
