Eagles RB AJ Dillon joins the fan club of a rising WNBA star
A rising WNBA star's grit has earned the unexpected support of Eagles RB AJ Dillon.
Sometimes, nothing needs to be done other than offering a round of applause. The WNBA must be given credit for the job it has done and for growing its game. Some of the new stars have much to do with that, as they have helped introduce professional women's basketball to a larger audience. Who knows? We may even see a few more jerseys at Philadelphia Eagles games.
Speaking of jerseys, one of the new Birds made sure to grab his, and he had no issue with letting everyone know about it.

If you haven't been paying attention to the sports world these past few months, here's what you missed recently. The Eagles, already being home to the great Saquon Barkley, added a sledgehammer in A.J. Dillon.
So, now, they have 'Saquads' and 'Quadzilla' on their roster.
Meanwhile, in 'The W, ' the Indiana Fever continues to catch fire and grab headlines. Their recent tussle with the Connecticut Sun brought with it multiple heated altercations, including some pushing and shoving that sent shockwaves through social media following a hard foul by Sophie Cunningham on Jacy Sheldon.
Since embracing the 'enforcer' role, Cunningham added new fans and more social media followers. She recently saw an uptick in TikTok support. A.J. Dillon bought a jersey and made sure everyone knew about it.
So far, there has been no word as to whether or not Cunningham returned the favor by buying A.J.'s Eagles jersey. Check back for updates.
Like Dillon, Cunningham is enjoying her first season on a new roster in a new city. This is her first season teaming with Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, DeWanna Barber, and Indiana's loaded roster.
She was traded to the Fever this past January after spending her first six WNBA seasons with the Phoenix Mercury. She also spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons with the WNBL's Melbourne Boomers.

WNBA Champion Dealt Disappointing News on Saturday
WNBA Champion Dealt Disappointing News on Saturday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. On the heels of one of the most dominant starts in franchise history, the New York Liberty received sobering news on Saturday. Advertisement All-Star center Jonquel Jones will miss approximately four to six weeks after re-spraining her right ankle in Thursday's loss to the Phoenix Mercury. Jones's extended absence comes at a pivotal juncture for a Liberty squad that burst out of the gate with a historic undefeated 9-0 record through May and early June but has begun to show cracks in recent weeks. New York saw its first loss of the season a week ago against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, and then just days ago, against the Mercury. With the WNBA All-Star game exactly four weeks away, the Liberty won't see Jones in the lineup for at least the next nine games, with the potential to miss all of July games. A native of Freeport, The Bahamas, Jones is a five-time All-Star, three-time rebounding leader and was named WNBA MVP in 2021 after averaging 19.4 points and a league-leading 11.2 rebounds per game. Advertisement Last season, she played a driving force role in New York's first-ever WNBA title, earning Finals MVP honors by scoring 17 points in Game 5. Beyond her league accolades, Jones has a decorated overseas resume, capturing championships and individual honors in Korea, Russia, and China during WNBA off-seasons. After re-injuring the same ankle midway through the second quarter against Phoenix, she exited in a walking boot and underwent imaging that revealed no structural damage. With Jones sidelined for the next month and a half, the Liberty face a steep challenge to maintain their Eastern Conference leadership through the All-Star break.
