Look: Pilgrims 'stone the devil' as Hajj nears end in Saudi Arabia
Pilgrims were performing the last major ritual of the Hajj - the "stoning of the devil" - on Friday, as Muslims around the globe celebrated the beginning of the Eid Al Adha holiday. From before day break, the 1.6 million-plus pilgrims began throwing seven stones at each of three concrete walls symbolising the devil in the Mina valley, on the outskirts of the holy city of Makkah. | ÙشاÙد ÙØجاج بÙذ اÙÙÙ اÙØراÙ ÙÙÙ ÙرÙÙÙ جÙرة اÙعÙبة. #Ùاس_Øج46 | #Ùاس_عاÙ — Ùاس اÙعاÙ (@SPAregions) June 6, 2025 Droves of pilgrims had already set out from their accommodation in the sprawling tent city in Mina before dawn, taking advantage of the cool temperatures. The ritual commemorates Abraham's stoning of the devil at the three spots where it is said Satan tried to dissuade him from obeying God's order to sacrifice his son. Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels. "Our experience in Mina was easy and simple. We entered and within five minutes we had completed the stoning of the devil at the 'Jamarat'," said 34-year-old Wael Ahmed Abdel Kader, from Egypt, after carrying out the ritual at dawn. Howakita, a pilgrim from Guinea, said the prospect of celebrating Eid in Makkah filled her with joy. "When I threw the stones I felt at ease. I was truly proud," she said. The stoning ritual in the Mina valley was the scene of a fatal stampede in 2015, when 2,300 people were killed in one of the deadliest Hajj disasters. A day earlier, pilgrims converged on Mount Arafat, praying and reciting Koranic verses at the 70-metre (230-foot) rocky rise near Mecca, where the Prophet Mohammed is believed to have given his last sermon. Many climbed the mount despite the searing heat, though numbers had thinned by midday following official warnings for pilgrims to stay inside between 10am and pm.

Eid Al Adha Escapes: 7 free nature escapes to beat the city blues on Eid day
Staying in the UAE for the long weekend this Eid Al Adha? Skip the crowded malls and predictable staycation spots – the real magic lies just beyond the city limits. While everyone's scrambling for brunch reservations, you could be kayaking through turquoise mountain waters, walking through whispering mangrove forests, or discovering surreal salt lakes that look straight out of a fantasy novel. Best part? All these experiences come with a price tag of zero dirhams. This Eid, trade skyscrapers for starry skies and traffic noise for birdsong at these breathtaking natural escapes – all within easy reach of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. No flights needed, just your sense of adventure and maybe a picnic basket. Here's where to find that 'I can't believe this is the UAE' feeling without leaving the country: Al Wathba Salt Lake Just a short drive from Abu Dhabi, this otherworldly landscape has taken social media by storm. The lake's crystalline waters contrast dramatically with its mushroom-like salt formations, creating optical illusions that change with the sunlight. Arrive at sunrise or sunset for the most magical lighting, when the salt crystals sparkle like diamonds. Don't forget your camera – the geometric salt patterns make for extraordinary photographs that will leave your followers in awe. Hatta Dam Nestled in the Hajar Mountains, this man-made reservoir offers some of the most spectacular scenery in the UAE. The vibrant turquoise waters against the rugged mountain backdrop create a scene reminiscent of European alpine lakes. Rent a kayak (available for reasonable prices) or simply enjoy the view from one of the many picnic spots. Adventurous visitors can hike up to the famous Hatta Hill sign for panoramic views that stretch all the way to Oman on clear days. Jubail Mangrove Park This protected ecosystem showcases the UAE's delicate coastal beauty. The 2km boardwalk takes you through dense mangrove forests where you might spot flamingos wading in the shallows or turtles surfacing for air. Visit during high tide to see the mangroves in their full glory, when the water completely submerges their intricate root systems. The park offers free entry on weekdays, making it an ideal weekday escape during the Eid Al Adha break. Snoopy Island View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ash Young (@adoredecordxb) Named for its distinctive shape resembling the beloved cartoon character, this marine sanctuary offers some of the best snorkeling in the country. The shallow waters near the shore are perfect for beginners, while more experienced swimmers can explore the deeper areas teeming with colorful coral formations. Keep an eye out for the resident sea turtles that frequently surface near the island's eastern side. Al Hayer Forest This unexpected green oasis in the middle of the desert is one of the UAE's best-kept secrets. The dense concentration of ghaf and samar trees provides welcome shade during hot days, making it an ideal spot for a family picnic. As evening falls, the forest comes alive with the sounds of desert wildlife – you might even spot an Arabian hare, desert fox or a camel if you're quiet and patient. Love Lakes & Moon Lake The interlocking heart-shaped lakes of Al Qudra are even more enchanting in person than in photographs. Walk along the sandy paths that wind between the lakes, or rent a bike to explore the surrounding desert landscape. Nearby Moon Lake, shaped like its namesake, offers a more secluded experience. Time your visit for early morning to potentially spot the graceful Arabian oryx that have been reintroduced to the area. Wadi Shees This mountain valley offers a rare opportunity to experience flowing freshwater in the UAE. The well-maintained walking trail follows an ancient falaj (irrigation system) through date palm groves and past traditional stone houses. For the more adventurous, side trails lead to hidden pools and waterfalls that are particularly refreshing after rare rainy periods. Pro Tips for Your Eid Nature Adventure Early mornings (6-9am) offer the most comfortable temperatures and best wildlife viewing opportunities. Many locations have limited facilities, so bring plenty of water, snacks, and sun protection. Weekdays are significantly less crowded than weekends during holiday periods. Consider combining visits to nearby locations (like Love Lakes and Al Qudra Lakes) for a full day of exploration. This Eid Al Adha, embrace the spirit of adventure and discovery by exploring these natural treasures. Whether you're seeking peaceful reflection, family bonding time, or thrilling outdoor activities, the UAE's diverse landscapes offer something for everyone. Pack your sense of wonder along with your picnic basket, and prepare to be amazed by the natural beauty that exists just beyond our urban centers. – For more on luxury lifestyle, news, fashion and beauty follow Emirates Woman on Facebook and Instagram Images: Supplied & Feature Image: Instagram

Eid Al Adha in UAE: Final preparations underway across neighbourhoods
As the sun sets on the eve of Eid Al Adha, a quiet buzz of anticipation sweeps through neighbourhoods across the UAE. From bustling kitchens to decorated living rooms, families are putting the final touches on preparations for a holiday rooted in faith, sacrifice, and togetherness. Vans filled with livestock made their final deliveries earlier on Thursday, June 5. Farmers and butchers say everything is in place for the Qurbani — the ritual sacrifice that honours Prophet Ibrahim's unwavering faith. 'It's a solemn moment, but also one of great meaning for us,' said Faisal Mohammed, a resident of Al Ain. As Eid draws near, the local supermarket comes alive with a festive buzz. The aisles are stacked high with dates, nuts, sweets, and dried fruits — each bundle wrapped in bright, cheerful packaging that seems to echo the excitement in the air. Near the entrance, trays of baklava, maamoul, and kunafa tempt shoppers with their golden layers and rich aromas, impossible to pass without a second glance. Families move through the store in joyful chaos — with kids darting ahead, elders offering suggestions, and shopping carts filled to the brim. The meat section is packed, as everyone queues patiently to get the freshest cuts for their holiday feasts. Over by the spice racks, the air is thick with the warm, familiar scent of cardamom, cinnamon, saffron, and cloves. Fresh herbs and produce — mint, coriander, lemons, green chilies — are disappearing fast. Banners in gold proudly wish everyone 'Eid Mubarak'. Every corner seems to hold something special — gift hampers, perfume deals, cooking sets, and shelves of prayer mats and attar. Kids linger wide-eyed near the toy section, clutching candy, while their parents carefully pick out final touches for their homes and dining tables. Palestinians in Dubai mark Eid with gratitude and reflection Meanwhile, an aid convoy from the UAE has reached Gaza, carrying more than 1,000 tonnes of essential food supplies to support families in need. The shipment is part of the UAE's ongoing Gallant Knight 3 operation, launched by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to provide relief to civilians in Gaza. According to state news agency WAM, the convoy delivered around 1,039 tonnes of food and flour, aiming to help approximately 1.3 million people facing severe hardship. For Jordanian-Palestinian resident Sajida Al Bashir, this Eid is a mix of gratitude and concern. She said, 'My twin sister lives in Palestine, and it's hard knowing the mood there is so heavy,' she said. 'Here in the UAE, there's a festive spirit in the air, but it's very different over there. Still, no matter what's happening, we believe in celebrating Eid in a simple, meaningful way — to thank Allah for all His blessings and to keep others in our prayers — especially the unprivileged.' Bashir added, 'We remember those who can't celebrate Eid because of their difficult circumstances. One thing I always look forward to is giving Eidiya to the children in our neighbourhood — and to my son's friends who'll be stopping by. It's a small gesture, but 'giving' brings great joy.' Little hands ready to receive Eidiya Across the country, little hands are ready to receive Eidiya — the cherished tradition where elders gift money to the young. 'My little niece and nephew have been practicing how to say 'Eid Mubarak' all week just to charm the family into giving them extra,' laughs Saman Haziq, who will be visiting her brother's house tomorrow. But it's not just the children counting down. In homes and prayer rooms, the older generation readies for Eid prayers at dawn. Many will step out early, dressed in fresh clothes, eager to greet neighbours and friends, and share warm embraces after the sermon. 'Eid is typically a family-centric celebration. We usually complete our grocery shopping several days ahead, taking advantage of various in-store and online offers. I often prepare kebabs, curries, and sheer khurma for the occasion. The day starts with the traditional Eid prayer, followed by calls to family and friends to exchange greetings. Lunch is usually a family-only affair, and in the evening, we might head out to the mall,' said Abu Dhabi resident Zoya Shaikh. Families with loved ones on pilgrimage are feeling particularly blessed. 'My parents called from Makkah — their Hajj was accepted, and they're praying for all of us,' said Latifa Khoury, holding back tears. 'That made this Eid extra special.' Even as the heat lingers — the forecast nearing 45°C — the warmth of the occasion is what people are feeling the most. 'Eid is more than just a day,' said Aliyah Alam in Dubai. 'It's a feeling — of gratitude, of love, and of coming together.'
