Ange feels the Tottenham love too late as underperforming stars show their gratitude after axe falls

Captain Son led the tributes after Daniel Levy sent Postecoglou packing with a £4million payoff following Europa League glory A number of Tottenham stars have paid glowing tributes to Ange Postecoglou after he was sacked by the club. The former Celtic boss was sent on his way with a £4million payoff as owner Daniel Levy decided that a 17th placed Premier League finish wasn't overridden by lifting the Europa League and qualifying for the Champions League. ‌ And despite having a reputation for keeping his distance from his players, the esteem in which at least some of the Spurs squad hold the Aussie was clear from the outpouring of gratitude on social media. ‌ Fans have validly questioned why such gratitude wasn't shown through better performances on the pitch, but there was no doubting the affection from a number of senior players who took to Instagram to praise the departing boss. Skipper Son posted: "Gaffer. You've changed the trajectory of this club. You believed in yourself, and us, since day one and never wavered for a second. Even when others did. "You knew what we were capable of all along. You did it your way. And your way brought this club the best night it's had in decades. We will have those memories for life. "You trusted me with the captaincy. One of the highest honours of my career. It's been an incredible privilege to learn from your leadership up close, I am a better player and a better person because of you. "Ange Postecoglou, you are a Tottenham Hotspur legend forever. Thank you, mate." ‌ Richarlison added: "Mister, massive thanks for helping me out and believing in me during one of the trickiest periods of my career and my life. Everyone who loves the Spurs will remember that Big Ange always bags trophies in his second season. We've made history! Cheers and good luck on your journey! I'll always be rooting for you." Defender Pedro Porro paid tribute to his "mentor," saying: "Thank you for everything, boss. For mentoring me early on, helping me settle into the club, and trusting me out on the pitch. I'll always be grateful for the way you led us, defended us, and kept us going through all the highs and lows. Above everything, you gave us one of the greatest moments in the club's history and for that, you'll always be celebrated. Wishing you all the very best, boss." Finally, goalkeeper Guiglielmo Vicario showed his appreciation for Postecoglou bringing him into the dressing room leadership group. He posted: "Boss, I just want to say a massive thank you for everything you have done for me and for all of us. From that very first call, right from the beginning, you always showed so much belief in me. "Giving me the opportunity to be part of the leadership group... those moments, and many others, will stay with me forever. You are not only a top manager, you are an incredible person to work for, a real leader, a mentor, and someone I'll always look up to. "What we achieved TOGETHER will stay in the history books. Wishing you nothing but success as I know you will go on to achieve more and more. Thank you, Boss. Forever grateful, Vic."

Fabio Wardley reveals the fight he would never agree to and claims he would even ‘take a knee in the first round'

FABIO WARDLEY has floored the baffling suggestion that he could fight his mentor and pal Dillian Whyte. After following all of Wardley's career, we were stunned to hear the idea even mooted from some clumsy pundits. 5 But Wardley told SunSport with a laugh: 'From the second it would be announced, everybody who knows the sport and who knows us, would know it would be fake and not something I would ever do, because of the amount of love, respect and admiration I have for Dills. 'People go on about my story, white-collar, coming from nowhere, sparring Usyk. "But none of that is possible without Dillian at the beginning, giving me all of these opportunities. 'So I would never spit in his face and fight him. 'Even if all the sanctioning bodies called for the fight and somebody was silly enough to put all the money up, I would take a knee in the first round and give him the win.' Ipswich's 30-year-old former recruitment worker and white-collar boxer headlines Portman Road on Saturday night against tough Australian Justis Huni. out to secure a summer showdown with Lawrence Okolie. He has not boxed in England since November 2022 and was supposed to have a rematch with Anthony Joshua in August 2023. 5 FABIO WARDLEY VS JUSTIS HUNI: ALL THE DETAILS YOU NEED AHEAD OF HUGE BOUT But that O2 sell-out was scrapped when Whyte failed a doping test. Whyte has boxed in Gibraltar and Ireland since that big-money clash was binned, landing underwhelming wins. For Wardley, on June 16 his partner is scheduled to give birth to his first child, a bouncing baby girl. For anyone else, the nail-biting fortnight would be a crippling rollercoaster of emotions impossible to combine. But the Suffolk Puncher - who went on an Oleksandr Usyk sparring trip to Ukraine in 2018 when he barely knew how to throw a jab - is loving the chaos. The class act told SunSport: 'June 2025 is going to be a wild month I talk a lot about, for the rest of my life. 'I will be an old man in a rocking chair, telling people about it and wondering how we pulled it off. 'Everything has come together at the same time, it might seem a bit hectic but I wouldn't have it any other way. I thrive on it, I love the chaos.' Nine months ago, the 18-0-1 ace got the wonderful news he would be a dad for the first time. 5 And a few weeks later he got the offer of a lifetime, to headline at his boyhood football club, a chance that some Olympic and world champions never get. It seems like a psychological and logistical nightmare that would be destined for the divorce courts but Team Wardley is way too tight. 'If my little girl is anything like me, then she'll be chilled out and late, which will give me a little bit more time to decompress from the fight,' he grinned. 'The flight date has been moved around a few times but my missus has been unbelievable. 'I have just promised to her that, as soon as Saturday night is over, I am all theirs. 'This week, though, is just my week. I need to be totally focused on me and then it's all on them.' Wardley - who cracked 2020 Olympic bronze winner Frazer Clarke's skull in their one-round rematch in October - somehow combines being a brutal boxer with being a lovely bloke and he insists that won't change with another win or a baby. 'I don't know how parenthood will affect me,' he said. 'I do plan to be the fun-dad though. 'I want mum to do the telling off. I think I will always be driven to push myself in everything, though. 'That's something just innate in me. And I am sure I will need to feed and stoke that fire regularly.' 5 5

Jack Grealish needs regular football for World Cup consideration

Thomas Tuchel loves Jack Grealish but says the out-of-favour Manchester City star needs to find regular football to force his way back into the England reckoning ahead of the World Cup. The 29-year-old has found minutes hard to come by at the Etihad Stadium this season and been overlooked for both squads since the German coach took charge. Advertisement Tuchel said he loved Grealish's personality, courage and quality after leaving him out in March due to a lack of game-time, with the attacking midfielder making just six City appearances since then. City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly set to leave the former Aston Villa player out of his Club World Cup squad and a summer exit appears on the cards. England boss Tuchel said: 'My thoughts are still the same. I love Jack for his personality and of course his talent. 'He is a very unique player who can handle big pressure on the field. He is never shy of pressure. It's the opposite. Advertisement 'He grows in big matches but he's a player who needs minutes and minutes and minutes and simply does not get them for a very long time. That's basically everything. Nothing has changed. 'I have maybe the same information as you that City are thinking of not taking him to the Club World Cup, so he needs to make himself available by playing. I think it's one of his key strengths. 'To go every three days and get better and better with every minute that he has in his legs – that's what is missing, nothing else. 'I have spoken to him after the first international camp and very shortly after the FA Cup final but not since then.' Advertisement There are no City players in England's squad for June's double-header, but nine of the group are heading to the Club World Cup. Tuchel said he was not overthinking that aspect and, just like he did at the squad announcement, stressed that international matters took precedence. Asked if clubs had requested players did not feature in both Saturday's qualifier against Andorra and the Senegal friendly on Tuesday, he said: 'No one has asked me that question. 'I said also many times, I was like 15 years I think in club football, I think I have never asked an international coach what to do and how to use the players. Advertisement 'We have very limited time for ourselves. We have our very own interest also to see a lot of the players that are in camp and maybe even all of the players that are in camp, so we have an own interest to mix the teams. 'But no coach has called me and there was no request from the FA that a club called. 'We know the clubs have a lot of matches and the players go after to the Club World Cup. 'But it can also happen that some players start twice for us, but like I said, we also have an interest to see a lot of players in these two matches, so I think we will not in the end upset anyone.' Another player heading to the Club World Cup is Liam Delap, who is going there with new club Chelsea rather than leading the line for England Under-21s at the Euros. 'It would have been nice for him and for the FA for him to play a big tournament, but that's nowadays football,' said Tuchel, who may not risk Bukayo Saka against Andorra as he recovers from a knock. 'There are some rules and its club first. It would have been nice to do the 21s and would have been nice to see him lead the under-21s as the main striker.'
