
AI advances may threaten women's jobs more than men's
Women may be at a heightened risk for being edged out of their job (or having their duties change) due to AI. According to a new study, jobs disproportionately done by women, especially in higher income countries, are more steadily becoming automated.
The joint study, which comes from the United Nations' International Labour Organization (ILO) and Poland's National Research Institute (NASK), was released today. It assessed the ways in which generative AI is reshaping the world, as well as how it changes the role of human beings.
'We went beyond theory to build a tool grounded in real-world jobs. By combining human insight, expert review, and generative AI models, we've created a replicable method that helps countries assess risk and respond with precision,' said Pawel Gmyrek, ILO senior researcher and lead author, in a statement included in the study.
How AI is changing jobs
The report found that globally about one in four people have a job with generative AI exposure, meaning their jobs had the potential to be performed by AI. Researchers also found a significant contrast between how at-risk women's jobs were versus men's. They found that the jobs that had the greatest risk of being performed by AI made up 9.6% of female employment compared to just 3.5% of jobs typically held by men.
Administrative tasks, most commonly performed in clerical jobs, were at the greatest risk, but jobs in media, software, and finance were also at notable risk, as well.
The researchers noted that rather than AI taking over employees' jobs completely, human roles will, more commonly, evolve with the technology. 'We stress that such exposure does not imply the immediate automation of an entire occupation, but rather the potential for a large share of its current tasks to be performed using this technology,' the report explained.
Shaping the future of work
The study's authors also noted that governments, social dialogue, and worker organizations will be important in determining AI's growing impact on the workforce in the future. 'This index helps identify where GenAI is likely to have the biggest impact, so countries can better prepare and protect workers,' said Marek Troszyński, one of the researchers and a senior expert at NASK.

Intel experimenting with direct liquid cooling for up to 1000W CPUs
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Intel is testing a new way to tackle the growing heat output of its power hungry chips. At its recent Foundry Direct Connect event, the company showcased an experimental package-level water cooling solution designed to more efficiently cool CPUs . Intel has working prototypes for both LGA (Land Grid Array) and BGA (Ball Grid Array) CPUs, with demos using Intel's Core Ultra as well as Xeon server processors. The cooling solution doesn't apply coolant directly to the silicon die. Instead, a specially designed compact cooling block sits atop the package, featuring microchannels made of copper that precisely guide the coolant flow. These channels can be optimized to target specific hotspots on the die, potentially improving heat removal where it matters the most. Intel claims the system can dissipate up to 1,000 watts of heat using standard liquid cooling fluid. That kind of thermal load isn't typical for consumer CPUs, but it could be relevant for high-end AI (Artificial Intelligence) workloads, HPC (High Performance Computing), and workstation applications. Compared to a traditional liquid cooler mounted to a delidded bare die, Intel says this solution can deliver 15–20% better thermal performance. Notably, Intel's approach isn't just a lab experiment. The company has reportedly been working on this technology for years. With rising thermal demands from modern chip designs, Intel is now exploring how to produce this system for real-world deployment. While Intel refines its prototype, the enthusiast community is already experimenting with similar concepts. YouTuber octppus recently modified the heatspreader of an Intel Core i9-14900KS, machining it into a functioning miniature water block. With internal channels carved into the IHS (Integrated Heat Spreader) and sealed under acrylic, the mod somewhat mirrors Intel's concept in DIY fashion. Intel hasn't confirmed when or if this cooling approach will hit mainstream products, but the demonstration is critical for CPU thermal design. As power consumption and package density increase, direct cooling may become a necessity for both professional and enthusiast hardware in the coming future. 3 top ETFs from the London Stock Exchange to consider in June
Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) listed on the London Stock Exchange are a fantastic way to invest in themes inside an ISA. They also give instant exposure to a wide selection of companies, thereby helping to spread risk through diversification. Here are three ETFs spanning cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI) and defence I think have tons of potential and are worth further research. First up is L&G Cyber Security UCITS ETF (LSE: ISPY). This fund holds 41 stocks across the increasingly relevant cybersecurity industry. In recent weeks, Marks and Spencer, Co-op and Harrods have all been hit by cyber attacks. On 27 May, Adidas was the latest firm to have customers' personal information stolen. This highlights how cybersecurity spending is now a necessity rather than a luxury for organisations of all sizes. The fund holds many top stocks in the space, including CrowdStrike, Cloudflare, and Palo Alto Networks. So far in 2025, CrowdStrike and Cloudflare are up 37% and 50% respectively. The ETF's share price is up 56% over the past two years. However, one consequence is that valuations are quite high across much of the portfolio. A risk here then is that the stock market pulls back, reducing the ETF's value in the near term. Over the long term though, I think it's set up for further gains. AI's creating an escalating arms race between cyber attackers (groups and nation states) and the defending companies in this ETF. Sticking with AI, I think the iShares AI Innovation Active UCITS ETF (LSE: IART) is well worth considering. According to McKinsey Global Institute, AI software and services alone are projected to generate $15.5trn-$22.9trn in annual economic value by 2040! As the name suggests, this ETF's invested in firms doing a lot of AI innovation today. Top holdings include chip king Nvidia, Microsoft, which has a large stake in ChatGPT maker OpenAI, and Meta, the social media giant that's using AI to improve targeted ads on Facebook and Instagram. Now, one thing worth pointing out is that this actively-managed ETF was only launched in January. So there's no track record of outperformance to go on, which adds a bit of risk. However, I like that among the 39 holdings there are some smaller innovative names in there. These have the potential to eventually become tech giants in their own right. Examples include cloud-based data firm Snowflake, gaming platform Roblox, and Cloudflare (again). The third fund is the HANetf Future of Defence ETF (LSE: NATO). Since launching in mid-2023, the share price has more than doubled. This ETF has a dual focus. It provides exposure to companies benefitting from both NATO military and cyber defence spending. Top holdings include Germany's Rheinmetall, the UK's BAE Systems, and AI software giant Palantir. While these stocks have been on fire recently, a cut to the US defence budget could hurt their upwards trajectory. Meanwhile, a global recession might lead to lower growth and earnings for some firms in the portfolio. On the other hand, European nations are now committed to spending hundreds of billions on building their long-neglected defence capabilities.
