The Lakers in Los Angeles are trying to enhance their team with stars like
LeBron James
and Luka Doncic, and they're reportedly interested in Boston Celtics center Luke Kornet as a potential new player.
Kornet has had some standout moments, particularly in the 2025 playoffs, making him a hot free-agent target.
This situation creates extra tension for Celtics fans, as the idea of losing a key player to their historic rivals is quite nerve-wracking during the offseason.
Luke Kornet's playoff surge and Boston's financial constraints could pave the way for a Lakers acquisition
During Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Knicks, Luke Kornet put on a fantastic show, scoring 10 points with perfect accuracy, collecting nine rebounds, and achieving a career-high of seven blocks in merely 26 minutes.
This performance highlighted his defensive capabilities and his talent for rising to the challenge when it matters.
During the 2024–25 NBA season, Kornet put up an average of 6.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists each game, boasting a remarkable 66.8% shooting percentage across 73 regular-season games. His playoff performance showcased even more of his skill, as he shot 72.4% from the field.
This offseason, the Boston Celtics are facing major financial hurdles, being more than $40 million over the luxury tax and $20 million into the second apron, which results in significant financial penalties.

With Kornet becoming an unrestricted free agent, the Celtics could have a hard time holding onto him, especially if other teams make more appealing offers.
The Los Angeles Lakers are on the lookout for a dependable center to support LeBron James and Luka Doncic, and they might see Kornet as a perfect match. His skills as a lob threat and rim protector fit right into what the Lakers need. Plus, bringing Kornet on board would not just fill a gap in their lineup but also take away a key player from their rivals, the Celtics.
The Lakers aren't flying solo in their pursuit. It seems the Golden State Warriors have their sights set on Kornet too, aiming to strengthen their frontcourt without adding to their luxury tax concerns.

Luke Kornet has been performing consistently, and with the Celtics facing financial limits, he's a top target for teams like the Lakers. Although getting him might need a solid offer, the advantages he brings on both sides of the court could justify the cost. For Celtics fans, the thought of losing an important player to their historic rivals just adds more stress to the offseason.

Mitchell Starc opens up on not returning to India for IPL: We saw what happened
Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc recently opened up on his decision to not return to India after the resumption of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). The IPL was suspended for a week after Pakistan attacked several parts of India. However, the tournament was resumed on May 17 after the two countries agreed to a several players decided not to return to India due to several reasons. Mitchell Starc, who was representing Delhi Capitals (DC) also pulled out from the last phase of the tournament. The Australia speedster revealed that his focus was shifted to red ball cricket after coming back home as Australia are set to compete in the World Test Championship (WTC) final comfortable with my decision and how I felt about the whole situation and how it was handled. That's why I made my decision post-that, and my focus changed to red-ball cricket for about a week prior to coming over here. Time will tell with repercussions or how it looks with guys that didn't return. But I've had my questions and concerns leading into that game, and obviously, we saw what happened, which played a part in my decision," Strac told Sydney Morning Herald. Furthermore, Starc stressed on his commitment towards Delhi Capitals (DC), saying that he's not someone who would pull out of the tournaments after being signed.'I'm still heavily committed to the Delhi group, and I'm not someone that's gone into tournaments and pulled out after being picked up in an auction or whatever that looks like. These are different circumstances," he was one of the vital cogs in Delhi's bowling attack as he picked 14 wickets from 10 innings at an average of 26.14. Australia's Starc comfortable with IPL pullout regardless of repercussion
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is comfortable with his decision to leave the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the India-Pakistan clashes last month regardless of any repercussions, the 35-year-old said. The IPL was suspended on May 9 in the wake of hostilities between the two. It resumed on May 17 after the nuclear-armed neighbours agreed to a ceasefire. While most IPL foreign recruits returned to complete their franchise commitment, the Delhi Capitals duo of Starc and fellow Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk took no further part in the 10-team league. 'I'm comfortable with my decision and how I felt about the whole situation and how it was handled,' Starc told the Sydney Morning Herald on Friday. 'Time will tell with repercussions or how it looks with guys that didn't return. But I've had my questions and concerns leading into that game, and obviously we saw what happened, which played a part in my decision.' ALSO READ | IPL 2025 Tour Diary — From Playoffs to proposals: Capturing tales of glory and love Starc was in Dharamsala, near the Pakistan border, for Delhi's May 9 match against the Punjab Kings. The contest was abandoned midway through, although league organisers blamed it on a floodlights failure. 'Jake and I chose not to (return). So it was a very individual decision, and I'm happy to live with whatever comes of that,' Starc said. He opted out of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan earlier this year citing personal reasons and has skipped the IPL more than once to preserve himself for international cricket. The left-arm quick said he withdrew from the remainder of the IPL because of the extraordinary circumstances. 'I'm still heavily committed to the Delhi group, and I'm not someone that's gone into tournaments and pulled out after being picked up in an auction or whatever that looks like,' Starc said. 'These are different circumstances ... I had a discussion back home then came to a decision, and whatever comes from that I'm comfortable with that and we move forward.'
