Russell says Albon has more to pay after lobster dinner
BARCELONA - George Russell says Alex Albon still owes him because the tab for a lobster pasta dinner picked up by his friend and Formula One rival after the Monaco Grand Prix was not enough to make amends for the race.
Mercedes driver Russell finished 11th last Sunday with Albon ninth and Williams teammate Carlos Sainz 10th, the pair using strategy to defend their scoring positions on an afternoon without overtaking.
Russell, who had scored points in every round up to Monaco, said afterwards that Albon would be paying for dinner and the Thai obliged.
"He ordered the most expensive thing on the menu," Albon told reporters hungry for more detail at the Spanish Grand Prix. "He did, actually. It was the lobster pasta.
"Lobster pasta, in Monaco... Monaco is not cheap. On race weekends, they bump up the prices everywhere."
Albon said he chose a carbonara, admittedly with wagyu beef, and Russell skipped dessert.
Asked whether it had been an expensive restaurant, Russell suggested Albon escaped lightly.
"Not expensive enough. So, the bill is definitely not even just yet," he said. REUTERS

Tesla not keen on local production in India, minister says
[NEW DELHI] Tesla does not want to produce cars in India, a federal minister said on Monday (Jun 2), while adding that Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen are among the foreign carmakers eyeing India's new electric vehicle policy. Tesla has long wanted to sell in the world's third-largest car market, but high tariffs, which its chief Elon Musk has said are among the steepest in the world, have been a deterrent. India on Monday finalised an EV policy that significantly cuts import taxes for foreign automakers that pledge to invest in building EVs domestically. The policy, which has been in the works for a year, was originally designed to lure Tesla to set up manufacturing in the country. Under the revamped scheme, companies will be allowed to import a limited number of electric cars at a lower import duty of 15 per cent versus the current 70 per cent duty if they commit to investing US$486 million to build EVs in the country, the ministry of heavy industries said. The companies will be required to set up manufacturing facility in India and commence operations within three years after getting approval and must meet certain local content requirements. Domestic players like Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra have invested millions of US dollars in local EV manufacturing, with more to come, and lobbied against duty cuts. India's EV sales, dominated by Tata Motors, accounted for just 2.5 per cent of total car sales of 4.3 million in 2024, and the government wants to increase this to 30 per cent by 2030. REUTERS

South Korea coach says Son won't be pushed too hard in 2026 qualifiers
South Korea captain Son Heung-min will be used sparingly in their World Cup qualifiers against Iraq and Kuwait as he builds up his match fitness following his return from a foot injury, coach Hong Myung-bo said on Monday. South Korea, who lead Group B by three points, face Iraq in Basra on June 5 before returning home for their final qualifier of the third round against Kuwait five days later. The Koreans will qualify for their 11th successive World Cup if they avoid defeat by Iraq, who last month appointed former Australia boss Graham Arnold as their head coach. Son has been dealing with the injury for the past two months and was restricted to a substitute's appearance in Tottenham Hotspur's 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final. "He and I have not yet discussed exactly how much he will play. But my staff and I already know all about his drive and his desire to play," Hong told reporters. "Since we have two matches coming up (to try to qualify for the World Cup), I will not push him too hard. Once we get to Iraq, we will decide which of the two matches we will focus on." The 56-year-old said Son's experience would be invaluable in Iraq even if he does not play. "We will probably play in a hostile environment in front of partisan fans," he added.
