Created in 2015, the Comcast Community Champion of the Year Award was designed to honor the outstanding efforts and achievements of NASCAR industry members who have worked to selflessly give back to their communities and beyond. Comcast will select and honor three finalists, sharing their stories publicly. Following the finalists' selection, a committee of NASCAR & Comcast executives, as well as 2024 winner Erik Jones, will name the 2025 Comcast Community Champion of the Year, awarding $60,000 to the champion's affiliated charity and $30,000 to each of the two finalists' selected charities later this year.
'I'm really looking forward to hearing who the nominees are for this year's Comcast Community Champion Award,' Jones said. 'Last year, the award meant so much to us and our foundation. I can't wait to see the impact it's going to have on the next recipient and their organization.'
Any individual with a 2025 annual credential or NASCAR full season license from any of NASCAR's top three national series is eligible to be nominated as a 2024 finalist, including:
Team owners, drivers and all NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series employees
Full-time employees of tracks that are currently on the schedule for NASCAR's three series
NASCAR Media members who have a Print, Broadcast or Photography Hard Card
NASCAR Officials
NASCAR Partners/Sponsors
Family members of drivers and crew members
Driver and team employees (motorhome drivers, agents, managers, etc.)
Support industry personnel (engine builders, parts and service providers, etc.)
Since the inception of the program, Comcast has supported over 30 different nonprofit organizations — a powerful reflection of the unwavering dedication and long-standing philanthropic spirit shared by all finalists and champions. Over the past 11 years, Comcast has made it a priority to reach and uplift as many communities as possible, creating meaningful change across the country. With over $1 million contributed to deserving organizations connected to members of the NASCAR family, Comcast has not only deepened its roots within the sport but also extended its impact far beyond the track. This initiative is more than a program — it's a movement grounded in compassion, community and a shared commitment to making a lasting difference where it matters most.

Comcast Stock (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Gains With a New Sports Connection

Good news for Chicago sports fans who turn to communications giant Comcast (CMCSA) for their television. The deal has been made, and Chicago Sports Network access will be on Comcast now, as of today, at last report. The downside, though—and you knew there would be one—is that the costs will be on the rise. But good news was still good news, and Comcast shareholders sent shares upward modestly in Friday afternoon's trading. Confident Investing Starts Here: Yes, Chicago Sports Network will be on Comcast service, but it will only be on the Ultimate tier, which requires pretty much the highest level of subscription there is. Exact details of the agreement were not disclosed, but reports suggest that the Ultimate tier will add an extra $20 per month to customers' bills, on top of the $20.25 regional sports network fee being charged to Chicagoland subscribers. However, there is something of a plus here. Subscribers were getting a monthly credit of $8.85 from the loss of NBC Sports Chicago. For those basic subscribers that do not upgrade to the Ultimate tier and get access to Chicago Sports Network, the $8.85 credit will remain in place, and drop the regional sports fee to just $11.40 a month, which, all things considered, could be worse. Cybersecurity Advancements It may surprise you to note that Comcast actually has a cybersecurity arm, which is not all that surprising given its connection to online services. But it does, and that arm is known as DataBee. DataBee recently announced that it added new tools to its lineup, specifically the BluVector network detection and response (NDR) platform. BluVector uses artificial intelligence (AI) to search networks for evidence of a variety of potential failure points. These include ransomware, zero-day exploits, malware contained in memory, and more. It inspects packets at a rate of millions per second, which allows it to be used as a real-time threat detection mechanism. Is Comcast Stock a Good Buy Right Now? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on CMCSA stock based on nine Buys, 10 Holds and two Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 12.17% loss in its share price over the past year, the average CMCSA price target of $40.86 per share implies 18.23% upside potential.

NASCAR Commissioner Steve Phelps has spoken about his hopes of attracting Brazilian drivers to the sport with the possibility of the country hosting a race in the future. As one of NASCAR's four international series alongside Canada, Mexico, and the Euro Series, Brazil has hosted the NASCAR Brasil Series since 2012, and Phelps is keen to see some of the drivers from the series join either the Craftsman Truck, Xfinity, or Cup Series. During an interview with Phelps explained: "We have a driver who is from Mexico, Daniel Suarez, and that's a great victory for us. Not through our driver development program, [but] we also have Shane Van Gisbergen from New Zealand [who] used to race in Australia. More"We'd like to have drivers from all over the world coming to race with us, in our three national categories, but in particular in our main category, like what Daniel and SVG are doing." He added: "We'd like to have a Brazilian come out of NASCAR Brazil, come and race with us full-time, and, you know, compete for wins and championships. So we're excited about this prospect, I was very impressed with the number of drivers I saw and how fast they were and their abilities, and we're excited about this happening in the future." Phelps was promoted to the newly formed role of NASCAR Commissioner in March. He commented at the time of the announcement: "I'm honored to take this next step in helping to guide NASCAR, the sport I've loved since my father took me to my first race at 5 years old, continue to grow and welcome new fans, competitors and partners that together create some of the most extraordinary moments in sports. "I cannot thank the France family enough for their unwavering commitment to our fans, their steady leadership, and most importantly, their stewardship of stock-car racing since its inception nearly eight decades ago. This sport is truly one of the great American business stories and I'm privileged to continue as part of that legacy – and especially its bright future. "We are thrilled to name Steve Phelps as NASCAR's first Commissioner. His leadership, professionalism and well-earned respect from across the sports industry speak to his unique value for the sport," said NASCAR Chairman & CEO Jim France added. "With more than 50 years of expertise between them, both Steve Phelps and Steve O'Donnell bring tremendous expertise, stability and a commitment to the bold racing innovations that will continue to serve fans, teams and stakeholders for many years to come."

Jon Jones Ignores Tom Aspinall, Reveals Francis Ngannou Superfight Plan

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Jon Jones has been enjoying his time away from the octagon, as he has been active on social media, showcasing his vacation in Thailand, among other things. This led to current UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall claiming that Jones is retired, and also stating his plans to reignite the heavyweight division. More news: Jon Jones Drops Major Hint at UFC Future With Cryptic Post Instead of listening to all the noise, Jones has taken a more subtle approach to his responses, claiming that he is just enjoying his life and everyone else should do the same. Though the heavyweight champion has not mentioned any kind of plans to fight, he dropped a bomb on his X page. I'm hearing Francis Ngannou is still interested… now we're talking. That's a real super fight. A clash of champions, not just hype. He held the UFC belt, I've defended mine for over a decade. Two kings from different roads. Not just one legend facing a mouth that's hot right… — Jonny Meat (@JonnyBones) June 6, 2025 Jones posted that not only is the current PFL Africa Chairman and former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou still interested in fighting Jones, but that the fight could be of huge interest to Jones as well. "I'm hearing Francis Ngannou is still interested... now we're talking. That's a real super fight. A clash of champions, not just hype. He held the UFC belt, I've defended mine for over a decade. Two kings from different roads. Not just one legend facing a mouth that's hot right now, but two real legacies colliding. That's the kind of fight that actually adds something special to my story. 👑🔥 At least from my point of view," the post reads. MMA fighter Jon Jones reacts after his TKO victory against US MMA fighter Stipe Miocic in their heavyweight title bout during UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden in New York, November 16, 2024. MMA fighter Jon Jones reacts after his TKO victory against US MMA fighter Stipe Miocic in their heavyweight title bout during UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden in New York, November 16, 2024. Photo by KENA BETANCUR/AFP viaJones has made it known that following his victory against Stipe Miocic back in November 2024, he was only interested in fighting for "legacy." He did state that he would want to face off against Alex Pereira in a superfight, but that was likely pushed aside when Pereira lost his light heavyweight belt to Magomed Ankalev at UFC 313 in March. Though Jones has an opponent that the MMA-loving world wants to see him take on, which is Aspinall, a superfight with Ngannou would be vastly bigger. Ngannous left the UFC after many issues regarding fighter pay were brought up during his tenure as champion. He would become a free agent, and eventually join the PFL. Now, Ngannou and Jones' star power has led to both men being able to essentially call their own shots in their respective promotions. Considering their pull with the UFC and PFL, could a superfight even happen? Read more: Exclusive: Donn Davis Breaks Down How PFL Plans to Expand and Evolve MMA in 2025 Newsweek Sports spoke to PFL Founder and Chairman Donn Davis back in December 2024, and Davis stated there are no hurdles for cross-promotional fights. If the audience wants it that bad, they can get it. "As a guy who has done business deals for 35 years, there is no obstacle to any deal that people want to do. Any deal that people want to do will always get done. There is plenty of money here. There is plenty of opportunity here. There are no logistical barriers, there are no hurdles. When people want to do, it's gonna happen. And there are a lot of reasons to do this one," Davis stated. This comment could ring true now that Jones is for real proposing a superfight with Ngannou.
