Official: Real Madrid star receives Player of the Season award
The winner of the Player of the Season award at La Liga giants Real Madrid was on Wednesday handed his prize.
The player honoured with the accolade? Kylian Mbappé.
Frontman Mbappé is for his part of course fresh off what ultimately proved to be a hugely productive debut campaign on the books of Real Madrid.

After initially struggling to adapt to his new surroundings, the Frenchman soon turned things around in spectacular fashion, to emerge as by some distnce Los Blancos' most consistent attacking threat.
A final day brace against Real Sociedad last weekend took Mbappé's tally for 2024/25 to a whopping 43 goals.
And as alluded to above, this week, such efforts on the part of the 26-year-old have been altogether aptly recognised by the club's supporters.
As confirmed in a release across Real Madrid's social media platforms, Mbappé has scooped the award for Player of the Season at the Santiago Bernabéu.

After 6-year absence, Isco returns to Spain's squad for Nations League semifinal. Rodri still out

MADRID (AP) — Isco is back with Spain's national team after a six-year absence, while Rodri remains out after a long injury layoff. Coach Luis de la Fuente on Monday named 26 players for the Nations League semifinal against France on June 5 in Stuttgart. Germany and Portugal will play in the other semifinal on June 4 in Munich. Advertisement The 33-year-old Isco, the former Real Madrid player who is now with Real Betis, hadn't been called up for Spain since 2019. His solid performances for Betis in the Spanish league earned him a spot in the national team again. 'I've never paid attention to how long they've been away," De la Fuente said. "It was the right time for Isco to return, he'll be there and he'll contribute, because if I had thought otherwise, he wouldn't have been there.' Rodri recently returned for Manchester City after a long layoff because of a serious knee injury, but De la Fuente felt it was too soon to bring him back to the national team. 'He's very important but has been out for eight months and played only 10 minutes," De la Fuente said. 'I've spoken with him and we thought it wasn't the time to take any risks.' Advertisement The coach did select midfielder Gavi, who also sustained a serious knee injury but played often for Barcelona this year. 'He's at a high level and has room for improvement,' De la Fuente said. 'He has to keep working to maintain the level he was at a little over a year ago.' Included in the list, as expected, were Barcelona players Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Dani Olmo. Athletic's Nico Williams also was called up. Some of those missing were defenders Iñigo Martínez of Barcelona and Raúl Asencio of Real Madrid. ___ Squad: Goalkeepers: David Raya (Arsenal), Álex Remiro (Real Sociedad), Unai Simón (Athletic Bilbao) Advertisement Defenders: Marc Cucurella (Chelsea), Óscar Mingueza (Celta Vigo), Dani Vivian (Athletic Bilbao), Pau Cubarsí (Barcelona), Pedro Porro (Tottenham), Alejandro Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen), Dean Huijsen (Real Madrid), Robin Le Normand (Atletico Madrid) Midfielders: Martín Zubimendi (Real Sociedad), Mikel Merino (Arsenal), Gavi (Barcelona), Alex Baena (Villarreal), Fabián Ruiz (Paris Saint-Germain), Aleix García (Bayer Leverkusen), Pedri (Barcelona), Isco (Real Betis). Carlo Ancelotti's son Davide joins Brazil as an assistant coach

SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazil's soccer confederation announced on Friday that Davide Ancelotti had joined his father, Carlo Ancelotti, as an assistant coach for the five-time World Cup champions. Davide Ancelotti started his career as an assistant coach in 2015, following his father at Napoli, Everton, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. Brazil's soccer body said in a statement that the 35-year-old Davide Ancelotti's arrival 'represents another step in our search for innovation and technical improvements.' 'His international experience and training methodologies will be fundamental for the players' development and for the construction of an even more competitive team,' it said. Carlo Ancelotti's debut with Brazil at Ecuador on Thursday ended in a 0-0 draw , which kept the team in the fourth place in the South American World Cup qualifying standings . Davide Ancelotti is expected to be on the bench on Tuesday, when Brazil hosts third-place Paraguay. Davide Ancelotti initially followed in his father's footsteps as a professional footballer at AC Milan's youth team and then at Borgomanero, but he retired at the age 20 to work in management. He holds a degree in sports science. Davide Ancelotti's coaching career started in 2012 as a fitness coach at Paris Saint-Germain. He had a similar role at Real Madrid from 2013 to 2015. His first assistant manager position came at Bayern Munich in 2016 and then at the other clubs his father managed. ___ AP soccer:
