Peter Murphy Cancels 2025 Tour Dates Due To Ongoing ‘Health Issues'
Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy has announced he will not be hitting the road this summer as planned, with ongoing health issues to blame for the nascent cancellation.
Murphy announced his news via social media on Monday (June 2), informing fans that, 'It is with regret that, due to recent health issues, I will be unable to perform for you this summer. '

'I am very much saddened by this news,' he added. 'This situation is hopefully temporary, and we will be able to announce shows in support of Silver Shade at some point in the near future. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.'
The forthcoming tour dates were set to see Murphy touring in support of Silver Shade, his first new solo album since 2014, with festival dates scheduled throughout the U.K. and Europe between June and August.
Murphy's live appearances have been limited in recent years, with a heart attack necessitating the postponement of his 2019 residency at New York venue Le Poisson Rouge. A reformed Bauhaus would later cancel a run of North American dates in 2022 after stating that Murphy would be 'entering a rehabilitation facility to attend to his health and well-being.'
In early 2023, the Celebrating David Bowie tour was rescheduled after Murphy underwent 'an unexpected medical procedure,' before he dropped out entirely 'due to ill health and doctor's orders to rest and recover.' In December 2024, an upcoming U.K. and European leg of the same tour was cancelled after it was announced Murphy had 'suddenly taken ill.'
Murphy rose to fame as a member of Bauhaus in the late '70s, with their debut single 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' being considered one of the pioneering gothic rock tracks. Bauhaus split in 1983 after releasing four albums, and Murphy launched a solo career in 1986. His third album, 1989's Deep, would peak at No. 44 on the Billboard 200, with the single 'Cuts You Up' reaching No. 55 on the Hot 100 and topping the Modern Rock Tracks chart the following year.
Bauhaus' reunions would result in a final album in 2008, with the group releasing their final single, 'Drink the New Wine' in early 2022. In May 2025, Murphy released his latest studio album, Silver Shade, which featured contributions from Boy George alongside members of Tool and Nine Inch Nails.

JoJo Siwa Gets Candid About People 'Tearing Apart' Her Queerness
JoJo Siwa has seen the mixed reactions to her hard launch with Chris Hughes, including discourse around labels and fluidity when it comes to her queerness. In a conversation with Billboard, JoJo got candid about the evolution of her sexuality and identity. When asked how she navigates figuring out her identity as a public-facing person, JoJo said, 'It's really hard because people tear it apart.' 'I understand if you have no context why people tear things apart… there's people going through this same thing that I'm going through. There's somebody who's identified as one sexuality and then maybe had this realization within themselves but they don't now feel they can't change or grow,' she told host Tetris Kelly on the outlet's Take Us Out series. The 'Karma' singer shared that she felt like she was put in a box she wasn't meant to be once she came out in 2021. 'I've dated beautiful women, I've dated beautiful non-binary people, I have dated men… but I realize that's just who I am. I realize for myself that I just like humans,' JoJo, who uses all pronouns, explained. As for her connection with Chris, she said, '[He's someone I would] die for… when someone comes into your life and you enjoy it, you can tell.' During a June 2 interview with The Guardian, JoJo officially confirmed that her relationship with the former Love Island star has become romantic. 'It's not platonic anymore, and it's been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I'm absolutely head over heels for him, and he's the same way,' she said. The hard launch came after JoJo faced a public breakup with Kath Ebbs and experienced a whirlwind of emotions during her time on Celebrity Big Brother UK, where she met Chris and shared an intimate moment with him regarding her gender identity. 'Essentially, you have female, you have male. I've met a lot of females. Love them. Don't feel like I'm them. Met a lot of males. Love them. Definitely not them. I've met a lot of people in my life that are non-binary and these beautiful non-binary people are who I feel the most like,' JoJo explained through tears. She added, 'It's not something that I want to say about myself yet, but it's something that is confusing.' Her housemate Danny Beard reassured her that she's allowed to keep things to herself and that it's okay to 'not have all the answers' about her identity and sexuality. 'You want to see you. You've been in this community for a while, and you're growing up in a public spotlight,' Danny said. 'You don't need to give anyone all the answers ever at all. Ever. Even when you know them for you, you don't owe anyone.' Couldn't have said it better ourselves.

Europe suffers its largest diphtheria outbreak in 70 years
The largest diphtheria outbreak to strike Western Europe in 70 years has been affecting vulnerable people such as migrants and the homeless since 2022, new research said Wednesday. Diphtheria is a highly contagious bacterial infection that can attack the respiratory tract and spread throughout the body, causing a sore throat, fever and other symptoms. For unvaccinated people, it can be fatal in around 30 percent of cases, and is deadlier for children, according to the World Health Organization. In 2022, there was an unusual surge in the bacteria that causes diphtheria -- Corynebacterium diphtheriae -- in several European countries, particularly among recently arrived migrants, according to a study in the New England Journal of Medicine. That year 362 cases were recorded by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. Contact tracing and screening helped tamp down the outbreak, but rare infections have continued to be recorded, the researchers said. A total of 536 cases, including three deaths, have been recorded across Europe since the start of 2022. Patient samples from 10 countries showed that 98 percent of the cases were in males with an average age of 18. Almost all had recently migrated. "The outbreak, which mainly affected migrants from Afghanistan and Syria, was not the result of people being infected in their countries of origin, but during their migration journeys or in their places of accommodation in European countries," said a joint statement from France's public health agency and the Pasteur Institute. The genetic similarities between the strains seen in people from different countries suggests that there was a "recent point of contact, outside the country of origin" at the source of the outbreak, the statement added. The exact areas affected by the outbreak remains unclear. But a genetic link between the 2022 strain and the one detected in Germany this year indicates that "the bacteria continues to circulate quietly in Western Europe," the statement said. Vaccination is very effective at fending off diphtheria, and the researchers emphasised the importance of immunisation programmes for the general public. They also called for European nations to do more to ensure their most vulnerable people avoid contracting the disease. That included raising awareness of the symptoms among doctors and those in contact with migrants and the homeless, as well as increasing access to vaccines and antibiotic drugs. ic-dl/giv

Cynthia Erivo Teases Elphaba's ‘Rage' Ahead Of ‘Wicked: For Good' Trailer Drop
Partial teaser poster for "Wicked: For Good" featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Cynthia Erivo is talking about the changes she made for Elphaba in Wicked: For Good ahead of the release of the film's first trailer, which is set for Wednesday. Erivo, of course, was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar earlier this year, one of the 10 nods Wicked received including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande. Wicked won two Oscars at the 97th Academy Awards — for Best Costume Design for Paul Tazewell and Best Production Design for Lee Sandeles and Nathan Crowley. Wicked: For Good — the second film in the adaptation of the 2003 classic Broadway musical — is set for a Nov. 21 release. The first trailer for Wicked: For Good will premiere at a one-night-only screening event of Wicked in theaters on Wednesday, followed by the release of the teaser on YouTube, according to ABC's Good Morning America. In an interview Monday with Billboard about her new album I Forgive You, Erivo brought a bit of Wicked: For Good into the conversation. Considering that Elphaba is heading into the Wicked Witch of the West territory that fans know from the character's appearance in the 1939 film classic The Wizard of Oz, Erivo noted that there are dark times ahead for Glinda's former ally. 'She's able to access her rage more,' Erivo told Billboard. 'The scent I wore changed. The makeup changed. Little shifts that bring you to a more mature version of who Elphaba becomes. And she is delicious in this next one.' In addition to the film's awards season success, Wicked was a massive hit in theaters. Following the film's Nov. 22, 2024, release, Wicked went on to earn $473.2 million in North American theaters and nearly $282 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $755.2 million against a $145 million budget before prints and advertising, according to The Numbers. Wednesday's special screening of the film with the Wicked: For Good trailer drop will, of course, add to that number. In addition to the theatrical success of Wicked, the film also earned $100 million in digital streaming revenues via premium video on demand, Deadline reported in April. Wicked is currently streaming on Peacock and is still available to purchase or rent on PVOD. Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked: For Good opens in theaters worldwide on Nov. 21.
