Ollie Chessum warns Lions against complacency on Australia tour
Andy Farrell's men face Western Force in Perth on Saturday in the first fixture Down Under following their send off against Argentina at the Aviva Stadium.
Argentina celebrated a maiden victory over the Lions in eight attempts after emerging 28-24 winners and Chessum knows all opponents will be eager to claim a special scalp.

'For people playing against the Lions, this is potentially a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,' said the England forward, who is on course to make his debut for the tourists this weekend.
'I'm sure that for the Western Force lads and all the teams we face in the future, to be part of a team that beats the Lions would be massive.
'We expect that from everyone we face, but we also expect to put the best of ourselves out there.
'If I get the opportunity, I'm like everyone in the camp – chomping at the bit to put on the shirt and play for the Lions.'
Enemies have become friends in Perth as Chessum revealed he has been rooming with Joe McCarthy, the Ireland second row he has battled since they were teenagers.
'I'm with big Joe, so it's two young locks have been paired together. They're big beds and there's a nice bit of space in the room,' Chessum said.
'It's a bit surreal. We played against each other when I was with England county schoolboys, so not even the academy pathway. Joe was playing for the Irish equivalent.
'We played against each other at Donnybrook, which we drove past when we had our stint together in Dublin last week.
'To be rooming together on a Lions tour six or seven years after we were playing against each other at Donnybrook is cool.'

'I've been rooming with Finlay Bealham, he's a funny guy,' said Stuart. 'He's had to put up with me sleepwalking already, which he dealt with pretty well. 'He was in the bed next to the window and I'd got up and crept behind his bed and woke up behind the curtain next to the window. I opened the curtain and he was just there. I'm surprised he didn't wake up and get the fright of his life!' Asked about his 'previous', the Bath tighthead added: 'I've had some bad instances. The worst it's got in camp has been locking myself out of hotel rooms and getting halfway to the lobby. Hopefully that doesn't happen on this trip. I might just wear a few more layers in bed because I've been caught out a couple of times!' Stuart and Finn Russell belatedly joined up with the Lions after helping their club seal an historic Treble by winning the Premiership title for the first time in 29 years. Their tense victory over Leicester in the final at Twickenham sparked a wild party which shifted from London to the West Country and on to Ibiza, but by then the two men included in Andy Farrell's British and Irish squad had ducked out. The pair flew over from Bristol to Dublin last Monday. Asked if they'd had sufficient time to savour Bath's epic feats, Stuart laughed and said: 'Er, yeah! I think we did enough in two days to warrant a season celebration and the day after we were a bit ropey coming in, but I managed to dust off the cobwebs quite quickly. Some of the other Bath lads were still going for a few more days, but I haven't got that sort of staying power, so I was quite glad that I had to do this instead!' Once the hangover had receded and Stuart was up and running with the rest of the Lions squad, the magnitude of what he is involved in suddenly hit him, in a fleeting interaction with a legend who is part of the management team. 'I had a moment in training the other day when (Johnny) Sexton was running around, helping out,' he said. 'I threw a ball out the back and just thought to myself, 'Wow, I've just thrown a ball out the back to Johnny Sexton, that's quite cool'. He's working with the fly-halves mainly. I'm not sure I'll be picking his brains about kicking 50-22s, but if I get the chance…!' Joking aside, Stuart demonstrated during the Six Nations that there is a wannabe playmaker hidden in a prop's imposing frame. His side-step and off-load in the win over Italy caused a stir and he had to be politely told to stop trying to repeat the trick every time he received the ball in space. The subsequent banter has been incessant. 'I've been getting stick for that ever since,' he said. 'It's been, 'One viral clip and you've been picked for the Lions'! I had to rein it back a bit, but it's in the locker in case I need it!' As ever, in his role, the fundamental task for Stuart will be to provide a powerful set-piece platform with his set-piece work. After enduring scrum ordeals during England's Tests in New Zealand last summer, the 28-year-old enjoyed a transformational season of personal progress, to emerge as a prime contender for the Lions' starting tighthead place in the series against Australia. He will be involved in the first tour fixture Down Under against Western Force here on Saturday and Stuart is already alert to the threat the Wallabies will pose up front in a few weeks' time. 'I've seen their squad and (Will) Skelton is back in,' he said. 'With him at tighthead lock, that is a scary prospect for any opposing front row. 'Their props are all great players. Tupou (AKA 'Tongan Thor') is a big old goose and has a good bit of footwork on him. When he's firing, he's the world's best. They have a strong scrum, so it will be a good ding-dong.' Having become a Lions devotee while watching the 2013 tour of Australia on a big projector screen at school — 'I remember George North picking up Folau and everything like that' — Stuart is looking forward to the unique touring experience. He will be well supported. His girlfriend, Nancy, will be spending plenty of time in Australia after throwing herself into the Bath party. Speaking before departure from Dublin, Stuart said: 'She's coming out for a good stint. Actually, she just rocked up here today. We talked about me recovering from the celebrations — I don't think she has. She was worse for wear this morning. I think she's kept on going! 'My mum, stepdad and step-brothers are going to come out for the tour. Mum and my stepdad are getting a camper van and doing the tour properly. They did that in New Zealand (last year) and they were slightly worried that their relationship might not stand the test, but they passed it with flying colours! So, they're going to take it on a big scale to Australia. It'll be cool.' For Stuart himself and the Lions squad, all the journeys between cities will be by air. On the pitch, he has been flying all season — now he has a chance to soar to career heights over the coming weeks.

Australia boss Joe Schmidt MUST release stars for warm-up matches or Lions tour will be a farce, writes NIK SIMON
In the botanical gardens overlooking Perth 's skyline, the Lions were greeted by an aboriginal man wearing a kangaroo skin, playing a digeridoo. They were welcomed into Australia on their first day by a traditional smoke ceremony, with all of the players breathing in from a bucket-full of burning leaves, a means of connecting with the earth. It was the warmest of welcomes, overlooking the glorious Swan River, but there is something about Australia's plans that leave you feeling cold. Joe Schmidt is set to hold back his star Wallabies from the provincial warm-up games and it could undermine the whole event. As the ceremony wrapped-up, Lions CEO Ben Calveley stood in front of the cameras and sprinkled some British and Irish spice on proceedings. He needed no second invitation to make his thoughts on the matter known to Rugby Australia. 'The agreement is very clear; it says that Test players have to be released to play in fixtures leading into that series,' he said. 'That is our expectation. ' Legally binding or not, Schmidt will be breaching the spirit of the tour if does not release players to their clubs. The provincial sides are desperate to make the most of their games against the Lions, who come here once every 12 years, but there is a danger they could descend into drubbings. Given their early place in the schedule, the Western Force have been granted special dispensation to select five of their nine Wallabies for Saturday's tour opener in Perth. But that allowance does not extend to the team's best play-maker, Ben Donaldson, who is being held back to prepare for Australia's sole warm-up game against Fiji on Sunday July 6th. Lions chief executive Ben Calveley then took aim at the prospect of Australia head coach Joe Schmidt holding back his star Wallabies from the provincial warm-up games Nor does it extend to prop Tom Robertson, meaning the province have had to draft in retiring prop Ollie Hoskins on a one-match loan so they can forge something that resembles a scrum. The provinces are being sent into battle against some of the world's best players with one arm tied behind their back. Schmidt's protectionist measures scream of a lack of depth in Australian rugby. The Wallabies are eighth in the world rankings and do not have the playing resources of South Africa or New Zealand. They are minimising the risk of injuries before the crucial Test series but Schmidt's selection policy is overlooking the bigger picture. Last week, Andy Farrell had to name a team to face Argentina without players from Bath or Leinster, although Schmidt does not seem like he will make the same compromise. The Fiji match provides a convenient excuse to hold back his players and so far there is no indication that any will be released for the Reds, Waratahs or Brumbies. Australian club rugby is in need of a boost and what a shame it will be if the Waratahs run out for their historic fixture without Joseph Suaalii. Back on the Lions' 2017 Lions tour of New Zealand, the touring side lost to the Blues and the Highlanders in their warm-up games. They came up against the likes of Rieko Ioane, Sonny Bill Williams and Richie Mo'unga and everyone in attendance holds fond memories. Every match was fiercely contested and the Test series ended all square. Perhaps it works out in Schmidt's favour for the Lions to have easier warm-up games, meaning they arrive undercooked for the first Test in Sydney. Calveley made the point that Andy Farrell wants his squad to be battle-hardened. That is a fair comment, but the real issue here is about creating memorable spectacles to justify the Lions tour's place in an ever-squeezed calendar. 'We'll play the game at the weekend and will carry on having discussions with [Rugby Australia CEO] Phil Waugh and their executive team,' added Calveley. 'We will take it step by step. We are encouraged that we'll see a strong side competing at the Optus this weekend. 'It's really important these games are competitive. It's not just for a performance stand-point – the players do want to test themselves and build towards the Test series - but it's also right for the fans, partners and broadcasters who are all expecting competitive fixtures. And for the rugby loving public. That would be their expectation as well.' Schmidt was known for ruling with a clenched iron fist during his days in Ireland. In this instance, it would be in the sport's interest if he agrees to loosen that control.
