Riga [Latvia], May 31 (ANI): State Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Andzejs Vilumsons during his meeting with the All-Party Delegation led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi expressed Latvia's unequivocal opposition to terrorism in all its forms.
Vilumsons reiterated Latvia's strong condemnation of the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22.
Indian Embassy in Riga in a post on X said, 'State Secretary Andzejs Vilumsons during his meeting with the All-Party delegation supporting India expressed Latvia's unequivocal opposition to terrorism in all its forms.'

The delegation shared facts on the Pahalgam terrorist attack, reasons for the launch of Operation Sindoor and India's new doctrine- a right to respond when it comes to a threat to its national security,' the Embassy said.
'State Secretary reiterated Latvia's strong condemnation of the terror attack in Pahalgam in April, and its unequivocal opposition to terrorism in all its forms. The Latvian side noted India as a significant player in the Indo-Pacific region for peace and stability. The delegation also paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi's bust in Latvia.
'The All Party delegation paid visit to the National Library of Latvia in Riga and paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The message was clear - India is a country for peace and will continue to work for global peace. Operation Sindoor however, will come into effect if India's national security is threatened by forces intending to destabilise it,' the Embassy said.
The Indian diaspora in Latvia organised a 'Sindoor Samman' event in Riga to welcome Group 6 of the all-party delegation led by Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam MP Kanimozhi. During the event, the all-party delegation interacted with the Indian diaspora members.
The delegation, led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, also includes Rajeev Rai (Samajwadi Party), Mian Altaf Ahmad (Jammu and Kashmir National Conference), Brijesh Chowta (BJP), Prem Chand Gupta (Rashtriya Janata Dal), Ashok Kumar Mittal (Aam Aadmi Party), and Former envoys Manjeev S Puri and Jawed Ashraf. Washington: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is leading the all-party delegation to the US, said Operation Sindoor was a "brilliantly chosen name" and explained its significance. The delegation is visiting the global capitals as part of the government's big diplomatic outreach to highlight its stand on terrorism following operation Sindoor. During an interaction session at the National Press Club in the US on Wednesday (local time), Mr Tharoor noted that the colour of sindoor is not very different from the colour of blood and even used the Hindi expression "khoon ka badla khoon" and said that here it was 'sindoor ka badla khoon', meaning blood in response to what the terrorists have done to the sindoor. When asked why India chose the name 'Operation Sindoor' for its counter-terrorism action, he responded, "Operation Sindoor, actually, I thought was a brilliantly chosen name. Sindoor, in case some Americans obviously don't know about this, is a vermilion mark that is applied to the centre of the forehead of married women in the Hindu tradition. It's widely practised. Some non-Hindus do it too, but more for decorative purposes, but strictly speaking, the Sindoor is applied at the time of the marriage ceremony and is worn every day thereafter by married women. So, we were very conscious of these brutal terrorists who, by the way, shot men in front of their wives and children but spared the women and when one wife screamed out, Kill me too, she was told, no, you go back and tell them what we've done." "That was why the women were spared horrendous, horrendous act. That sindoor had essentially been wiped off the foreheads of 26 Indian women, 26 I was gonna say Hindu women, but one of them actually was a Christian, but the sindoor had been wiped off the rest by these terrorist actions, and so we wanted first of all, to avenge that act of wiping off the sindoor. So it looks very clear that whatever damage the Pakistanis believe they may have inflicted on India, it wasn't sufficient to prevent India from inflicting such extensive damage on Pakistan that they decided to request us to stop, which we very happy to do," he added. The delegation aims to brief key stakeholders in the US on Operation Sindoor, India's diplomatic initiative launched to counter terrorism and disinformation following the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. As many as 26 people were killed and several others were injured in a terrorist attack in Baisaran valley of Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22. Among the victims were 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. In response to the Pahalgam attack, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. The Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The Indian Armed Forces responded effectively to subsequent Pakistani aggression and pounded its airbases. India and Pakistan agreed for a cessation of hostilities on May 10.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday offered an apology after 11 people were killed in a stampede near the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru following RCB victory celebrations. Speaking to ANI, DK Shivakumar said, "This should not have happened and we never expected such a big stadium's capacity is 35,000, but more than 3 lakh people were (of the stadium) have been apologise for this want to know the facts and give a clear message..." He accused the BJP of politicising the incident. "BJP is doing are very sorry for the incident. We will work out a better solution in the future..." The Congress leader also said that all government events scheduled for tomorrow have been postponed after the tragedy. "...Tomorrow, except the cabinet meeting, all programmes have been postponed. No celebrations, including the World Environment Day..." The Karnataka government announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased killed in the stampede. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed a press conference and said the government would also provide free treatment to the injured. "A major tragedy occurred during the victory celebrations. It happened near the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the deceased. The government will provide free treatment to the injured," the CM said. Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, CM Siddaramaiah said, "11 died and 33 were injured in the stampede. This tragedy should not have happened. The government expresses deep sorrow over this incident." The Karnataka CM further asserted that he has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter. "I don't want to defend this incident. Our government will not do politics on this. I have ordered a magisterial inquiry and given 15 days' time. People even broke the gates of the stadium. There was a stampede. No one expected such a huge crowd. The stadium has a capacity of only 35,000 people, but 2-3 lakh people came," CM Siddaramaiah said.

Shashi Tharoor on Kerfuffle Over Trump's Claims On Brokering India-Pakistan Ceasefire
India did not want to jeopardize its relationship with the U.S. over details about the level of US President Donald Trump's involvement in brokering the May 10 cease fire between India and Pakistan, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has said. Mr Tharoor also pushed back against repeated claims by Mr Trump that he had resolved the latest round of fighting and used trade leverage in the process. Mr Tharoor, who a Congress MP in the Lok Sabha, is leading a multi-party delegation to the Americas in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attacks and India's response via 'Operation Sindoor'. He was speaking at the National Press Club in Washington DC along with Milind Deora (Rajya Sabha, Shiv Sena), Tejasvi Surya (Lok Sabha, BJP) and former Ambassador to the U.S., Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who is a member of the BJP. Mr Tharoor was asked if India had been firm enough in its response to Mr Trump's repeated insistence that he had brokered a deal to end the fighting. He was also asked about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's recent jibe that Mr Trump had asked Mr Modi to 'surrender'. Mr Tharoor chuckled and Mr Deora, who quit the Congress over differences with its leadership after a decades-long association with the party, could be seen smiling at this point. Mr Tharoor was careful to underscore the 'enormous respect' for the American presidency and the American President and said disagreeing with the claims was not a negative comment against the goodwill of others. 'As long as they [ Pakistan] use the language of terrorism, we will use the language of force…and that doesn't require a third party,' he said. ' If, on the other hand, they were to dismantle the infrastructure of terrorism, we can talk to them ….again, without needing an intermediary,' he added. India did not need persuading to stop the conflict, Mr Tharoor said, adding that India was willing to stop fighting the moment Pakistan stopped, a position conveyed to the U.S. If the U.S. had in turn spoken to Pakistan and told them to stop fighting, suggesting that India would also then stop, that was a matter for the U.S. and Pakistan to comment on. India had a ' valuable strategic partnership'with Washington that 'we wouldn't want to jeopardize over a matter of detail', Mr Tharoor said. 'So small matters can go by and we can we can focus on tomorrow,' he said. At this point, Mr Deora remarked, 'I would just like to express my admiration for Dr Tharoor, whom I've known for a long time. He always puts country before party.' The delegates are engaging with U.S. lawmakers, think tanks, the press and Indian diaspora while they are in Washington DC.
