Bakewell bridge love locks to be unveiled in their new home
Thousands of love locks are to be unveiled in their new home on the most romantic day of the year, after being removed from a footbridge in Derbyshire. The padlocks were previously attached to Weir Bridge in Bakewell but Derbyshire County Council took them off for repair work and was due to melt them down. However, after public outcry they were given to the Grade-II listed Thornbridge Hall and on Friday 14 February - Valentine's Day - there is a launch event for their new home, called the Love Locker. Emma Harrison, owner of Thornbridge Hall, said: "It is a massive day unveiling the Love Locker - I can't believe it's actually happening."
When it was announced in the summer the locks were to be removed from Weir Bridge, people shared memories and love stories associated with them. Mrs Harrison said when she was asked if the locks could be moved to Thornbridge Hall, near Great Longstone, she said "yes straight away"."They said I was the last ditch option, but I had no idea what I was saying yes to," she added."I have done nothing but talk about locks, dream about locks, for months and months." "I was so glad I was asked in the end - it has been an utter privilege."
Love locks in the air
She said she was was told there would be 40,000 locks, five tonnes' worth, but she did some calculations and believes it was more."I think we are approaching 55,000 or 60,000 locks and seven-and-a-half tonnes," she said."The original bridge had about 250m of wire on it. I re-designed the new structure with three or four times that amount of wire. "There is plenty of space for new locks, too."She said work started to install the structure and locks at the beginning of the year. "I had fantastic volunteers. We started on 6 January and by 6 February, we were done," she said."The whole structure had been built, all the locks were on all in their proper places. "So anyone who knows where their lock was on the bridge will be able to find it on the Love Locker."Mrs Harrison said Friday will be a "fantastic party" and the structure will be unveiled at 12:00 GMT.

During a rerun of the much-loved BBC show, which aired on Sunday 8th June, Brodie Castle served as the backdrop for a host of valuable discoveries. The episode showcased a man who presented Richard with a 1960s Rolex GMT-Master that once belonged to his uncle. Richard, examining the timepiece closely, told the owner: "All Rolex collectors refer to these things by their reference number," and "You know as well as I do because it says so on the dial that it's a GMT-Master." The owner shared that he had held onto the watch for about 32 years after inheriting it from his uncle, reports the Express. (Image: BBC) He guessed that the watch might have been a present to his uncle in the 1960s, leading Richard to investigate its provenance further. Richard clarified: "It's the reference 1675, which is the classic GMT-Master when you said 60s, I think we could fairly safely say 1960 to 1961, so that all fits in." Upon closer examination, Richard was delighted to discover the watch was unmodified, pointing out that many watches are often altered during servicing, which can disappoint collectors. He detailed: "They would've changed the bezel and they would've changed the dial with an upgrade," and then remarked: "You would've had it back thinking, 'Oh, it looks like new'. Collectors hate that, it's absolutely original, spot-on." The expert was then left a tad disappointed after inspecting the watch further, noting that it sported a jubilee bracelet rather than the original oyster type. He informed the downcast owner: "It's a Rolex product of course, but it says 'Made in the USA'. So perhaps he specified that he did not want the oyster bracelet, he wanted a jubilee bracelet and they put this one on for him. "Which sort of detracts from it a little bit, probably detracts from it by a couple of thousand pounds." (Image: BBC) The guest's spirits dipped further when Richard valued the watch at what would have been £300 to £350 in the early 60s. Reacting to the valuation, the guest said ruefully: "Wish he bought more." However, Richard had some uplifting news, announcing that the Rolex is likely worth £12,000 to £15,000. The guest was left utterly gobsmacked as applause erupted around him. Visibly moved, he uttered: "I can't believe that, can't believe that." Antiques Roadshow is streaming now on BBC iPlayer.

Glasgow second cheapest Scottish city for fish and chips
Ahead of National Fish & Chip Day on June 6, a new analysis has revealed that Glasgow is one of the most budget-friendly cities in the UK for enjoying the classic takeaway. According to research by WDW Bingo, the average cost of a portion of fish and chips in Glasgow is £10.37 - significantly lower than the UK average of £11.71. Harrison Score, the head of WDW Bingo, said: "The data shows that the North dominates the top 10 cheap eat locations for this iconic dish." The study, which analysed thousands of menus via Just Eat and desk research, examined fish and chip shops across over 50 towns and cities. It revealed stark contrasts in pricing, with Manchester taking the top spot for value at just £8.94, while Exeter was named the priciest, at £16.55 per portion - nearly double the cost. Scotland performed particularly well in the affordability rankings, with all major cities offering a portion for less than £11. Glasgow ranked 10th on the list of the most affordable places to buy the takeaway UK-wide, while Dundee was high up the list at third place. Aberdeen and Edinburgh were not far behind Glasgow in prices at £10.67 and £10.93, respectively. Although Edinburgh was the most expensive Scottish city studied, it still ranked far below some of the highest prices found in southern England, where coastal towns like Torquay, Bournemouth, and Southend-on-Sea featured prominently among the priciest.
