A man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a serious assault at a bar in Bridlington, police said.
Humberside Police said officers were called to a bar on Prince Street at about 01:30 GMT on Sunday following reports a 22-year-old man had been found unconscious after he was believed to have been punched by another man.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, a spokesperson said.
Police appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who had any information that could help inquiries, to get in touch.
Det Ch Insp Nicole Elliott said: "We are in the early stages of our investigation, but I can confirm that, following enquiries so far, a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with the assault.
"He remains in our custody whilst enquiries continue, and we look to establish the full circumstances around the incident."
The force said a scene guard remained in place on Prince Street while officers investigated, reviewed CCTV, and conducted inquiries in the area.

Man drives into a crowd in Germany's Passau, injuring several

A man drove a car into a group of people in the southern German city of Passau on Saturday, injuring several people, police said. Five people are being treated in hospital, including the man's wife, 38, and their 5-year-old daughter, according to a police spokesman. The severity of their injuries was not immediately known. The incident occurred at 3:30 pm (1330 GMT). Passers-by alerted the police. Police detained the driver, 48, and have not ruled out that he drove into the crowd on purpose, though that is currently unclear. Police suspect the incident may be linked to his relationship, the spokesman said. "The criminal police are on site and have taken over the investigation," he added. In February, a car drove into a demonstration march in Munich. Two of the injured - a woman and her 2-year-old child - later died in hospital.
