Need to pay for parking at the Halifax airport? One option will end soon
Social Sharing
MACPASS Plus will not longer be an option to pay for parking at Halifax Stanfield International Airport starting next week.
The move is in preparation for the upcoming removal of tolls from the bridges spanning Halifax harbour.
"This was just a decision that made sense," said Leah Batstone, a spokesperson for the airport authority.
Drivers will need to take a ticket when entering the parking facilities and use other payment options in the terminal building and in the parkade.
The change begins Monday. Drivers who parked using MACPASS Plus prior to March 3 will still be able to exit with MACPASS Plus and will be charged as usual.
Batstone added that travellers should familiarize themselves with the other payment methods before coming to the airport.
The province announced earlier this month that the tolls would be removed from the harbour bridges starting April 1.
Halifax Harbour Bridges spokesperson Steve Proctor said toll booths will still be there in April, but dedicated MacPass and cash-only lanes will be redesigned to let traffic flow freely.

Macdonald Bridge will be closed again this weekend
The Angus L. Macdonald Bridge will be closed again this weekend for work that's part of the two-year, $70-million project to extend the bridge's life. The closure begins Friday at 7 p.m. and ends Monday at 5:30 a.m. The bridge will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists, who will share the designated walkway. "Users are urged to exercise caution and obey all directions from traffic control. Cyclists must walk their bicycles in the area of the pedestrian tunnel, near the Dartmouth tower," Halifax Harbour Bridges said in a news release. Halifax Harbour Bridges said traffic delays are expected, so drivers should plan ahead, use alternative routes and allow extra time to reach destinations. This is the second of potentially four Macdonald Bridge closures this year in relation to what the bridge commission has dubbed Project LifeSpan.

JetBlue delays launch of Halifax-to-Boston service until 2026
American airline JetBlue, which was set to introduce a Halifax-to-Boston route this summer, has delayed that launch until next year. Jessica Pettigrew, communications and marketing advisor with Halifax Stanfield International Airport, said they received confirmation JetBlue will be delaying the route until summer 2026. The route from Halifax to Boston's Logan Airport was originally set to start on Jun. 26. 'The current tariff environment and its impact on Canadian travel to the U.S. have created a challenging time for introducing a new U.S. carrier to the market,' Pettigrew said in an email. 'As a result, JetBlue has advised us that it will postpone its launch until next summer.' Pettigrew noted Air Canada still offers non-stop flights between Halifax and Boston. American Airlines and United Airlines are scheduled to launch summer services to Chicago. For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
