Google makes important announcement about YouTube Shorts
YouTube Shorts is getting a new important feature in the coming weeks, Google Lens support. Google announced earlier today that Lens is coming to Shorts on Android and iOS devices. This is part of a new beta that will eventually be available to everyone using YouTube Shorts.Google continues to avoid copying Apple and make most of its services exclusive to Android, and it's the right approach, especially if you want to keep the chance of convincing some Apple fans to your own ecosystem.But what can you do with Google Lens on YouTube Shorts? For example, whenever you're watching a Short recorded in a location that you consider visiting, you'll be able to select a landmark to identify it. That way, you'll be able to learn more about the destination in terms of culture and history, if you're interested in these kinds of things.Once it drops, here is how you'll be able to take advantage of the new Google Lens on YouTube Shorts functionality: Go to the YouTube mobile app, then open the Shorts player by either tapping the Shorts tab or a Short you see on Home
Pause the Short by tapping on the screen
Select 'Lens' in the top menu then draw, highlight, or tap on anything you're watching to search via Google Lens
You'll see visual matches and search results overlaid on the Short (and from there you can easily quickly jump back into the content you were watching) If needed, YouTube Shorts users can tap translate on the lower right side of the screen to translate any captions in the video.
It's important to mention that Google Lens will not be available for Shorts with YouTube Shopping affiliate links or with paid product promotions. More importantly, there won't be any ads shown in the search results during the beta phase of Lens in Shorts.
According to Google, the new Lens experience for YouTube Shorts is rolling out to all viewers this week, but it will take weeks to reach everyone. Also, as mentioned earlier, this is only available on Android and iOS mobile devices. Despite the fact that YouTube Shorts bring almost no money to creators, regardless of how many millions view they make, it's a good way to drive new audiences to your YouTube channel. Google Lens is hopefully going to improve the chance of gaining new fans for YouTube creators.

iPhone 17 to be an underwhelming upgrade
A few hours ago a rumor claimed the iPhone 17 would grow its screen size to 6.3" (from 6.1" in the iPhone 16), matching the Pro model. Invitation from Google hints at earlier than expected Pixel 10 release
Google used to release the latest Pixel models each October but this became a problem. With Apple launching its newest iPhone handsets each September, those looking for a new phone and blessed with having money in their pockets wouldn't feel like waiting for the new Pixel. They would see that there was a new iPhone available and would buy it. So Google decided to release last year's Pixel 9 series in August leapfrogging the release of the iPhone 16 series. Now, Google appears to be looking to move up the release of the Pixel 10 to late June or early July. Some Pixel Superfans have received an invitation to Pixel Penthouse. Google says that this is 2025's exclusive pre-launch event and that it will be attended by 25 "lucky" Superfans who will be allowed to get handsy with pre-release Pixel devices while also checking out new features. They will also receive what Google calls "Pixel-themed goodies." 25 lucky Pixel Superfans will get to go hands-on with new Pixel handsets and features late next month. | Image credit-Android Authority The event is taking place in London on June 27th and it will run for 90 minutes. The Superfans will also have the opportunity to sit in on a Q&A session with real-life Googlers. The Superfans who received the invite will need to answer some questions posed to them by Google to see if they are worthy enough to be one of the lucky 25 Superfans attending the Pixel Penthouse.R The questions are: What is your favorite Pixel feature and why? What does being a Pixel Superfan mean to you? When purchasing a Pixel what information or offers do you look for? When you receive your new Pixel, is there anything more that we could provide that would create more of a special moment when transferring to your new Pixel? Respond to the questions and submit the answers to Google. The winners will be announced on June 11th. To add some credence to the idea that Google will unveil and release the Pixel 10 earlier this year, Android 16 is expected to be released in early June which makes it quite likely that we will see the Pixel 10 hit the market in late June, or early July. The Pixel 10 series will be powered by the Tensor G5 which will be the first Tensor application processor (AP) made by TSMC instead of Samsung Foundry. It was also designed from scratch by Google getting rid of the Exynos base that all previous Tensor APs used. This should allow Google to design some exclusive features into the Tensor G5 which will be built by TSMC on its second-generation 3nm node (N3E). Apple now rumored to be developing haptic buttons for iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches
Apple has been rumored quite a few times to be developing haptic buttons for iPhones, but obviously they haven't yet launched. Now, a new rumor claims that not only has Apple restarted the haptic button project for future iPhones, but the company has allegedly expanded its reach to also include iPads and Apple Watches. So it pretty much seems like Apple is now going all-in with haptic buttons, for better or worse. Obviously, it thinks their advantages are worth it. These solid-state "buttons" which technically aren't actual buttons reduce mechanical wear (to zero, since they don't move at all), while also letting you (or Apple) set different functionalities for a light press and firm press, or a short press and a long press, or all of the above. Haptic buttons were rumored for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max most recently, but plans were allegedly shelved. And now, the shelf is open and development is on the way again, of course, if this rumor is accurate. It doesn't tell us when to expect haptic buttons to reach Apple's products, so it's probably safe to bet that it won't be happening this year. According to the source of this rumor, the reason why Apple hasn't yet launched any devices with haptic buttons is that it hasn't quite cracked the issue of mistouches.
