New premium flights launched between Taipei and Inland Empire
Taiwan-based Starlux Airlines has launched nonstop service between Taipei and Ontario International Airport, its fourth destination in the United States and second in Southern California. The inaugural flight landed Friday at Ontario at 5:05 p.m. and was greeted with a water cannon salute. The route is part of the airline's continued U.S. expansion, following launches in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. 'This new route is an important milestone for STARLUX,' said Walter Liang, chief passenger commercial officer. 'Ontario's strategic location within the Greater Los Angeles area positions us to better connect the diverse communities of Southern California to and from Asia in luxury and comfort.' Liang said the route gives travelers 14 flights weekly across two airports in Southern California. The greater Los Angeles area is home to more than 2.5 million Asian Americans, including large Taiwanese, Filipino, Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean populations, company officials said. Starlux hopes the new service will provide greater access to its network of more than two dozen destinations in Asia. The airline will operate Airbus A350-900 aircraft on the route four times a week: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. One flight that will depart Ontario around 11 p.m. will arrive in Taipei around 4:15 a.m., two days later due to time change. Some return flights will depart in the evening from Taipei and arrive in Ontario the same day, but hours earlier than the departure, at least according to local time. During the inaugural landing, the gate-side launch ceremony included remarks by Ontario airport CEO Atif Elkadi and the director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, as well as officials from Starlux and Alaska Airlines. Starlux promotes its international service as a premium experience, offering four cabin classes and amenities such as Michelin-rated meals, aromatherapy and custom seating. 'With our new service to Ontario, we continue to redefine luxury air travel,' Liang said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Use your OOPS to help TROOPS by donating toiletries that are too big to pass through TSA screening
Ontario International Airport is partnering with USO to collect personal care items for military members ONTARIO, Calif., May 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- You're about to enter the airport's security screening area when you realize you have a new tube of toothpaste, a barely used bottle of sunscreen or another toiletry item that's just too big to keep in your carryon luggage. So you throw it in the nearest trash can, telling yourself, 'What a waste.' Now these OOPS can help our TROOPS, thanks to a new program at Ontario International Airport (ONT) that encourages passengers to drop off any new or lightly used toiletries that are larger than the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)-allowed 3.4-ounce size before entering the secure area. Through the Toiletries for Troops program, a partnership between ONT and its USO, dedicated bins have been placed just outside TSA screening areas in both terminals. The donated personal care items will be regularly collected by volunteers from USO. New toiletries will be distributed to military personnel who are traveling through the airport, whether they're departing for deployment or returning home. Gently used items will be donated to Seeds of Hope for Veterans, a nonprofit co-founded by one of our USO volunteers and his wife, Mike and Karen Rogel, to support local veterans. Heba Shanaa, Environmental Planner for the Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA), said the Toiletries for Troops program not only will support military members and veterans, but will reduce waste by repurposing toiletries that would otherwise go to local landfills. 'We hope Toiletries for Troops can help make passengers feel better about having to discard items, since they'll be contributing to the well-being of service members who have sacrificed so much for our country, while also protecting the planet,' Shanaa said. Brandi Elias, USO Inland Empire Area Operations Manager, said the partnership with ONT is a natural fit. 'It offered a perfect solution to help meet an ongoing need: providing essential toiletries to the troops traveling through our Inland Empire USO locations.' Elias said toiletries are a frequent need for the troops her organization serves: 'They're often requested for care packages, and they're especially helpful for service members returning from intense training exercises in our local desert areas, and deployment departures and arrivals. Providing these items allows us to support their well-being and comfort during transitions.'
