Fernandes was a rare shining light in a dismal Old Trafford season last term.
And the skipper has turned down a fortune to stay in the North West.
Reports suggest Al Hilal offered to TRIPLE Fernandes' £250,000-a-week wages.
But with two years remaining on his United deal, he 30-year-old has decided to stay in Manchester.
Fernandes said: "There was that possibility [I could leave], the president of Al Hilal called me a month ago to ask.
'There was a waiting period on my part to think about what the future would hold. I would be open to it, if Manchester United felt it was my time.
"I spoke with [manager] Ruben Amorim, who really tried to talk me out of it.
"I spoke with the club, which wasn't willing to sell, only if I truly wanted to leave.
"We never talked about money - that was all handled by my agent, not me."
Fernandes and Ana are childhood sweethearts and met in their teens.
They married in 2015 and have two children together - Matilde, 7, and Goncalo, 4.
And he leaned on his rock for advice on whether to leave the Theatre of Dreams this summer.
Fernandes continued: "I spoke with my family to understand if that was what I wanted for my future.
"It was actually my wife who asked me - I never said yes or no.
"She put my professional priorities ahead of everything else."
During Fernandes' early days as a struggling player, he did not have the money to take his beau out on dates.
Ana funded their relationship by refereeing futsal matches on weekends.
And the United star credits her with getting them through the "tough times".
Fernandes said: "Ana has been with me on this ride since we were 16, 17, 18 years old.
"We met as teenagers, and when we first started dating, I wasn't making any money as a footballer.
"She had a nice job working as a futsal referee on the weekends.
'She used to do three or four matches in a row on a Saturday, and then we would always go to the cinema on Sundays.
'I personally didn't have much money at the time so Ana was the one who had to pay for our movie tickets.
"Same with going out to dinner. Even at the pizza shop, she had to pay."

Brentford boss Thomas Frank wants Tottenham job and has already made 1st demand

Thomas Frank is keen to become the next Tottenham manager and wants them to rival Manchester United for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo - who is likely to be on the move Brentford boss Thomas Frank has told his club that he wants to move on to take up the vacancy at Tottenham - who have made the Dane their No 1 target after sacking Ange Postecoglou. Daniel Levy axed the Australian on Friday and has wasted no time in going after his successor. Frank has performed impressively over in west London, guiding the Bees from the Championship to the Premier League before establishing them as a top flight club. ‌ He is now ready for his next challenge and sees the Tottenham job as the ideal opportunity. Talks have already begun about moving across the capital, but Frank has made it clear he wants to bring one of his leading lights with him. ‌ Bryan Mbeumo is linked with a £60million switch to Manchester United, who have now submitted two bids for the Cameroon frontman, but Frank wants Tottenham to swoop in and win the race for his signature. It would be a statement of intent from the Danish manager, who can use the lure of Champions League football in negotiations. Mbeumo has just enjoyed his best season to date in front of goal and is expected to move on. Tottenham's failure to replace Ange Postecoglou has already seen them miss out on two midfielders and now they want to get a deal for the Aussie's successor in place to avoid missing out on further targets. The Bees head coach is thought to have a good relationship with Spurs technical director and compatriot Johan Lange, who is expected to remain at the club. Spurs have already missed out in the market with England international Angel Gomes, a player Tottenham had been pursuing, choosing to join Marseille on a free transfer once he left Lille. Meanwhile, Real Betis' American star Johnny Cardoso has agreed to join Atletico Madrid, providing a deal can be struck. Tottenham did have an option to land Cardoso but he wasn't willing to wait around whilst the north Londoners mulled over their options. Frank will be tasked with improving on Tottenham's worst ever Premier League showing. Their European form covered for poor domestic results and they became the first club to lose 22 times but avoid relegation such was their decline.
