Shimla: A delegation of the
Sanyukt Kisan Manch
met governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking a ban on the import of apples from Turkey.
The convener of the Manch, Harish Chauhan, informed the governor that India currently imports apples from around 44 countries, with Turkey alone exporting nearly 1.29 lakh metric tonnes. He said Turkey earned approximately Rs 800 to 1,000 crore from apple exports to India.
Highlighting the significance of the apple industry in Himachal, Chauhan informed the governor that the state produces between six to ten lakh metric tonnes of apples every year, and nearly three or four lakh families were directly dependent on this sector.
Banning apple imports from Turkey will not only boost the economy of the state but also send a strong message against countries that support terrorism and maintain close ties with Pakistan, he added.
The governor expressed support for the demands of the Kisan Manch and assured the delegation that their memorandum would be forwarded to the President and the Prime Minister. He said the matter directly concerned the economic well-being of the state and the interests of the farmers and orchardists must be protected.

4 on-stream storage structures on Mahanadi
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday announced that the State government will construct four in-stream storage structures on Mahanadi river in Subarnapur district. Majhi made this announcement after launching 56 development projects worth Rs 323 crore during his one-day visit to Subarnapur district. He said the structures will be built at Godhaneshwar, Khairmal, Ulunda and Surubali. While the Chief Minister inaugurated 11 projects worth Rs 80 crore, he laid the foundation of 45 other projects worth Rs 244 crore. These projects mainly include the construction of roads, bridges and hostels, and irrigation, health service and mega lift projects. Addressing the people, the Chief Minister said Subarnapur region has occupied a special place in the political and cultural map of Odisha since time immemorial. This district is a glorious symbol of ancient heritage, religious sentiments, spiritual thoughts and folk culture, he said, while recalling the contribution of saint-poet Bhima Bhoi to the society. He claimed that his government has, within one year, fulfilled 11 of the 21 promises made to the people before elections. Majhi also distributed work orders and assistance to the beneficiaries of various schemes. Bolangir MP Sangita Kumari Singhdeo said under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a 'new festival of development' has begun in Odisha.

BJP to highlight double-engine govt success
Dhenkanal: The BJP has decided to reach out to every village and inform people about the successful works and achievements of 11-year-old Modi government and one-year-old Majhi government in Dhenkanal district. The decision was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of State BJP vice president Golak Mohapatra at district BJP office. The BJP workers, led by leaders and MLAs, will participate in the campaign from June 9 onwards. The BJP team will highlight India overtaking Japan to become the world's fourth-largest economy, development in sectors such as agriculture , IT, infrastructure, drinking water and power and also resounding success of Operation Sindoor. Similarly, the State government's decisions such as providing MSP of Rs 3,100 per quintal for paddy, launching an integrated health card of AB-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (G-JAY), reserving 11.25 per cent of seats for the students belonging to Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) in higher education and ushering in development through 'Utkarsh Odisha' will also be highlighted. The BJP will also seek feedback from people. District BJP president Rasa Bihari Behera said they will reach out to villages and wards to underline the success stories of double-engine government. Odisha becoming industrial powerhouse: CM
Bhubaneswar: Odisha is no longer the minerals hub of India, it is becoming a diversified industrial powerhouse, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Sunday. Majhi made the statement while interacting with industrialists at Lok Seva Bhavan, ahead of the first anniversary of his government. 'Odisha is no longer just a minerals and metals hub. We are becoming a diversified industrial powerhouse, where opportunity flows from port to plant and from cities to every aspirational district,' he said. The State is growing across 20 sectors -- from mining, metallurgy and metal downstream to emerging opportunities in chemicals, food processing, apparel and textiles, he said. Majhi spoke about the measures his government has taken to help industries. 'One year ago, the people of Odisha placed their faith in us to build a future that is inclusive, aspirational and transformative. Today, as we reflect on this first year, we do so with pride, in our progress and renewed commitment to the journey ahead,' he said. Maintaining that his government was focused on job creation, he urged the industrialists to join the journey of making the State an industrial powerhouse. 'Over the last year alone, 206 large projects were approved -- nearly double the average of the previous five years. These represent a total investment value of over Rs 4.5 lakh crore and an employment potential of nearly 2.9 lakh jobs,' he said. 'Since the Utkarsh Odish summit, 56 projects have already been taken up for ground-breaking and inauguration, with a combined investment of over Rs 1.78 lakh crore, and employment potential for Odisha industrial development, Mohan Charan Majhi, minerals to diversified industry, job creation, investment in Odisha, governance and reforms 1.1 lakh people. These numbers reflect not only our speed, but scale and substance,' he added. Attacking the previous Naveen Patnaik-led regime, Majhi said in many ways, his government has achieved more in this one year than the past five years combined through quiet, focused and committed action. In the coming year, he said the government will focus on four key priorities. 'First, the government will bring new policies that unlock emerging sectors and offer global competitiveness. Secondly, the government will expand the State's land bank and industrial infrastructure to meet future demand. Third, we will revamp our single window system and develop a modern, integrated project tracking platform. Fourth, we will work to deregulate and simplify burdensome rules and processes,' he said. He asserted that the next four years will lay the foundation for a prosperous Odisha.
