Jack Keating has opened up on the moment he thought his radio career was 'over' as a result of an on air slip-up.
The former Love Island star and son of singer Ronan Keating has been working on Irish radio station Spin 1038 since summer 2024.
With Ronan having his own radio show on Magic FM, Jack has followed in his footsteps and has even appeared on Magic FM alongside his singer Dad. Jack Keating has opened up on the moment he thought his radio career was 'over' as a result of an on air slip-up. Pic: Brian McEvoy
Appearing on the Six O'Clock Show during the week, presenter Katja Mia asked Jack how he had evolved within Spin 1038 since joining the team around a year ago.
'Has there been any moments, little mishap moments that have happened along the way?' the presenter asked with Jack noting he's gotten 'pretty good media training.'
He said: 'No, I'm actually, like, my media training has actually been pretty good, to be fair. I haven't had any slip ups.'
While he hasn't made any blunders on his own show, the same can't be said for slip ups he's made on other people's shows with Jack admitting he once 'dropped an f-bomb' when appearing on Magic FM.
'I remember I went on my Dad's radio show in London a couple of years ago and dropped an f-bomb,' he confessed.
'Oh, not coming back on Magic FM,' co-presenter Brian Dowling remarked. Appearing on the Six O'Clock Show during the week, presenter Katja Mia asked Jack how he had evolved within Spin 1038 since joining the team around a year ago. Pic: Six O'Clock Show/ Instagram
'Oh, it was literally, it was like headphones off; mic pulled straight away,' Jack detailed.
'His co-host was like, 'I'm so sorry for what you've just heard. We apologise to all listeners.' I was like, right that's my — well, what I thought that was my radio career, over already!'
Jack has been presenting on Spin 1038 since last summer, over the Christmas period landing a prime time gig co-hosting The Mack and Jack Show over the Christmas period.
Now the father-of-one can be caught from midnight Mondays until 3am Tuesday mornings.

I Kissed A Boy's Irish star opens up on how the BBC show was the experience of a lifetime

Hugh Brien talks about growing up as a gay man in Ireland, his experience on the show... and his questionable hairstyle Hugh Brien from Cork, who is currently appearing on reality TV show I Kissed A Boy A young Irishman who's currently appearing on Dannii Minogue's gay dating show reveals his mum hit the roof when he got a septum piercing through his nose. Cork man Hugh Brien (26) is starring on TV show I Kissed A Boy at the moment and also sports another distinctive look — a mullet. Mullets are back in vogue among some men, having first become a trend in the '80s and '90s. 'I've had the mullet for a good few years, since pre Covid,' says Hugh. 'I have had short back and sides and no moustache, I was clean-shaven, but it's going to stay for the foreseeable future. The mullet is the one that stuck. 'I was at home, I actually cut it myself for the first two years and it looked awful. I've kept it going since. Mullet is part of my identity now. TV show I Kissed A Boy 'I have three piercings, including a septum, the three you can see. I got the septum first which was a bit wild. My mum didn't talk to me for a few days after, but no others for now.' Hugh hails from the southside of Cork and now lives in London, where he has become friends with another Irish lad who starred on I Kissed A Boy, Rory Jennings from Galway. 'It's nice because Rory moved to London recently and we live really close to each other. We bonded after the show; we would have had a great laugh on the show. But we're great friends now even though we didn't meet in the Maserati [Italian villa],' explains Hugh. 'It's just platonic with us. We have so much in common, being Irish, being in London and having gone through this experience 'When I moved to London I was kind of showing him the ropes around here.' Host Dannii Minogue Hugh delved into the Cork gay scene when he was younger, but all the gay bars there, including Chambers, have now sadly shut their doors for good. 'Chambers was my home away from home,' he confirms. 'I used to go there seven days a week. If I wasn't on a night out, I'd drive in on a Sunday just to see what queens were around — they were some of my closet friends. 'There's a lot of grassroots scene now, where a lot of people are taking it into their own hands rather than rely on a big corporation to run nights and create queer spaces. I did the same myself back in Cork and I do the same in London. I run club nights, creating a queer space 'Chambers was great. I really kind of found my confidence through queer nightlife and made a lot of friends and learned a lot about myself through that, so I can provide a space for other people to do that.' Hugh now works in recruitment in London as his day job, as well a being a club promoter at night in the English capital. 'I had got everything out of Cork that I could have, so I wanted to move on,' he points out. 'Home will be always home — a quick Ryanair flight back and I'm home. 'I love London, it's kind of the perfect place for me right now. There's so much opportunity here, both in terms of work sense, social sense, meeting people from all walks of life.' TV show I Kissed A Boy Hugh was attracted to Jack S on the show. 'Jack is hilarious,' he raves. 'That was the first thing that stood out to me. He was bubbling with personality and he is very confident in himself; he knows who he is. He is up for a laugh and also quite flirtatious, so definitely a personality that drew me in. 'Especially being a new boy in there, somebody you can kind of bounce off. 'Jack S loves his jewellery and has a great sense of style, and clothing and hairstyle. He could be a model if he wanted.' Hugh says he didn't really see anything in any of the other lads. 'I guess when I first went in, a lot of people were kind of good-looking in their own right. But, to be honest, throughout the show I didn't focus on anyone else, I wasn't really attracted to anyone else like that,' he reveals. 'I kind of just because friends with a lot of other people, it was mainly just Jack S that I focused on.' Hugh Brien from Cork, who is currently appearing on reality TV show I Kissed A Boy News in 90 Seconds - 15th June 2025 'I truly don't mind masculine or feminine, there's such a stigma around, especially [among] gay men, a section of our community, which can be very problematic. 'But honestly for me it's much more about the personality — we cry, we can laugh, we can challenge each other. 'There's a few more episodes to come, you have to stay tuned, a lot more to develop and come.' Hugh says his longest relationship was for three years back in Cork, and he knew little about the show before taking part. 'I didn't actually know that much about the show when I was approached by one of the casting producers. But I did some research before and saw what the show was about, that it wasn't making up drama, it was just real queer people getting on and having relationships,' he explains. 'It was just amazing representations. It was something I could have definitely benefited with when I was young, and also I was single at the time, so I said 'why not?'.' Two of his London flatmates flew over for an episode screening this weekend. 'It's such an amazing experience, that goes for the boys themselves, the crew, also the fact that we could explore queer relationships — no distractions — was great,' he beams. 'Overall it was amazing experience to be part of. 'Dannii was a huge part of our experience there and, getting to the last few episodes, she was around a lot. She knows everything about us and really does care. I couldn't think of anyone else to fit that kind of host role for the show.'

Love Island's Irish star Megan is set for big things, says her former drama teacher

Stage school coach says TV show will be stepping stone to bigger things for Megan Forte Clarke. Megan Forte oozes talent on stage, according to her drama school trainer Rob Murphy, who says he was mesmerised by her performances A stage school owner who trained Irish Love Island sensation Megan Forte Clarke and gave her her first break last night said: 'I always knew she was going to be a star'. Rob Murphy, who runs Dublin's Dramatic Action stage school and is famous for playing 'Buffy' in Alan Hughes' annual Christmas panto, also predicts Megan and her beau on the show, Tommy Bradley, are set to be 'the next Molly-Mae and Tommy'. 'She has Italian blood and so does Tommy. They're both so good looking,' Rob told the Sunday World. 'We are absolutely thrilled for her. I do think her and Tommy could be the next Molly-Mae [Hague] and Tommy [Fury], there's something there and it seems quite genuine. 'I do think they are going to be the next big thing. 'They are really, really cute together and she is not playing a character, that is who she is.' Megan Forte and Tommy Bradley When jokingly asked if he might take a leaf out of Cilla Black's book and buy a hat, he replies: 'A hat? A Las Vegas show piece. Buffy will be there!' Rob managed to see the first two episodes of the series before flying to London on Wednesday with more than 40 of his stage school class for their annual trip to the British capital. 'I think she is absolutely brilliant. She has really shown how down to earth she is with her reaction to things, her facial expressions,' he said. 'I think she has been herself. It's great to hear a Dublin accent in there – and a really authentic Dublin accent. She is flying the flag and flying it well.' Rob runs his stage school classes in several parts of Dublin, including in 24-year-old Megan's native Finglas, located on the city's northside. 'She joined the stage school ten years ago as a little nipper,' he recalls. Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague 'We have a class in Finglas every Saturday with our stage school, she's from that area. I remember the day that she walked in with three or four friends, but she stood out a mile, she was really very talented. 'She did musical theatre with us. She played Elphaba in our Wicked scene, she played Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray. She played Mrs Wormwood in our Matilda show, she always got lead roles, she always had something that was just extra in stage school 'From the moment she walked in the door she was oozing with talent, or as my friend Twink would say 'diseased with talent'. 'You always find talent when you teach young people, but she did have the X Factor; there was something about Megan.' Rob recalls having to pinch himself on one particular day when he was left mesmerised by her natural talent. 'I always remember sitting in rehearsal when we were doing Wicked before it was a film, and she was singing 'I'm Not That Girl',' he smiles. 'Time stood still when she sang that song.' Megan Forte oozes talent on stage, according to her drama school trainer Rob Murphy, who says he was mesmerised by her performances He can't remember her being that interested in lads as a teenager as she was so immersed in training for her roles. 'She was focussed so much on her talent and always focussed on learning her lines and being prepared for class,' he explains. 'That was really her passion when she was a teenager, coming to class prepared and fighting to get that lead role. She was always on it. I think as a teenager she number one focus was always theatre. 'She was energetic, bubbly and could take a joke. I always like to take a fun atmosphere when I'm teaching kids, and she was always up for a laugh, but was a hard worker and we always knew she was going to be a star – and here she is. Today's News in 90 Seconds - June 14 2025 'Her mother, Alison, was such a good stage school mother, she was so supportive. She was always really supportive of the stage school and the opportunities Megan got from the stage school.' Rob fondly remembers bringing Megan on the annual stage school trip to London a couple of times. 'When she turned 18 we had an open call for a Princess for the Civic Theatre Panto (in Tallaght). She walked away with the part,' he says. 'I still remember making that phonecall to tell her she got the part and she bawled crying, it was her first professional contract for theatre work. 'I always knew there was something with Megan that was quite special. I gave her her first professional contract, I gave her the part of Snow White many moons ago and from there she went on to London. Stage school owner Rob Murphy 'So, I was chuffed to hear then when she got into college in the UK. 'When Megan went to England it was during Covid and lockdowns and we lost that bit of contact. But I'm still in touch with her mother, Alison.' He says he was thrilled when it was announced Megan was appearing on the show. 'When I heard the news I said to her 'Oh my God Alison', she said 'Oh stop, my phone hasn't stopped!' I said 'I'm just delighted'.' he says. 'I actually think sometimes you might need reality TV now to break into the West End or that kind of thing, and I think she is going to be inundated with work because she has got a fine singing voice 'Love Island, people might say 'it's a reality show blah blah blah', but it is a stepping stone now for young people and I'm hoping it's going to be a really good stepping stone for Megan because she has talent." 'The minute we land home this weekend I have all the programmes on record. Everyone in the stage school are all mad about it and cheering her on.' On Thursday's show, Megan also opened up about a scar on her forehead, which was caused by an accident several months ago in England when she fell down some stairs. 'I knew about her accident. Megan has always been open and transparent about that scar and I think even on her TikToks she talks about the scar on her forehead and I think that's very good for a role model for young people,' Rob points out. 'We are all this body image stuff and anxiety going on, I think that is a role model to young people to speak about differences and are facing differences on their body and I commend her for that. 'She has always been transparent and I commend her for that.'
