The Ronaldo-led side is third in the standings with 57 points from 28 games, 11 behind leader Al Ittihad. Al Hilal on the other hand is second in the table with 62 points from the same number of games.
This tactical call is designed to keep the 40-year-old in top shape for the key continental matchup.
This move also aligns with Al Nassr's broader approach to focus on success in continental tournament. Given the gap in the league, the club is shifting its priorities to the AFC Champions League, where a win over the Japanese club would guarantee a semifinal spot.

5 audiobooks to keep you running even when your legs say stop

Running is not just a test of endurance, it is a journey of the mind. Whether you are chasing a marathon PR, struggling to stay consistent, or simply seeking motivation to lace up, the right audiobook can push you past mental roadblocks and keep your feet moving. To celebrate Global Running Day, which falls on the first Wednesday of June, we've curated a list of the best audiobooks for runners. From inspiring memoirs to practical training insights, these titles go beyond the miles—offering fuel for the body, mind, and spirit. Whether you're on a long run or a quick jog, these stories will keep pace with you. The celebrated Japanese novelist reflects on how over 40 years of running (he started in 1982) shaped his creative process and philosophy. Murakami connects marathon training to writing discipline, exploring themes of solitude, aging, and consistency. His meditative observations – from Tokyo's Jingu Gaien running path to Greece's original marathon route – paint running as spiritual practice. Ray Porter's calm narration mirrors Murakami's introspective style. This memoir resonates most with runner-writers and those who find clarity in motion. The audiobook makes a case for maintaining passion through decades of physical and creative work. This is Roll's comeback story where he details his metamorphosis from an alcoholic, overweight lawyer to plant-powered endurance phenomenon. The audiobook chronicles his training for the Epic5 Challenge (5 Ironman triathlons in 5 Hawaiian islands) and other superhuman feats achieved after age 40. Roll's self-narration strikes a note of authenticity as he discusses addiction, vegan nutrition, and midlife reinvention. Packed with practical advice on how a plant-based diet and mental resilience, it's particularly inspiring for those on the other side of 40. The revised edition includes new recovery and longevity insights. The Olympic medalist reveals how positive psychology propelled her career. Kastor details her training under coach Joe Vigil in high-altitude Alamosa, where she replaced self-doubt with gratitude mantras and process-focused thinking. Her narration is passionate when describing breakthrough races such as the 2004 Olympic bronze and Chicago Marathon win. Beyond athletic achievements, she shares touching personal stories about miscarriage, team dynamics, and balancing motherhood with running. This book can guide one on how to cultivate optimism during tough workouts – valuable for competitive runners and everyday joggers alike. At 104 years young, world-record-holding sprinter Ida Keeling shares her extraordinary journey from a depression-era child labourer to centenarian athlete. After losing both sons to violence in the 1970s, Keeling's daughter encouraged her to run at age 67 – a decision that became her salvation. Lisa Renee Pitts' vibrant narration captures Keeling's Bronx grit and deep faith as she describes setting records (including the 60m dash for ages 95-99) and outliving racism, poverty, and grief. More than a running memoir, this is a testament to resilience, with Keeling's mantra: 'God's not done with me yet.' Essential listening for anyone needing proof that purpose has no expiration date. At 49, depressed and unable to run 60 seconds straight, Nita Sweeney discovered life-saving therapy: running with her dog. This raw, witty memoir chronicles her journey from mental health struggles to marathon finish lines, proving exercise can combat depression when medication falls short. Sarah Zimmerman's narration perfectly captures Sweeney's self-deprecating humor and hard-won wisdom. Unlike typical running guides, this focuses on emotional healing – how pounding pavement builds resilience, and how canine companionship anchors us in dark times. Ideal for runners battling depression or anyone needing proof that transformation begins with one step (or paw). A moving testament to running's power to rebuild broken spirits.

‘No crowd control measures, no planning': Opposition slams Karnataka government over RCB victory parade stampede

What was supposed to be a jubilant celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore's first Indian Premier League title ended in tragedy on Wednesday, after a stampede near Gate 3 of Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium left at least 11 people dead and 33 injured. As news of the incident spread, there was an outpouring of grief and outrage from across across the country. While politicians across the political spectrum offered their condolences, they also slammed the Karnataka government and IPL franchise for shoddy crowd management at the high-profile event. Calling the tragedy 'heartrending,' Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his thoughts were with the families of the victims. 'The mishap in Bengaluru is absolutely heartrending. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those who are injured have a speedy recovery: PM @narendramodi,' the Prime Minister's office said in a post on X. The mishap in Bengaluru is absolutely heartrending. Gandhi wrote on X: 'The tragic stampede near Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB's IPL victory celebrations is heartbreaking. My condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. He also ordered a magisterial inquiry to look for those responsible for the incident. The Congress leader also said that the turnout was far beyond what the government had anticipated. 'The crowd turnout exceeded all expectations. Over one lakh people gathered in front of Vidhana Soudha, but no untoward incident occurred at that venue. However, the tragedy occurred at Chinnaswamy Stadium. No one anticipated this – neither the cricket association nor the government. The stadium has a seating capacity of 35,000, but an estimated two to three lakh people turned up. We did not expect such a massive turnout; we had only anticipated a crowd equal to the stadium's capacity,' Siddaramaiah said. Siddaramaiah's deputy in the government, DK Shivakumar, echoing this sentiment, in one of the first statements after the stampede, asserted that this was not a 'controllable crowd,' and 'apologised' to the people of Bengaluru for not holding an open-bus victory parade or a 'procession'. 'I apologise to all the people of Bengaluru and Karnataka. We wanted to take out a procession, but the crowd is uncontrollable,' he said, adding that the police denied permission to hold an open-bus victory parade as the 'crowd gathered more than they anticipated'. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed grief over the loss of lives. In a post on X, Kharge called on the authorities to immediately strengthen safety protocols for such events to prevent any future tragedy like this. 'I am deeply saddened by the tragic stampede in Bengaluru during the celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 victory. Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy said that the Congress government in Karnataka should take full responsibility for the stampede and alleged that lack of proper planning and 'complete failure' to take precautionary measures led to this unfortunate incident. 'It is extremely painful to see innocent lives lost even before the celebrations could begin. He lashed out at the Congress administration, drawing comparisons with crowd management during the World Cup victory parade in Mumbai. 'Stampede-like scenes during RCB's victory celebrations are not just tragic, they are a damning indictment of the Congress government,' Vijayendra said. 'Did CM @siddaramaiah even review the crowd safety plan? Did DCM @DKShivakumar, in charge of Bengaluru, ensure medical and police deployment? 'Mumbai hosted a massive World Cup parade without a single stampede. So why did Bengaluru fail? Because in Karnataka, Congress cares more about publicity than public safety. The fans of @RCBTweets and the people of Karnataka deserve answers. Therefore, I urge the government to order a judicial inquiry and fix accountability for this avoidable tragedy.' Union Minister Pralhad Joshi also blamed the Congress government: 'It's heartbreaking to see such loss because of poor planning and crowd mismanagement.' 'The state government in Karnataka has clearly failed in its responsibility. Celebrations is one thing, but the State government without proper planning, without taking emergency services into confidence, took this urgent and unfortunate decision. 'A celebration has turned into a nightmare… Lives were lost due to negligence, not chance,' he posted. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the organisers of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory parade should have handled the event better after a stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium left 11 dead. 'It is very unfortunate,' Saikia told PTI. 'This is a negative side of popularity. People are crazy for their cricketers. The organisers should have planned it better. My deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.' He stressed the need for coordination and safety in mass celebrations. 'When one organises a victory celebration of this magnitude, proper precautions, safety and security measures need to be taken. There have been some lapses somewhere,' he said, contrasting it with smooth parades in Kolkata and Mumbai. Referring to the IPL 2025 final in Ahmedabad, he noted: 'Even yesterday in Ahmedabad, during the IPL final, there were 120,000 people… BCCI has a dedicated team which has done elaborate planning.' IPL chairman Arun Dhumal added: 'It was not a BCCI event. It is sad and tragic. The celebrations turned into a tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.' 'When I told RCB officials, they assured me they would wind up the event,' he said. RCB, which won the IPL final against Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, was scheduled to celebrate their victory in Bengaluru Wednesday. The team arrived at HAL Airport on a special flight on Wednesday afternoon. As planned, a felicitation programme took place at Vidhana Soudha, with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in attendance. Later, the team was set to participate in a victory parade on an open bus. Thousands of fans gathered in front of Vidhana Soudha as well as outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
