Foreign worker dies in accident at Klang factory, DOSH probing
KLANG: A foreign worker died after he was trapped in a blow moulding machine while performing cleaning duties at a factory in Port Klang yesterday.
The Selangor Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) said the incident occurred at 7.35am and its investigating officer was immediately despatched to the scene.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was a newly employed worker assigned to carry out cleaning work in the production area of the factory.
"During the incident, the worker attempted to remove a plastic bottle that was stuck inside the machine.
"He opened the machine door, after which a moving component of the machine moved and crushed his head."
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer.
DOSH issued a prohibition interference notice for the affected area, barring access until the investigation was completed.
Two prohibition notices were also issued to the employer for failing to provide proper work procedures for cleaning and maintenance tasks involving the machine.
"A thorough investigation is ongoing to identify the root causes and responsible parties involved in the incident.
"The investigation is being conducted under Section 15(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994," the DOSH statement said.
