Welsh football league composition confirmed for new season
THE composition of next season's Welsh league has been confirmed.
Football Association of Wales (FAW) officials met this week to confirm the make up of the JD Cymru Premier and both its northern and southern feeder leagues as well as Wales' four regional third tier divisions.
Colwyn Bay and Llanelli make the step up to top flight which goes into its final season of the 12 club format without any mid Wales representation following the relegation of Newtown and Aberystwyth Town.
TNS will now become mid Wales' and the border's sole representative in the elite.
Aberystwyth Town have been relegated to JD Cymru South while Newtown join Caersws, Guilsfield and Penrhyncoch in JD Cymru North along with promoted Brickfield Rangers, Holyhead Hotspur and Rhyl 1879.
Brecon Corries will continue to be Powys' sole representatives in the Ardal South East League.
Meanwhile the Ardal North East League welcomes Llanrhaeadr, Knighton Town and Wrexham-based Lex XI while Corwen make the switch from the north western league.
Knighton join southern Powys rivals Llandrindod Wells, Builth Wells and Radnor Valley in representing their region while Llanrhaeadr join Kerry and Llanfair United as Montgomeryshire's representatives.
Bow Street and Dolgellau AA will once again compete in the north east league while Cefn Albion, Llangollen Town, Llanuwchllyn, Penycae and Rhos Aelwyd complete the line up.

Mike Fondop played for Wrexham during non-league era
In the build-up to The Latics' thrilling 3-2 win over Southend United that secured the Lancashire club promotion back to the Football League, what was Fondop listening to? "I love Andrea Bocelli, Time to Say Goodbye is one of my favourites," former Wrexham striker Fondop told BBC Radio Manchester "On game-days I listen to gospel and that is what calms me. I love jazz music as well, I don't have one specific type of song, I love a bit of everything. "Usually in my downtime I can listen to opera and jazz. I don't like listening to things that give me headaches." Fondop, who played for Wrexham in the Sam Ricketts era in the 2018/19 season, scored 18 league goals as Oldham made it through to the National League play-offs where they beat Yorkshire duo Halifax and York before coming from behind in extra-time to beat Southend last Sunday. He's been at Boundary Park since 2022 when The Latics became the first former Premier League team to be relegated to non-league. Fondop could have been tempted away with Football League clubs looking to sign him but the 31-year-old Cameroon-born frontman stayed loyal to The Latics. "The manager at the time, John Sheridan, called me after the end of the season and said 'I need you to come back," added Fondop. "You owe me because I signed you and you only played two games, 'I want you to get this club back where it belongs.' "So that has always been an objective because I came and I didn't have a chance to help them stay in League Two. Oldham now have new owners in place with businessman Frank Rothwell taking over from Abdallah Lemsagam. "The club is absolutely different now," said Fondop. "The ownership now is more family orientated. The owners are approachable and want everyone to feel part of a family," he added. "In the past it felt toxic. As a player I was focused on what I was signed to do but the environment at the time felt toxic. Now it is so different. "If a club doesn't treat its players well you might think in the long run you can get away with it, you might for a period of time, but eventually it is going to affect results. Now the treatment is completely different." MORE WREXHAM AFC NEWS Fondop, who lists Halifax, Chesterfield, Burton Albion and Hartlepool as his former clubs, can now look forward to life back in League Two. "It has been 34 years since we experienced promotion. I'm 31 so last time they won promotion I wasn't even born," Fondop added in the build-up to their tremendous win at Wembley. "After the gaffer said that I went home and wrote down 34 years in bold on a piece of paper with my goals for the season and I put it on my kitchen wall. It's always in my mind. "It's in my head every day because I want to be part of history and I want the fans to get back into the feeling of what Oldham deserves."

James Jones and Anthony Forde part of the Wrexham family
Jones joined the Reds in August 2021 from Lincoln City and he was joined in north Wales by Forde the following year after leaving Oxford United. Both players helped Wrexham clinch the National League title following a record-breaking 2022-23 season and the pair celebrated a second promotion in a row when the Reds finished runners-up in League Two 12 months later. However, Jones and Forde found opportunities limited this term and both signed for Burton Albion following the turn of the year, meaning they weren't at The Racecourse when Parkinson's men secured an historic third successive promotion after taking second spot in League One. Despite dealing with personal issues, both played have played their part in the success story and the Reds' boss will never forget what they have done for the club. "These lads are part of the Wrexham family and they mean a lot to us because of what James and Fordy have been through with their families," he said. "James was excellent. He's another player who unfortunately this year had a couple of injuries; every time he's got going again, he's had a bit of a setback which is unusual for him because he's not a player who's picked up injuries before. "While that's happened, players like Andy Cannon, George Dobson and Ollie Rathbone have stepped up. "With the offer of an 18 month contract at Burton, he's got a young family and we couldn't stand in this way but we'll always be keeping in touch with him." Forde, still recovering from a back problem which saw him miss the second half of the 2023-24 campaign, wasn't included in the Wrexham squad submitted to the EFL for the first half of the season and he was allowed to move on. "It's been tough for Fordy because he had the back injury and it took him a while to come back, and his opportunities were limited," said Parkinson. "But he's been brilliant for us. Even when he's been out the team, he's been such a great lad. MORE WREXHAM AFC NEWS "He's had an interesting journey with us in, in terms of on and off the pitch, and we think a lot of Fordy as a lad. "But it was the right thing for him because he found a club and was able to get himself back playing again." Forde came on as substitute for Burton who suffered a 3-0 defeat at The Racecourse in April while Jones was absent through injury. "Fordy got a great reception from our fans when he was warming up and rightly so," added Parkinson. "He is one of the great lads we've had who's been on this journey with us and it was good to see him."

Mark Nicholas welcomes private funding into the Hundred
MCC, the organisation of which Nicholas is chair, kept its 51 per cent stake in London Spirit, with Cricket Investor Holdings Limited, a consortium of US-based tech entrepreneurs, snapping up the rest. London Spirit was valued at £295 million, the most of any team, and Nicholas – who was on the board of Southampton-based Southern Brave before moving to Lord's – is excited to see how the investment takes the competition to new heights. 'It's interesting that it seems to have eased off a bit,' he said. 'If you'd asked me at the end of the first year, I'd have said 'eureka'. I was astonished, and the impact on the women's game in particular was fantastic. 'I can't quite get why audiences have gone down a bit, but I like The Hundred, I like the format, I think it's a bit more nuanced than T20. I am a big fan of it. 'I think it will get the most enormous boost next year. Once these private owners take over and you suddenly get that 'brand feel' to each of the franchises, their own marketing impact and fan engagement modelling, I have no doubt the tournament will be really successful here. 'It will be a great venture. Whether it can be the silver bullet, I don't know, but I think it will be a very strong product for English cricket in the years to come.' Nicholas was speaking ahead of the second World Cricket Connects forum at Lord's, at which franchise cricket will be among the topics debated by a collection of key figures from within the sport as well as external commercial voices. Other themes including the state of the game, women's cricket and 'is cricket cool?' will be up for discussion at Lord's, while Australia captain Pat Cummins will be interviewed as part of a panel surrounding climate issues in cricket. 'This year is a little bit more driven by the business of the game,' he said. 'Last year we had the likes of Kevin Pietersen, Jos Buttler and Brendon McCullum, whereas this year we have gone for big players in the various markets. 'That was to some degree driven by the ICC wanting some input to the event but driven more by our thinking that it needed a different angle this year. 'There are still big names who will be speaking – Kumar Sangakkara, Sourav Ganguly, Andrew Strauss. We really did have some exceptional presentations last time and I think we are well on course to have the same this year.'
