MP road accident: CM Yadav announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for families of deceased
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Jhabua district on Wednesday.
The victims were killed when a cement mixer truck overturned onto their van while they were returning home from a marriage function.
CM Yadav announced the financial aid through his X handle, "The heartbreaking tragedy at Sajeli railway crossing in Jhabua district, where nine members of a single family lost their lives and two others sustained injuries, is truly devastating. Authorities have directed that financial support be extended to the victims' families, with Rs 2 lakh allocated to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those who were injured in the accident."
The accident occurred in the early hours at around 3 a.m. near the Sajeli railway crossing in Jhabua district, under the Kalyanpura police station area.
According to police, the driver of the concrete mixer truck en route from Thandla to Jhabua lost control while making a turn.
Struggling to manoeuvre around an oncoming van, the truck collided with the smaller vehicle, dragging it several metres before overturning and crushing the passengers inside.
Among the deceased were Mukesh Khaped, his wife Shavli, their son Vinod and daughter Payal.
Others who lost their lives in the accident included Madhi Bamnia, Vijay Bamnia, Kanta Bamnia, Ragini Bamnia, and Jhkali Parmar.
Miraculously, two passengers, Payal Parmar and Ashu Bamnia, survived the accident, reportedly shielded by the bodies of their family members.
"They were rushed to hospitals in Dahod in Gujarat and Thandla for urgent medical care. The victims were returning home to Shivgarh Mahuda in Meghnagar tehsil after attending a wedding in Manpura village," Prem Lal Kurve, Additional Superintendent of Police, told IANS.
Emergency response teams arrived promptly at the scene, transporting the deceased and the injured to nearby hospitals.
Authorities confirmed that no suicide note was found at the site. Meanwhile, investigators are working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal incident.
The driver of the cement mixer truck fled the scene, and efforts are underway to locate him. The accident has left the local community in shock, with further updates expected as the inquiry continues.

UP CM directs officials to take action against fake, shell companies
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday directed officials to take action against shell companies to stop the attempts to misuse the facilities meant for genuine traders. While conducting a high-level review of the State Tax Department, the CM directed officials to ensure transparency in tax collection and adopt a policy of technological efficiency and strict enforcement. "Tax evasion is a national crime that negatively impacts development plans and welfare schemes," he said. Stressing that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a consumer-based tax system, he noted that areas with higher population density are naturally expected to generate more tax revenue. He instructed officials to develop special strategies for zones where tax collection is below average. Adityanath directed that information on suspicious firms registered under Central GST (CGST) be shared with the Centre for cancellation of their registration. For firms under State GST (SGST), he ordered in-depth departmental investigations, and if irregularities are found, their registration should be canceled and FIRs lodged. The CM emphasised the need for on-site inspection of all newly registered firms, stating "fake companies should not be allowed to obstruct the rights of honest taxpayers. CM Adityanath said that such acts are an attempt to misuse the facilities meant for genuine traders, which is unforgivable. Such inspections are essential to ensure that genuine businesses can operate fairly and without interference," he said. During the meeting, officials informed the CM that Rs 18,161.59 crore in GST and VAT had been collected during April and May against the financial year 2025-26 target of Rs 1,75,725 crore.

Circular rail network on Bengaluru's outskirts to cost Rs 81,000 crore
Bengaluru: The proposed Circular Rail Link Project on Bengaluru's outskirts requires an investment of Rs 81,000 crore and acquisition of 2,500 acres of land. Spanning 287km, the double-line circular network will connect Nidavanda, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Malur, Heelalige, Solur and other peripheral towns. It aims to decongest rail traffic in the city's core areas and cater to residents on the outskirts and nearby districts by enabling more suburban rail services. On Saturday, minister of state for railways V Somanna held a meeting with MPs from Bengaluru and adjoining districts to discuss the project. The railway board sanctioned a final location survey (FLS), which is currently being conducted in phases. The minister said the central govt will fund the entire project. "This is a long-term initiative meant to benefit Bengaluru over the next 50 years," he said. The actual land requirement and cost will be finalised after the detailed project report (DPR) is ready. Completing the FLS is expected to take several months. Camelaram, Panathur works Bangalore Central MP PC Mohan submitted a requisition to Somanna, urging South Western Railway (SWR) to coordinate with BBMP to expedite pending RoB and RuB works at Carmelaram and Panathur. He noted that only 35% of the Carmelaram RoB is complete, causing prolonged closure of Carmelaram-Gunjur Road and affecting commuters. Similarly, the Panathur RuB is stalled due to BBMP's delay in acquiring land needed for the approach road and drainage. Over 340 encroachments on Beed Bypass Road removed, drive resumes on Monday
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The civic body has cleared more than 340 illegal structures along the Beed Bypass Road during its current anti-encroachment drive. The operation, which started on June 3, will continue from Monday following a two-day pause due to festivities. "The Beed Bypass Road has emerged as one of the fastest-developing commercial and residential areas of the city. The stretch of nearly 6km, from Mahanubhav Chowk to Deolai Chowk, had different encroachments, even on service roads and other road infrastructure. These illegal structures are being removed during the special drive," he said. According to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) officials, the removed structures included both permanent and temporary constructions. "A public notification was issued appealing to people to remove the encroachments. Some of them removed their illegal structures on their own while the remaining did not pay heed to the appeal and attracted fines," Deshmukh said, adding that the drive was carried out under the supervision of municipal commissioner G Sreekanth. Local residents from Satara Deolai and surrounding areas have requested continued action until all unauthorised structures are removed. "Some big hotels and other commercial establishments have encroached upon the service road, causing huge inconvenience to locals. The authorities should also pay attention to service roads being used for illegal vehicle parking by these establishments," said Rajshekhar Wamshi, a private professional.
