Probe Agency Raids In Gujarat, Maharashtra In Rs 100 Crore Fraud Case

The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday conducted searches in Gujarat and Maharashtra as part of a money laundering investigation linked to fraudsters who allegedly committed cyber crimes like digital arrests and transferred funds of more than Rs 100 crore abroad, official sources said.
The raids were conducted in Surat and Ahmedabad in Gujarat and in Mumbai by the Surat sub-zonal office of the federal probe agency under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The money laundering case stems from a Gujarat Police FIR against Makbul Doctor, Kaashif Doctor, Bassam Doctor, Mahesh Mafatlal Desai, Maaz Abdul Raheem Nada and some others, the sources said.
The accused are alleged to have been involved in cheating general public through various cyber frauds such as fake USDT trading (crypto currency), digital arrests, threatening innocent individuals by sending fake notices of law enforcement agencies etc., they said.
The money obtained from gullible persons through this cyber fraud was collected in the bank accounts opened by either using KYC of dummy persons or forging the KYC documents.
The illicit funds were converted into crypto currency though various 'Angadiya' or hawala operators and they are suspected to have remitted more than Rs 100 crore funds abroad, the sources said.

Protests in Palamu med college as students seek principal's ouster
1 2 Daltonganj: Around 100 MBBS students, including girls of the MMCH, Daltonganj, on Wednesday laid a three-hour siege of the medical superintendent Dr Ajay Kumar's office and kept shouting slogans demanding the ouster of the medical college's principal Dr P N Mahto. Later, the principal and the students held rounds of negotiations but there was no consensus to end the protest. The medicos had a long list of grievances against the principal and called him a "dictator". They also demanded the revocation of two suspended second-year MBBS students. The duo was suspended for failing to attend class regularly. According to the protestors, the principal imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on two other students for not wearing helmets while driving two-wheelers on the campus, and detaining an intern female doctor at the college gate on Tuesday night for more than 25 minutes as she did not have a bike pass to enter the campus. "The principal threatens us with dire consequences. He terrorises us, saying he will see that we fail in the university exams," the protestors claimed. Later, the principal announced the revocation of the suspended students with retrospective effect. He also announced to return of the traffic penalty. Mahto told the students, "I ask every one of you to wear a helmet and abide by the rules of the college. There will be no vindictive action or attitude. No student will face any disciplinary action."

Man impersonating as cop held, liqour seized
Patna: The prohibition and excise department on Wednesday arrested a person here for impersonating as a police officer and allegedly transporting foreign liquor. According to officials, a team acted on a specific intelligence input and intercepted a four-wheeler near the NMCH around 5.30am on Wednesday. The vehicle had a police board and logo, and one of the accused, Ravi Kishan, was found wearing a police uniform. Officials said Kishan impersonated as a police officer to transport liquor illegally in the past as well. Driver of the vehicle, Roshan Kumar, was also arrested. The team recovered 199 litres of foreign liquor tetra packs from the vehicle. The seized consignment is estimated to be worth around Rs 1.75 lakh. Legal action has been initiated, and a detailed investigation is currently underway. Meanwhile, in Bhagalpur, the prohibition team recovered 525 litres of spirit from a vehicle in the Naugacchia area. Two people were taken into custody, and the vehicle used for transportation was also seized by officials.
