YouTube's theme park super fans on Universal's UK park
Confirmation that Universal wants to build a theme park in the UK has sent ripples of excitement across Europe and the world.Among the most enthusiastic voices have been YouTubers who have made theme parks their niche. A few of them have filmed videos near the former Kempston Hardwick brickworks, south of Bedford, where the US firm plans to build the attraction following government backing. The dedicated theme park fans have revealed what has them and their audiences so excited.
The view from the brickworks
Bedfordshire local Dan Richards has about 111,000 people subscribed to his YouTube channel, DigitalDan.While grateful for his audience, the 20-year-old admits he finds it "surreal" so many people watch him around the world. He recalls: "I really enjoyed theme parks and wanted to share my reviews and speculation on new rides and theme parks. "A lot of people took theme park vlogging very seriously at the time, so I wanted to create videos that were a laugh and just were fun to watch."Over the last few months, thousands have watched DigitalDan deliver updates while sat on a deckchair close to the former brickworks site Universal plans to build on."'The Field' is a personal favourite series of mine, my good friend Marcus and the viewers. Absolutely love filming it and talking about the project whilst being right there on site," he explains.
The theme park fan visits destinations around the country and further afield. In 2018 he took a trip to Universal's park in Florida and is planning a return trip later this year. With friends he has often speculated on what could be included in the park and is hoping for rides based on animated franchise Shrek, but was not surprised by reports Harry Potter might not be included."With Orlando being such a loved place even just for Harry Potter, bringing it here would take visitors away there and from the Studio Tour in Watford."The fact a theme park on this scale and with Universal's quality is coming to Bedford is what excites me the most."We have so many amazing theme parks here in the UK, but to add one that could be seen as one of the best in the world, built by one of the best theme park companies, is super exciting."I think overall it'll benefit the parks all across the country, as everyone will be investing and visitor numbers should increase everywhere."
The view from Surrey
Jack Silkstone lives in Thorpe, Surrey, almost next door to his favourite site - Thorpe Park - which, like many major UK attractions, is run by Merlin Entertainment. The 25-year-old spent three years making YouTube videos documenting his neighbour's construction of Hyperia - the UK's tallest rollercoaster - and he is excited to focus on Universal next.He says: "Tens of thousands of people will tune in to watch a new fence being erected or some concrete blocks being delivered."The theme park fan is hopeful the American giant will bring new fans and healthy competition to parks in this country and around Europe."If they play their cards right they can capitalise on the many overseas visitors coming primarily for Universal," he explains."I think if anyone will likely be worried about this news it will be Disneyland Paris. They've been quite slow with announcements and construction over the past decade, so I can see a lot of UK families choosing a trip to this new Universal park over a trip over to France."Hopefully this also pushes for Merlin to up their UK investments and make the theme park industry in the UK thrive even more."
The YouTuber flies to America to visit Universal and Disney parks almost every year, with a tour to see Asia's parks on his bucket list.He compares the new park to Universal's Beijing offering, which is mostly under cover as it does not have the level of sunshine enjoyed by parks in Florida and California."I don't think we should necessarily expect the biggest and most thrilling rides in the country to be built at this Universal park. "Instead, we should expect highly themed, immersive experiences, using the very latest technology to tell stories from the films we know and love."I still need to keep pinching myself to remind me I'm not dreaming. I'm so excited to see construction start and will be making very regular trips to the construction site fences to document this amazing project."
The view from the US
For 24-year-old Krystal Palace, the new theme park is a littler further to travel. The New Yorker is a regular visitor to US theme parks, as seen on her YouTube channel, The Krystal Palace, which is not about the Premier League football team. The new attraction may be enough reason for her to book tickets to Bedford for her first UK visit."I love visiting new places and especially if there is a Universal theme park there, I'll book a trip," she says."I appreciate the location too. It seems easy enough to get to with just a 45-minute train ride outside of London."No matter where Universal opens a new park, I'll always want to be there on opening day to see the magic first-hand."
A keen adventurer, the YouTuber says her 57,000 subscribers come to her for authenticity and helpful information about visiting attractions. She is hoping for new rides not seen at other parks, especially those that invoke nostalgia for her such as Paddington, Lord of the Rings and Back to the Future."I have received so many comments and messages about how guests wish they never removed the Back to the Future ride from Universal Studios Florida."What I admire most is how much Universal Creative seems to value the fan experience."Just look at the detail in Epic Universe - they clearly aren't cutting corners. That same level of care and creativity is what I expect will set Universal UK apart."

Artwork featuring JK Rowling's name taken off display to stop ‘tampering'
An artwork featuring author JK Rowling's name has been taken down by the National Trust, which wants to 'protect it from further tampering or damage'. Visitors who went to Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire between April and November 2024 were invited to nominate a 'contemporary Virtuous Woman', whose name was then sewn into the fabric. Since the project ended, the participatory artwork, A Virtuous Woman, has continued to be on display, featuring Rowling's name which was at an unspecified time 'stitched over by other participants'. Injustice to JK Rowling corrected. Don't erase the names of women from art or life. #TerfsDidThis @LightninLex – perfect wingwoman as always. — Jean Hatchet (@JeanHatchet) May 31, 2025 Last week on X, feminist campaigner Jean Hatchet said she had 'corrected' the work by taking off the stitching over Harry Potter author Rowling's name. It follows criticism of Scotland-based Rowling's views on gender issues that have seen her called transphobic by activists, which she has denied. A spokeswoman for the National Trust said: 'The artwork was open to contributions for eight months and closed in November when the piece was finished and put on public display. 'During the participation phase, JK Rowling's name was stitched onto the piece seven times and in two instances it was stitched over by other participants. 'At the time the artwork was completed and subsequently hung, JK Rowling's name appeared five times without any overstitching. 'We ask people not to damage or tamper with artworks once they are finished and on public display. 'The piece has been taken off display for investigation and to protect it from further tampering or damage. We take all claims and incidents of damage to items in our care seriously and investigate each one.' Ms Hatchet criticised the response from the National Trust, saying she removed the 'stitching with the correct tool', took 'great time and care', and did not damage it. The stitched names of British queens, artist Yoko Ono, former prime minister Baroness Margaret Thatcher, climate campaigner Greta Thunberg, and Taylor Swift among others appear not to have stitching over them on the recycled textile. The work comes from artist Layla Khoo in association with the University of Leeds and National Trust, and is inspired by wealthy Elizabethan woman Elizabeth Talbot, known as Bess of Hardwick, commissioning a series of large embroideries featuring noble women from the ancient world, such as Cleopatra. Any contributions to the piece have been made by those who chose to take part. None of the views expressed or actions taken by participants represent the views of the National Trust, the artist or the University of Leeds. (3/3) — National Trust (@nationaltrust) May 25, 2025 The trust had previously responded to criticism from the organisation, Women's Rights Network Derbyshire and Staffordshire, who advocated for 'a simple addition to their description', with a statement explaining why the crossing-out stitching on Rowling's name remains. Responding on X, the trust said that it is a 'collaborative piece of art formed of participants' views from a variety of age groups, life experiences and beliefs', and 'any contributions to the piece have been made by those who chose to take part'. 'None of the views expressed or actions taken by participants represent the views of the National Trust, the artist or the University of Leeds,' the organisation said

The seventh season is welcoming a fresh new cohort of stars to gain their Gogglebox stripes with everyone from comedy legends to pop icons. As the full line-up is slowly revealed, there are even exciting rumours of exactly who will complete the cast such as Alison Hammond and her son Aiden who have already done a travel show together. So, without further ado, here's who to expect cropping up on your screen every Friday night. The Inbetweeners star James Buckley has delighted fans after confirming he and his wife Clair will appear on the show this year. The 37-year-old actor, best known for portraying Jay Cartwright in the hit 00s sitcom, took to social media to share the exciting news. 'Hi guys, how's it going? We are joining the Gogglebox family. We're going to be watching some great TV and some not so great TV. And you'll be able to join us on Friday on Channel 4 at 9pm,' he said. James and Clair have already won fans over with their joint YouTube/podcast/book brand, At Home With The Buckleys which tackles 'the wild ride that is modern marriage, parenting and adulting'. The parents of two children – Harrison and Jude – are candid about their 'early lives, years of cult TV fame, having children and setting up their YouTube channel', cultivating over 250k subscribers. If that wasn't enough, they also have another podcast, In Sickness and In Health which focuses on discussing 'relationship non-negotiables.' As such, there is plenty of excitement to see this dynamic duo bring their witty rapport to the Gogglebox sofa. 'Can't wait to see you on it jay cartwright you legend,' Chris_leeds_united_woodrow said. 'Omg I'm buzzing!! Cannot wait!' jessica_sellwood95 echoed. 'These two are class. What an addition to Gogglebox this is gonna be,' kellyann83 agreed. Taking to Instagram to share their involvement in the new season, the loved-up couple said: 'We are both so excited to be joining the Gogglebox family.' Alex then turned to the Hold My Hand hitmaker and asked, 'Are you ready to watch some TV?' to which Jess responded, 'Yeah, are you?' and Alex replied in the affirmative, encouraging viewers to join them on Friday. The brand-new stars have been in a happy relationship since summer 2023 and have been seen together at plenty of red carpet events. Jess spoke about the joy she has found in life to Metro last year: 'I am happy, I feel like I've found a really good balance in my life. I've got support in my family, my business, my partner, everyone around me.' Of course they have sparked plenty of excitement among fans. 'Aww looking forward to this weeks episode even more,' user raerubyraek said. 'No place I'd rather be,' officialanmollakhani joked. After a standout year of cameos from Big Boys to Doctor Who, Rylan is charming the nation for another year as he returns to the sofa with mum Linda. First joining the show in 2019, the mother-and-son duo have been staples of the Channel 4 reality show. In a recent Instagram post, they confirmed this dynamic duo would be shaking things up again with Rylan joking: 'Cor, someone's had her makeup done, look!' Fans celebrated their return, calling them 'the best'. The Happy Monday rockers are back at it for another season as they announced on social media. 'We're back on Gogglebox with crisps, chocolate, jelly babies, popcorn and we're gonna watch tele and what?' Bez asked Shaun. 'Talk a right load of b****,' Shaun gleefully responded. The pair have made quite the spalsh on the show, with such vibrant chemistry that fans have veen called for them to get their own show all together. In 1993, the pair formed Black Grape together and remained close friends since then British swimmer Ellie Simmonds and close friend, radio personality Richie Anderson – who were co-stars on Strictly Come Dancing in 2022 – are returning for another season of Gogglebox. In a chat with The Times last year, the regular joked: 'I love watching telly in the evening but watching myself watching telly on Gogglebox is a step too far. 'When I do, I spend the next few hours thinking, 'Wow, I really shouldn't be on the TV,' which I think is a healthy reaction.' This year has seen another big career milestone for the DJ and presenter who has recently joined the 6 Music Breakfast Show. Comic duo – Babatunde Aleshe and Mo Gilligan – are back, back again. As Mo said: 'We're back, we hope you're back too. Come on! No scary movies though please.' Babatunde was in full agreement although they both seemed to quickly accept their fate that there was likely a scary movie in their future. The longtime friends and collaborators decided to join Celebrity Gogglebox when their work dried up over the pandemic. The I'm A Celebrity star recounted: 'Then the pandemic hit, and the tour got postponed. I was like OK, right, back to square one. 'But then [Mo] said, 'look, we're still guaranteed to do the tour, but in the meanwhile do you want to join me on Celebrity Gogglebox?' And I said 'hell, yeah!' And so it all fell into place. I started doing that, and then my manager at TfL informed me that they had to let me go.' Last but certainly not least, Diversity duo Jordan Banjo and Perri Kiely are back. The Britian's Got Talent winners and self-proclaimed 'besties' are sitting shoulder-to-shoulder' in the new series, as they told fans. They first appeared on the show with brother Ashley Banko in September 2021 and have been regulars since then. More Trending 'Perri kills me. Ronnie O'Sullivan reveals his new career before he leaves the UK with fans thrilled
Following a tough season on and off the table, Ronnie O'Sullivan has unveiled his decision to dive into the world of social media, although one clip already appears to have been removed Snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan has announced his latest venture by launching a YouTube channel. The seven-time world champion had a tumultuous second half of last season, barely competing after damaging his cue in a fit of rage at the Championship League in January. Following a series of withdrawals from tournaments, including the Masters, O'Sullivan returned to snooker with a new cue at the World Championship. Despite reaching the semi-finals, he appeared frustrated, expressing discontent with his form and equipment, even replacing the tip and ferrule during his loss to eventual champion Zhao Xintong. After his crushing 17-7 semi-final defeat, O'Sullivan revealed plans to spend more time in the Middle East and be selective about which tournaments he participates in. Now, he has embarked on a new project, creating a YouTube channel that will allow him to share his snooker exploits and outside interests, including cooking. On X, O'Sullivan posted a link to a clip of his 1000th professional century in the 2019 Players Championship final, stating: "Finally gone and got a YouTube channel... I will be uploading all sorts here from some of my favourite shots and matches to me cooking to me meeting and chatting to some interesting people. Hope you guys enjoy it!!" However, upon visiting the channel on Wednesday afternoon, the only clip available was one of him hitting a 147 in practice while in Saudi Arabia before the World Championship. The 1000th century break clip appeared to have been removed. Regardless, the unveiling was a hit with many of his 564,000 X followers. One fan responded: "Subbed already. Can't wait for more content. Good luck!" Another sent their support, saying: "Good luck Ron, keep grafting & playing for as long as you can." A third joked: "Ronnie O'Sullivan cooking must be Fast Food!" Following his World Championship run, O'Sullivan disclosed his future plans, which involve leaving the UK. He said: "I think I'm going to be moving out of the UK this year. A new life somewhere else." The Rocket, who has a snooker academy in his name in Saudi Arabia, added: "I'll still try and play snooker but I don't know what the future looks like for me really. "I'm moving away soon so I'll just see how it goes. There's a lot of more important things in life to worry about than a game of snooker. "For me, it's a big part of my life, but I've got to try and figure out what my future looks like, whether it's playing or not. I'll be moving away to the Middle East but we'll see how it goes. I might be back in six months, who knows?" He insisted his cue issues weren't necessarily to blame for his Crucible struggles, adding: 'I don't even know if it was the cue, the ferrule or me. There were three things. I just don't even know where the white ball's going. I'm at a loss, to be honest with you. 'I don't even know what to say. Sometimes you've got to try something different, you know? It didn't feel great before so I tried to go back to the old brass ferrule.'
