Air India Plane Crash: Bodies of 260 victims handed over to family members, says Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent Rakesh Joshi
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 30 (ANI): The bodies of 260 people who died in the Air India-171 plane crash have been handed over to their family members, Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital, Rakesh Joshi said on Monday.
254 victims of the crash were identified through DNA matching, while six were identified through facial recognition.
Rakesh Joshi told ANI, 'I can say that a total of 254 DNA matches were done, all identified and handed over. 6 were identified through facial recognition, and they were also handed over. So, a total of 260 bodies were identified and handed over to their family members.'
He added that out of the 260 bodies handed over, 241 were passengers while 19 were non-passengers.
'241 were passengers and 19 were non-passengers. Out of these 241 passengers, 181 were Indians, 52 were Britishers, seven were Portuguese, and one was Canadian,' Medical Superintendent Joshi said.
Rakesh Joshi further said that it was a challenging task, but the health department and police worked together to complete it within 13 days.
'It was a very difficult task and I won't say I managed it. It was a great teamwork. We are supported and guided by our seniors and administrators. Not only the health department but also the police department, the corporation, everybody worked. All the departments collectively worked for this challenging situation or disaster. Ultimately, everything was done within 13 days,' he said.
On June 12, a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex of BJ Medical College, Gujarat's Ahmedabad, shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The tragedy claimed 241 lives out of 242 onboard, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is leading the investigation into the crash and working intensively on analysing data retrieved from the black boxes of Air India Flight AI-171, in their lab in New Delhi. (ANI)

MP CM Mohan Yadav inaugurates water conservation works worth over Rs 1,518 crore in Khandwa
Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 30 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav participated in the closing ceremony of Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan held in Khandwa district on Monday and laid the foundation stone and inaugurated water conservation works worth over Rs 1,518 crore in the programme. Speaking on the occasion, CM Yadav announced that Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan will continue in a new form. The 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign has been launched across the state. From June 30 to August 15, the plantation will be done on government land, followed by private land from August 15 to September 15. He further said that a new scheme has been launched to promote greenery and horticulture under which 30,000 women will receive Rs 3 lakh each to develop orchards on one acre of land. The grant, given in three annual installments, will cover plantation, fencing, irrigation, and related works. In three years, 30,000 acres of land will be transformed with greenery and it will cost Rs 900 crore to the state. The CM also inaugurated 57,207 works in panchayats under the Panchayat and Rural Development Department worth Rs 578 crore, and 888 water conservation structures across the state under the Watershed Development Component. Additionally, he dedicated four irrigation projects, including the Jawar Micro Irrigation Project in Khandwa, and 74 renovated water structures. CM Yadav, stating regarding the major outcomes of the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan, informed that 140 major drains flowing into 57 rivers were identified, 91 watershed projects developed across 36 districts, 9,000 water structures constructed for irrigation, Four irrigation projects launched in Khandwa, Maximum temperature in Nimar region dropped by 4C due to various interventions and Irrigation area in the state to increase from 55 lakh hectares to 100 lakh hectares in the coming years. CM Dr. Yadav also informed that Bundelkhand will be benefited from the Ken-Betwa Link, Malwa-Chambal from the PKC Project, and Nimar from the Tapi Mega Recharge Project. He added that Madhya Pradesh is the Birth-Place of rivers, with about 300 rivers originating here, enriching neighboring states. Rivers like Narmada, Chambal, Sone, and Tapti sustain other rivers and even seas. Under the Abhiyan, ghats were renovated, especially along the sacred Narmada, the only river that is circumambulated. The advisory was issued on World Social Media Day as part of a broader awareness campaign highlighting the growing influence of social media. Earlier last week, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) achieved a significant milestone in the ongoing Phase 4 expansion by completing a major underground tunnelling task between Kishangarh and Vasant Kunj stations on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor of the Golden Line. The breakthrough was achieved when a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) completed its journey this morning at Vasant Kunj Metro Station, having constructed a 1,550-metre-long tunnel using a 91-metre-long TBM. The DMRC took to social media to announce this development and posted, 'DMRC Completes another Major Tunnelling Milestone on Phase 4 Golden Line; Breakthrough at Vasant Kunj Metro Station. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today achieved a major construction milestone in Phase 4 with the completion of an underground tunnel between Kishangarh and Vasant Kunj Station on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor.' According to the DMRC, this new tunnel has been constructed at an average depth of approximately 22.86 meters (minimum depth 15.48 meters and maximum depth 30.25 meters). About 1105 rings have been installed in the tunnel, with an inner diameter of 5.8 meters. The tunnel has been constructed using the proven EPBM (Earth Pressure Balancing Method) technology, featuring a concrete lining composed of precast tunnel rings. These tunnel rings were cast at a fully mechanised casting yard set up at Mundka. The concrete segments were cured with a steam curing system to achieve early strength. As part of the Phase 4 work approved so far, 40.109 kilometres of underground lines are being constructed. The Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor has underground sections totalling 19.343 kilometres. Indian Navy's INS Tabar rescues Panamanian tanker MT Yi Cheng 6 in Gulf of Oman
New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): In a swift and decisive operation, the Indian Navy's stealth frigate INS Tabar responded to a distress call from the Panamanian-flagged tanker MT Yi Cheng 6 in the Gulf of Oman on June 29. The vessel, carrying 14 Indian crew members and transiting from Kandla, India, to Shinas, Oman, reported a major fire in its engine room, resulting in a complete power failure. In a post on X, the Indian Navy spokesperson said, 'Indian Navy's stealth frigate INS Tabar, mission deployed in the Gulf of Oman, responded to a distress call from Pulau-flagged MT Yi Cheng 6, on 29 June. The vessel with 14 crew members of Indian origin, transiting from Kandla, India, to Shinas, Oman, experienced a major fire in the engine room and total power failure onboard.' 'The firefighting team and equipment from INS Tabar were transferred onboard by the ship's boat and helicopter. 13 Indian naval personnel and 05 crew members of the stricken tanker are currently involved in firefighting operations, with the intensity of fire onboard reduced drastically,' the post further reads. Earlier on June 14, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in collaboration with the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, achieved a significant milestone in the firefighting and salvage operation of the Singaporean container vessel MV Wan Hai 503. The distressed vessel, facing critical challenges, was successfully handed over to the ocean-going tug Offshore Warrior on June 13, marking a coordinated multi-agency effort to ensure maritime safety.
