McShane began his near two-decade playing career with the Red Devils before spells with Hull, West Brom and Reading.
And he teams up with former United goalkeeper Lee Grant at the John Smith's Stadium.
The Terriers appointed Grant - a former assistant at Ipswich - last month after a lengthy managerial search.
Huddersfield sacked Michael Duff in March with the club seventh in League One.

But Town lost 10 of their last 12 league games, eventually finishing 14 points outside the playoffs.
McShane has now joined Grant's backroom staff in West Yorkshire.
The 39-year-old teams up with Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, a former youth coach at Liverpool.

Jonathan Robinson, Steven Gerrard's No. 2 at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, also joins the League One setup.
Grant has already been backed by wealthy American owner Kevin Nagle in the transfer market.

Huddersfield have so far brought in highly-rated Joe Low from Wycombe, along with Sean Roughan, Marcus Harness and Ryan Ledson.
Grant told the club website: "I am thrilled to welcome Marc, Paul, and Jonathan to Huddersfield Town – three exceptional professionals who join us as Assistant Coaches.
"Their diverse backgrounds, dedication, and commitment to excellence will be invaluable to us as we continue to grow and build something special at this club.
"Each brings a unique outlook and energy that aligns with our values and future aspirations."
Huddersfield have suffered an alarming slide after dropping out of the Premier League in 2018.
Carlos Corberan almost led the club back to the Prem in 2022 through the playoffs.
But the club fought relegation from the Championship for multiple seasons before dropping to League One in 2024.
They had been expected to mount a strong push for promotion last term.
Duff led his side on an impressive 16-game unbeaten run midway through the campaign.
But the Terriers lacked bite where it mattered, with their 58 goals the lowest of any team in the top half.

Reported Celtic transfer target Evan Ferguson has been hailed as a 'top player' who is in dire need of regular football after stagnating at Brighton and Hove Albion. Ferguson, 20, broke on to the Brighton scene under Graham Potter as a teenager, but has fallen out of the first-team picture under current head coach Fabian Hurzeler and spent the second half of last season on loan West Ham. Reported Celtic transfer target Evan Ferguson has struggled for regular first-team football recently. | Getty Images Celtic were loosely linked with Ferguson in January and reports have resurfaced that the striker is back on Parkhead manager Brendan Rodgers' radar, with the Scottish Premiership champions keen to bolster their forward line. Ferguson, who is a international teammate of current Celtic No 9 Adam Idah, is under contract until the summer of 2029 and former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given believes the hitman is ready to 'burst on to the scene', explaining that his level of finishing has been hailed by those around him. 'Better not tell Adam that!' Given, who was promoting next month's Celtic v Newcastle friendly, said when the Ferguson speculation to Celtic was put to him,' 'I think Evan just needs to find a home, if I'm being honest. Be it here or somewhere else. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Ferguson needs confidence 'I think he needs someone to say 'You're my player.' He went to West Ham for Graham Potter and you thought that was the perfect fit because Graham had him at Brighton. But then he didn't play so much at West Ham either. 'I just think he needs to go, be it a loan for a season or some club buys him, and you build the team around him. I think he's a top player, I really do. I did some Malaysian TV recently with Bobby Zamora and he goes into Brighton once a week and coaches the strikers. Bobby said Evan was the best finisher at the club. 'Maybe because he burst onto the scene that everyone's been expecting so much so soon. But again with young players you need to have a bit of time. I just feel he's ready now to burst onto the scene for a full season with somebody. For us with Ireland it would be great too. 'I don't know the finances would be to buy him, but if you said for a loan for the season it would be perfect. But I'm not the financial power at Celtic or Newcastle, so I don't know!' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Regardless of what happens with Ferguson, Given has been impressed by another Irishman at Celtic in Idah, who has just completed his first full season at Parkhead following a £9m transfer from Norwich City. 'I think he scored 20 goals. didn't he?' continued Given. 'Again, first season as a regular starter, I think it's been a good campaign for him. But he'll want to improve on that and get more goals next season. I don't think 20's a bad return, if I'm being brutally honest. 'He'll also want to add to his international goals too. Scales has come out of the team in recent weeks, I think. Adam and Scalesy are well regarded in the international set up. 'Adam's competing with Evan Ferguson and Troy Parrott and players like that. Evan Ferguson not that long ago was being talked about as a £100 million player and Adam started on Friday night against Senegal. So, that's where he's regarded in the Irish set up, by the manager especially. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Adam Idah has completed his first full season as a Celtic player. | Getty Images 'He was the first choice on Friday night while Ferguson started against Luxembourg. Adam's very much competing for that number nine jersey. He's a good player while with Brendan - who is a brilliant manager and coach- he's in the right environment. 'Celtic's a big club and I think Brendan will keep improving him as a player. I think he's in the perfect position.' Given also hopes that another Irish striker in Johnny Kenny can continue his first-team exposure. The 22-year-old made his debut last season after starring for Shamrock Rovers on loan in the Conference League and netted his first goal for Celtic last month against Aberdeen. 'He was on loan at Shamrock and did well,' added Given. 'I know obviously with Dermot there's a connection with Celtic and Shamrock. He's come back here and played a couple of games off the bench. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'You'd need to ask Brendan for his plans for Johnny for the season. Does he see him part of the plans or him going back out on loan? Kenny's future is key 'Does Brendan think he's ready? I don't see enough of him to know for sure. But again from an Ireland perspective, we'd really like to see more of him for Celtic. 'When you get a flavour of first team football you just want more and more. Even at Shamrock Rovers, the League of Ireland's flying at the minute. Damien Duff has added a huge problem to the league as well. 'The stadiums are sold out now. When you go to play in front of crowds it gives you such a lift. I remember for myself back in the day, I went to Swindon as a kid and I loved playing in front of decent crowds. It doesn't matter how big the crowd is, that edge is there.

Tottenham to name Thomas Frank as head coach after agreeing deal with Brentford

Tottenham Hotspur have finally struck an agreement with Brentford to make Thomas Frank the clubs next head coach, it is understood. Spurs quickly set their sights on Frank after Postecoglou was sacked last week – only 16 days after he secured Europa League success – and made an official approach to Brentford on Monday. Discussions between Tottenham and Brentford initially centred on Frank's current terms at the west London club, which were set to run until the summer of 2027 and contained a release clause reportedly in the region of £10million. Further talks were required over which backroom staff Frank would take to Spurs but, after days of negotiations, a deal was struck with Brentford on Thursday, it is understood. Highly-rated Brentford first-team coach Justin Cochrane is set to follow Frank to Tottenham and in the process return to the club where he started his coaching journey. London-born Cochrane has been part of Frank's backroom staff since 2022, after he initially developed as a coach in Spurs' youth-team before a spell at Manchester United. Cochrane, 43, has earned a reputation as one of the brightest coaches in England and earlier this year joined Thomas Tuchel's coaching staff for the national team alongside his role at Brentford under Frank. Frank would take over a Spurs side which won a trophy for the first time since 2008 with victory in the Europa League final last month but finished 17th in the Premier League. The ex-Brondby boss has transformed Brentford during his seven-year spell in charge, with promotion from the Championship in 2021 followed by him establishing the club as a Premier League regular despite a modest budget. Christian Eriksen, who played under Frank at Brentford and starred during a seven-year spell at Spurs, backed his compatriot to be a success at his former club. 'I think he is the right coach for Tottenham,' Eriksen told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. 'I have had Thomas at various times and I think he is the perfect match for Tottenham, and it would be great if Thomas takes on that challenge. 'His personality, his way of playing and his way of being. And the club considering where they were last season – they won a trophy of course – but they are in the process of building something up, and I am sure that Thomas is a good man to bring in.'

Blue Bolt strike sees Keane waste no time in celebrating Juddmonte position

The Irishman left little to chance with a positive ride and having asked his mount to quicken and put the race to bed passing the two-furlong pole, Blue Bolt soon put distance between his rivals. Although seeing her advantage shortened by Roger Varian' Majaz in the closing stages, Blue Bolt was still a length and a quarter clear at the winning post to help rubber stamp Keane's position as first choice to one of the leading ownership operations in racing. His first ride and it's a first winner for Colin Keane in the @JuddmonteFarms silks since his appointment! Blue Bolt looks to be a filly going places as she doubles up with a taking performance at @NewburyRacing for @AndrewBalding2! — At The Races (@AtTheRaces) June 12, 2025 Keane said: 'It's the perfect start and she is a nice filly who was a good winner the last day and seems to have stepped forward again. 'She's very uncomplicated, she just gallops on and is a nice filly. It felt very easy for her in the first half of the race and I was trying to take her back a little bit and she just got a bit lonely once she had quickened away from them. But I would say she is a filly with a nice future. 'I'm very privileged to be asked to wear these colours and they are iconic in racing. I have grown up looking at them and their farm is only up the road so I'm in a very privileged position.' Although this was Keane's first ride on a member of the Juddmonte string in an official capacity, he has twice tasted Classic honours in their silks when winning the Irish 2,000 Guineas with both Siskin in 2020 and John and Thady Gosden's Field Of Gold only last month. Field of Gold dazzled in the Irish 2,000 Guineas (Niall Carson/PA) It is the latter that could prove Keane's trump card at Royal Ascot next week and speaking to Sky Sports Racing he added: 'He was very good on the day (in the Irish Guineas) and he felt like a proper horse. I don't think I've ridden one as good as him to be honest. 'Only time will tell, but I think a fast pace would help him and bring him along further (in the St James's Palace) and hopefully he's then good enough to pick them off.' Earlier on the card George Boughey's 8-11 favourite Moonfall opened his account at the third attempt when a two-length winner of the first division of the Local IQ EBF Novice Stakes, while Charlie Appleby's heavy odds-on favourite Time To Turn was turned over in the second division by Clive Cox's 28-1 outsider A Bit Of Spirit.
