GREEK side Aris have been handed an extension by Rangers to try and reach an agreement to sign Ecuadorian flop Jose Cifuentes permanently.
The 26-year-old made 29 league appearances for Aris during the season and became one of their key players as he helped them qualify for Europe.

The Thessaloniki club originally had until the end of May to turn the loan move into a permanent one, with a £3 million fee as part of the original loan deal.
However, they have indicated to Rangers they want to renegotiate a deal to get the Ibrox side to lower their demands for Cifuentes to £2 million.
And reports in Greece have stated Rangers have now given Aris until June 15 to reach an agreement exclusively with them, or the deal is off.
They are also considering trying to persuade Rangers to extend his loan deal for another season if they cannot conclude a permanent transfer.
Cifuentes indicated last month he would be keen to stay in Greece rather than return to Rangers, where he made just six league starts.
He said: "I believe I have improved individually as the season progressed, but this is the result of teamwork, under the guidance of the manager.
"I am happy here and we will see what the future brings."
Cifuentes was signed by Rangers two years ago from Los Angeles FC in a £1.2 million deal and he still has two years left of his contract.
A major rebuild is set to get underway at Ibrox with the new manager being given a £20million transfer kitty this summer.
Three first-team players have already left the club including Ianis Hagi, Leon Balogun and Tom Lawrence.

Vaclav Cerny returned to his parent club Wolfsburg and could be set for a move to Trabzonspor in a £9million deal.
Rafael Fernandes, who had an unsuccessful time at Ibrox with injury, has gone back to French side Lille.
Other players who could also be set for the Ibrox exit are Ridvan Yilmaz who has reportedly reached an agreement to re-join Besiktas.
Defender Robin Propper looks also on his way out of Glasgow returning to Holland to FC Twente.

Man Utd appoint new director of football as Ratcliffe oversees major shake-up
The hierarchy at Manchester United has gone through multiple changes since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner and took control of football operations 18 months ago Manchester United have appointed Jason Wilcox as their new sporting director after it emerged that Sir Dave Brailsford would be stepping back from his duties. The Red Devils had been without a sporting director since announcing the shock departure of Dan Ashworth in November. United had spent half a year chasing the ex-Newcastle chief's signature before co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe axed him after just five months, citing a lack of 'chemistry' and costing the club, who've made hundreds of staff redundant this year, a huge £4million in compensation. Wilcox, 53, was poached from Southampton and arrived as technical director two months before Ashworth. But now the former Manchester City academy head has been give a new position, one with increased seniority, after impressing Ratcliffe and senior Old Trafford figures, the Athletic report. Wilcox's promotion coincides with Brailsford's decision to step back. The ex-British cycling chief is the director of sport for INEOS, Ratcliffe's petrochemical conglomerate. Brailsford has been a consistent presence since Ratcliffe purchased his initial stake in the club which has now increased to 28.94 per cent. It's one of several changes to United's hierarchy during Ratcliffe's 18-month tenure. In April, INEOS chief Jean-Claude Blanc stepped down from his position as a director of the club. A regular at matches home and away, Brailsford was involved in the appointments of chief executive Omar Berrada and head coach Ruben Amorim. The 61-year-old carried out an audit of United's football operations and was across the £50m refurbishment of their training ground, Carrington. Brailsford even stepped down as INEOS Grenadiers' team principal to focus on the footballing project. But he'd become less visible in recent weeks, choosing to spend more time in Monaco after becoming a father last year, and will have less of a presence going forward. Brailsford will remain on United's football club board alongside legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson and former chief executive David Gill. Ratcliffe reportedly wants him to mentor cyclist Geraint Thomas, who's expected to be given a senior management position within the Grenadiers once he retires as a rider at the end of this season. Brailsford can also focus on INEOS' other sporting ventures. He was once influential at French side Nice but United's failure to qualify for European football means that he can work closely with them again. UEFA's ownership rules prevented INEOS from being as hands-on as Nice qualified for the Champions League. Will INEOS bring success back to Manchester United? Give us your prediction in the comments section. Wilcox, meanwhile, will hope to enhance his growing reputation at Old Trafford. "Jason, for me, is a guy at the coal face," Ratcliffe told the Times earlier this year. "He ran the academy at Manchester City. Txiki Begiristain, I know, thought Jason had the best eyes in the club. "Jason knows what'S working, what'S not working in terms of how Ruben's playing, his system, which players he's picking, which players we are going to buy in the future. And Jason's got views on all of those things. And when I listen to Jason speak, I get what he'S saying." What shall we do with the losers? Is captivity too harsh?
She duly printed one out for the chap. Then in a patronising, emollient voice – reminiscent of a nurse in a starched uniform administering an injection to a nervous blood donor – the conductor trilled: 'There we are! All done.' Says our correspondent: 'For a moment I thought she was going to ask the bloke if he wanted a nice cuppa and a biscuit, while he recovered from his terrible ordeal.' Champs & chumps Scottish football is famous for the unbalanced nature of its contests. The superstars of Rangers and Celtic hog the goals and glory while players from rival teams are content to saunter round the pitch, occasionally accidentally colliding with the ball, then politely kicking it back to the Old Firm chaps. Other European teams are obviously jealous of this style of football, and are now attempting to emulate it. Which explains the recent Champions League final. Reader Tom Bain read a report of the match in one newspaper which described the victory as: Intern Milan 0 PSG 5. Says Tom: 'I thought that was a bit harsh for a punishment, on top of such a severe loss.' Mind your language Our native tongue is a difficult lingo to learn, with its many grammatical contradictions, weird spellings and bizarre sounding words. However, plucky reader Craig Macauley rushes to its defence, and says: 'English can be understood through tough thorough thought, though.' Gordon Casely recently returned from Iceland, and heartily approves of this local number plate, which leaves no room for doubt as to the owner's profession… (Image: Contributed) Hard to swallow A question for the medical practitioners amongst our readership. (Though our serial-killer readers will surely be able to answer this puzzler in an equally definitive manner.) Russ Lewis asks: 'If poison expires, is it more poisonous or is it no longer poisonous?' You bet British summertime is here, which inevitably means it's raining. A lot. Andrew Farren met a pal in Edinburgh city centre on a day when the sky was ominous with grey clouds. The pal was wearing a T-shirt with no jacket. This scantily-garbed fellow explained that in years gone by he enjoyed a flutter on the horses. 'Now I gamble on the weather,' he added. A moment later the rain thundered down, soaking the poor bloke. 'Yup,' he said, with a resigned nod of the head. 'Same as the horses… I was a loser back then, too.'
