Urbandale business helps community safely recycle electronics
URBANDALE, Iowa — An Urbandale recycling center company is helping the community safely unload electronics during spring cleanup events.
Electronic Asset Security, which opened three years ago, is a leader in IT Asset Disposition (ITAD). ITAD is the process of securely and sustainably managing IT assets that are no longer in use through recycling, refurbishment, and secure disposal.
The company hosts a clean-out event every spring and fall in Urbandale, as well as other spring events in Waukee, Johnston, and during the four Des Moines Mega Scrubs.
On Saturday, the crew hosted its Urbandale cleanup, where hundreds used the company's services.

'We are expecting probably upwards of 800 to 1,000 cars; I know last year we did about 47,000 pounds and we are anticipating over that this year too,' said Paul Schwegler, Vice President of Electronic Asset Security. 'More cars, more people. We brought out extra staff to try to get through the backlog but it's pretty much like it was last year, maybe a little cooler thankfully.'
The business takes in electronics and ensures they are recycled properly, and for electronics in need of it, ensures information is properly protected and cleared.
'The way we say it, it's pretty much anything that's an electronic that's not an appliance. So, no refrigerators, or stoves, or microwaves, but anything that you would buy at Best Buy that's not in the appliance section,' said Schwegler.
Electronic Asset Security will assist during the City of Des Moines MEGA SCRUB Event on April 19th, located in the Merle Hay Mall north lot from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Electronic Asset Security also takes in drop-offs year-round at their center located at 4331 112th Street in Urbandale.

Markets start to gear up for summer drama
Markets start to gear up for summer drama originally appeared on TheStreet. Investors have a problem to work through: How to decide how and when to invest or sell — and what all that entails. Stocks had a good week, with the Standard & Poor's 500 Index rising 1.5% and closing above 6,000 for the first time since Feb. 21. Friday's big rally had some market watchers declare 6,500 on the index a real possibility. 💵💰💰💵 The other big averages rose at least 1.2% on the week. The small-cap Russell 2000 Index jumped 2.9%. There were lots of winners like: On Semiconductor () , up 19.4%. Quantum Computing () , up 21%. Robinhood Markets () , up 13.2%. Appliance/electronics retailer Best Buy () , up 10.2%. And one clear non-winner: Tesla () , down more than 14.8% in the wake of CEO Elon Musk's flame-throwing departure from the White House. An important downside: Bond yields moved up. The 10-year Treasury finished Frida with a 4.512% yield. Mortgage rates adjusted nearly to 7%. "I truly find it remarkable that interest rates (the foundation of all discounted dividend/cash flow models) are climbing so rapidly, yet equities are unconcerned," Doug Kass wrote in his Daily Diary on the Street week ahead offers some important earnings reports, but if you you're thinking of putting money to work, take a breath. This may also be a week in which what happens outside the stock and bond markets may prove more important that what happens. The events start with the meeting scheduled Monday in London between trade representatives from the United States and China to get the tariff negotiations moving. There is an August deadline get to a deal done, and President Donald Trump, not known for patience, may begin to get is a closer deadline: July 9 for all the other trade deals to get done, and one isn't hearing much on that front, either. Markets will start getting nervous over these problems, and it will be tricky then because second-quarter earnings reports will start to come out. In addition, Apple () is holding its World Wide Developer Conference this week. News may be committed at the event. Delta Air Lines () and PepsiCo () are expected to report the week of July 7. JPMorgan Chase () says it will report on July 15. Another factor to consider: an expected drop off in foreign travel to the United States. A December estimate for an 8.7% increase in foreign visitors to the U.S. in 2025 has been revised to an 8,7% decline, Bloomberg News reported. Marriott () has already trimmed its guidance for 2025 because of expected softness in U.S. and Canadian business. So far, 2025 has been a dramatic, nay wild, year for stocks. But a bad year? Not really or yet. The S&P 500 is up 2% on the year, with eight of 11 sectors showing gains. The Nasdaq is up 1.1%. The Nasdaq-100 Index, dominated by big tech stocks, is up 3.6%. Most of the gains have come since the market bottom in April. Industrials are leading the S&P 500 with a 9.7% gain this year, led by Howmet Aerospace () , which makes components for jet engines, GE Aerospace () , which makes aircraft engines, and GE Vernova () , which concentrates on power equipment. The weakest sector is Consumer Discretionary, down 6.8%. The group includes Tesla, Caesar Entertainment () and homebuilders Lennar () and D.R. Horton () . Information technology, including Microsoft () , Apple, Nvidia () and Broadcom () , is up 1.1%. More Retail Stocks: Halloween retailer sounds warning consumers need to hear Target expands same-day delivery to 100s of retailers Walmart makes surprise cuts as it looks at tariff price hikes Oracle () has a market capitalization of nearly $500 billion. The shares are up 7.3% this year but up 42% from the April post-tariff announcement low. The earnings estimate is $1.64 a share, up slightly from a year ago's $1.63. The revenue estimate is $15.6 billion, up 9% from a year ago. Adobe () is best known for tools to design and produce content. Anyone who has sent a .pdf file to any where has probably used Adobe software. The earnings estimate is $4.97 a share, up 11% from a year. Revenue is estimated at $5.8 billion, up 9.3%. Adobe shares are down 6.2% this year. Mostly that is because valuation is more appropriate. The shares had been at 30 times earnings. That's down to 20. Smucker () , the Ohio maker of jams, peanut butter (Adams) bought Hostess Brands, makers of no less than Hostess Twinkies, for $4.6 billion. Digesting the acquisition has been hard. The sweet snacks business faces huge headwinds in the demand for healthier snacks. (Can you say Wegovy and Mounjaro?) Smucker shares are up just 0.7% this year. The company took a big write-down in the first quarter. This quarter's report is all about showing progress on the problem. The earnings estimate is $2.25 a share, down from $2.66 a year ago. The revenue forecast is $2.19 billion, down slightly from last year's $2.21 billion. Gamestop () is the world's largest video game, consumer electronics, and gaming merchandise retailer. The revenue estimate is $796.8 million, down 9.6% from a year ago. Earnings may come in a 4 cents a share. Casey's General Stores, () , Iowa-based operator of convenience stores in the Midwest and South. After Monday's close. Core & Main () , distributor of water, sewer and fire-protection products. Before Tuesday's open. Online pet-supply retailer Chewy () . Before Wednesday's start to gear up for summer drama first appeared on TheStreet on Jun 8, 2025 This story was originally reported by TheStreet on Jun 8, 2025, where it first appeared.

I just played Street Fighter 6 on Switch 2 — and I can't believe how good it is
Mario Kart World is a fantastic Nintendo Switch 2 game, but the game I'll be playing most on the console is Street Fighter 6. Yes, I've already spent 206 hours on the PS5 edition, but I've been having a blast playing it on Nintendo's latest console/handheld hybrid. Why? Because of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller. That might come as a surprise if you're a fighting game fanatic like me. Hell, writing this is weird for me too! I still prefer using the best fight sticks, but the updated Switch 2 Pro controller isn't bad for playing fighting games. Sure, it doesn't have a six-button layout like the Hori Wireless Fighting Commander Octa Pro, but the Switch 2 Pro controller gets the job done. If you're hesitant about playing Street Fighter 6 on Switch 2, don't be. Not only does it look and perform phenomenally, but it controls like a dream, especially with a Switch 2 Pro controller. I'll explain why. The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is practically guaranteed to be the most in-demand Switch 2 accessory, and it packs a suitable upgrade over its predecessor adding a headphone jack, the new "C" button, and customizable back buttons. Additional retailers: Best Buy | GameStop Before moving on, let me break down what Street Fighter 6 on Switch 2 has to offer. Out of the box, you get all of the characters, stages and balance updates released for seasons 1 and 2. You'll have to pay for the inevitable season 3 (which should arrive this summer), but getting seasons 1 and 2 at no extra charge is a nice deal. Content-wise, you'll have access to everything in the game's three core modes: World Tour, Battle Hub, and Fighting Ground. There's also a pair of Switch 2-exclusive offline modes called Gyro Battle and Calorie Contest. The former has you using the Joy-Con's gyro controls to perform attacks, while the latter has you furiously shaking the Joy-Con to burn in-game calories to get a high score. While I appreciate that the Switch 2 has two exclusive modes, I likely won't indulge in them since they seem like too much work. But that's fine since there's so much other content to engage with. Content I can use the Pro controller with! The Switch 2 Pro controller isn't a huge upgrade from the original Switch 1 model, but its minor adjustments make for a better overall peripheral. The most notable update comes in the form of two programmable back buttons, but the slightly slimmer design and matte-like texture are just as nice. Nintendo also says the analog sticks are less likely to suffer from stick drift. The Pro controller doesn't have an ideal button layout for Street Fighter 6 since the controller doesn't have six face buttons. However, since the four face buttons are so large, pressing them is very easy, even when you have to press two simultaneously. The shoulder buttons are simple to reach and also feel nice to press. Overall, the buttons are extremely responsive. I usually struggle with cross-shaped D-pads like the one on the Switch 2 controller, but I had little trouble performing motion inputs for special and super moves during my playtime. The D-pad isn't that large, which allows me to easily cover it with the joint of my thumb. I sometimes misperform inputs, but I'm sure my accuracy will improve as I become more accustomed to this D-pad. The controller is relatively light but still has enough weight to prevent it from feeling cheap. The aforementioned texture feels good against my palms and helps me maintain a solid grip. It's just a well-built peripheral that's a joy to use for hours on end, even for fighting games. Street Fighter 6 1-2 Fighters Edition will features 26 characters and 20 stages. You'll fight your way to the top with all new content and game modes exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 like Local Wireless One on One and Avatar retailers: GameStop Dedicated fight pads and fight sticks are still best for playing fighting games like Street Fighter 6. However, it might be a while before officially licensed Switch 2 fighting game controllers start arriving. You might have luck pairing a Switch 1 fight stick/pad to the new console, but compatibility isn't guaranteed. Thankfully, the Switch 2 Pro controller is excellent for playing fighting games on Nintendo's new system. I expected to love the Switch 2 Pro controller since I'm a fan of the previous model. What I didn't foresee is how well the new controller would work with Street Fighter 6. Again, I've sunk hundreds of hours into Capcom's fighter, but I'm down to spend even more time beating the snot out of opponents just to continue using the Pro controller. It really is a fantastic peripheral for fighting games on Switch 2.
